These are the best-selling video game franchises. Counting only video game sales, and not merchandise, license, or other means of revenue generation.
Nintendo's Mario, one of the most iconic games, tops the list. Pokemon might be the highest-grossing media franchise. However, its revenue mainly consists of its merchandise sales and not from video game sales. The oldest video game franchise on the list is " The Oregon Trail" which released its first game in 1971. Destiny is the newest franchise on the list, which was released in 2014.
