After a total of 12 months of testing, these are the best rust inhibitors for your motorcycle. Properly clean your bike and prep it for winter and it’ll survive the salt that can lead to corrosion and rust damage. Products like ACF-50, XCP Rust Blocker, Scottoiler FS 365 and TechCote ACS TC200 are popular among bikers when it comes to keeping rust at bay, but how good are they really? And once you’ve chosen one, what’s the best way to apply them?

A bit late but I wanted to say a massive thank you. I had been using 2 of the brands which didn't even rank. And as for "why not on brake discs" a friend of ours 20 years ago sprayed a moisture repellent all over everything (including his discs) and when he had to touch his brakes, he did a Tom cruise and "flew right by" and crashed, he was OK but not the bike. Anyway as I said a big thanks for the video, subbed 👍

I think it's best (whatever product you choose) to spray on a rag/cloth and wipe on rather than spray on, and wipe off excess, and more so just to spray on and leave of course. My bike is outside day and night all year, what I like to do is reapply on exposed metal surfaces after every wash to be sure it's as well protected as possible, a standard spray can of ACF-50 lasts much longer this way in my experience.
@newmillennial4248

How do you protect the brake disc carriers? Mine are starting to rust.
@HalfdeadRider
@HalfdeadRider 2 жыл бұрын
@@newmillennial4248 If you just want to protect with a product such as ACF-50, take the carrier off the bike, clean and dry it and wipe all over with a rag sprayed with the product of choice, none will get on your disc or pads. If the rust is more than new surface rust you'll need to sand it or get it blasted off, ACF-50 is good at removing new surface rust. Sometimes these parts are protected by paint, you could also repaint, or paint it anyway instead if you like, although you can still add ACF-50 occasionally for extra protection if you go that route.

If I may suggest something, its a very good thing to also talk about how some of these products "treat" rust after its already there. I had this on my GS's front axle bolt , and wheel weights. Scrubbed with a brass brush and applied ACF50 its went black and shiny, looks brand new and is protected. Applied it directly to my center stand that was also having rust issues and again the ACF50 blackened it out and seems to have neutralized the rust.. not sure if its permanent or if it will hold up after a thorough wash but it did seem to bring up those pieces back to a normal look. I'm not sure the other products advertise rust treatment as something they do but would be something to test and perhaps educate us as not everyone has a brand new shiny bike. Awesome content as always!

Brilliant . Very methodical. My plan on corrosion protection, and also for my protection , is to be a fair weather motorcyclist, and roll the bike back into my insulated and extremely water tight shed where I run a desiccant type dehumidifier . Yeah, let's not consider the electricity cost for running a desiccant type (not compressor type, they don't work in cold places) dehumidier ! I'm probably also going to use some XCP spray after watching this.

What would you suggest for preventing rust/oxidisation on things such as brake disc carriers etc? Ceramic coat perhaps?

I usually use Motul products and WD-40 to keep my bike looking nice. Instead of drying it with a machine, just take your bike for a short ride and the wind + engine heat will dry up the bike. Then let it cool down and use protective products on the desired parts.

how does it hold up to heated parts? Such as the exhaust and engine, I've had issues with rust on exhausts and got some XCP after tons of research but worried how heat affects it. ACF I believe (maybe was XCP) says stains might be visible after heat exposure

Epic measurement geekery. Many thanks for a very useful video. I love the real world, accessible approach to sorting out the best from the 'just ok' Can I propose Bilt Hamber ATOM-MAC corrosion inhibitor for the next test? Apparently its safe for use on brake disks at 1 to 2% and can be used during rinsing..

In the eighties we used to coat the bike in Waxoyl… a swine to get off after the winter but kept the worst of the salt off.

New to biking and have to store mine outside. Literally just bought a bottle of ACF50 from SBS as everyone was raving about it. Might go for XCP clear coat now 🤔

ACF does still work and it looks great, but in my tests it doesn't have the staying power of XCP. Keep using it, but I'd top it up every month. Cheers, John

Hi John, maybe you could include for your next test Wurth 'corrosion protection spray' as well, cheers!
