The Dolby Atmos settings were a big improvement for Arctis 9x's. Ramps up the volume a lot. This saved me some money for sure.

since you can switch between the two, It's whatever sounds the best for you, everyone is different, I like to keep it on the atmost settings, but some people like the dolby sounds from the astro settings, it's a matter of preference

are you able to use atmost at all, it should come with at least 6 months last I checked, sometimes 2 years. Personally, I never paid for it for any of the headsets I purchased in the past, you should be able to use it. I think most headset manufacture gives it to you for free.

You can mess with eq to fine tune it and lower explosion for grenades etc..., but it's all about how the game was shipped, if the developers didn't put that option in, it's kind of hard to isolate different items.

probably because DTS is open source and free, whereas atmos you might have to pay unless it comes with the headset . Otherwise it's a matter of preference in my opinion, I've been using ATMOS for a while, so I don't have any issues with it. On xbox you the option to use either one as far as I can tell on my end, I'd say if you have the option just try them and see which one you like better

if you select dolby atmos, it will be DOLBY atmos, but if you don't have atmos, you would choose windows sonic than the settings on on the accessories app would take over.

The dongle is not going to make any difference in my experience, but you can always try it. When it comes to clarity or sound quality, it's all about the software you use and the way you set things up, so save your money as far as the dongle, I actually have the xbox dongle that I use for my pc. if you set the headset up with dolby atmos or the software that comes with the headset and you don't like the sound, then you might need to invest in another headset to see if you're satisfied. But to be honest with you, I like this headset better than the $300 ASTRO and most of the other expensive headsets that I own do not provide anything better than this. It's possible you have a defective headset

@@spawn2052 I tried the chat settings in the Xbox x but didn't see anything that was specific to voice feedback. I called Microsoft help center and first they asked why would I want to hear my voice?? Apparently they have never heard a def person speak.. no offense to that, but it's hard to determine pitch, volume, and rhythm of your voice if you can't hear it. Plus after waiting for them to get back to me, they hung up lol I'll just return them. They were certified by Best buy as like new and working condition, but who knows, that's why I thought maybe I just got a bad pair.

yea, it's got a mic monitoring function. It's very low sometimes, make sure you have the latest update for the headset. Mine is turned off, but I know it exists it's just low sometimes.

it's true the mic monitoring is crap I ordered 3 diff sets of these on Amazon and they're all the same when on the highest setting. I think partly it's due to the mic being so short that it doesn't pic up your voice even with the newest update. it's a build flaw for sure that Microsoft probably realizes they F'd up. it's one of the most important features if u game at night with friends but don't want to wake up the household by yelling because you can't hear urself talk. sadly I am returning them for this reason alone I loved everything about them but I ordered the hyper x cloud flight (wireless)that cost 20$ more and the mic monitoring is insanely good. the eq isn't customizable like the xbox ones but they sound really good balanced out of the box. for anyone who was like me and wanted the mic monitoring to be flawless this headset is the way to go. you will not regret it.

The Settings I showed works fine for me and probably will for most people, nonetheless, It's one or the other, not both at once, and it's fair to assume not everyone will pay for Dolby Atmos after the free period is over, especially if they are satisfied with the accessories app version. Moreover, the EQ in the accessories APP is more generic and the bass can be overwhelming for some people that's one reason you would need to mess with it. All of that said however, if you have Dolby Atmos and set your xbox for Dolby Atmos, you should not worry about the accessories app version.

My point is that even if you leave the EQ in accessories completely flat, it is still a setting. When you then go and configure EQ in Dolby app, then the headset effectively has two EQ configurations - one in the accessories app, and one in Dolby. My question is, which EQ setting will the headset use?

as of a few weeks ago, I notice the same thing on mine, so, I believe they might have changed that aspect of it, but the main thing is as long as you can enable Dolby Atmos in the settings you're good to go. If you pay for it and you are concerned, you can also contact Microsoft customer service to make sure.

I haven't tried the beoplay portal but I have the Audeze Penrose and I guarantee you, even with Dolby atmos xbox headset doesn't even come close. Not that I was expecting it to because of the price difference, but just pointing it out because of your claim. The clarity gets a lot better with your settings but I still think the bass is meh, it's not controlled or deep and rumbling as i would like it but for the price I guess it's okay.

I have not tried the penrose, but I owned the beoplay, I can tell you as good as the beoplay is the xbox headset can compete for what it is being used for, which is gaming. Those high end headsets may provide many things, but if it's just for gaming the xbox is good enough for the price. I would tell anybody to save their money and get the xbox headset any day if you're only doing it for gaming.

You don't need to because Atmos is the better option. But, If you want to use the default sound, you can choose windows Sonic for headphones in Settings, then "General volume & Audio Output"

It should be automatiic, the way to check to see if it's active is when you open the ATMOS App if it lets you customize it, then it's active for wahtever time they give it these days, i'm not sure if it's the same for when I bought it. It used to show on the top right corner when you tab over to settings but I don't see it anymore, then again, I own the app, so that might be why. I think it might be free now, you just have to check if it's available to use. Hopefully this helps, and thanks for stopping by my friend!
