Best Sheep & Goat Electric Fence Gate

After many years of trials and usage, this is the electric fence gate that I think balances effectiveness and economics for small ruminants. Links below to the products used:

Do you have an underground feeder to keep the downstream section live when the gate is open?

Yes, there is a buried wire running through either conduit (best) or black plastic water pipe works as well.

Can you use a wooden dowel or stick instead of fibreglass?

Potentially, when wet wood doesn’t insulate very well.

could you use electric grey pvc conduit instead of fiberglass?

I don’t think the conduit would be rigid enough. The fiberglass 1 1/4” is pretty stout stuff.

How did you paint your posts? Aerosol can, brushed or sprayer?

I just brush them. I would set-up 15-20 at a time on saw-horses and then roll them over when they are dry and paint the other side. Make sure to use a Rustoleum enamel paint, the X/O version seems to work well. For large quantities you could build a tube out of PVC pipe to dip the whole post in. Might be a faster way to do it.
