for those of you who don't deal with electric fences, they aren't on "all the time". most here in aus "tick" every second, and if u are touching it during the tick, you get a boot. we used to have a lot of problems with long grass with gew on it shorting it out part way along, and everything after that point being dead. cows seem to sense when it goes off and decide to get out within 15 minutes sometimes.

i think the electric fence doesn't just keep the sheep from getting out, it also protects them from wild animals (and might also keep a wild animal from getting shot if it threatens the sheep) it's not cruelty, its protection

only tingles for a second. I work on a sheep farm and work aroung that electranet all the time.

to the animals the electric fence is the equivalent of a lovecraft monster: it stays there seemingly harmless, calm and with no discernible purpouse, but when touched, a misterious force beyond your understanding smashes you with more strength that any fang, claw or horn would do....

"...and some chargers..." Even a 5 mile rated charger will give you quite a jolt. Gotta remember those things are designed to keep extremely dumb animals that weigh in excess of a ton inside a fenced area. OR rather from leaning against a fence to rub their itch they can't scratch which pushes said fence over.

lol but at least they need a sheep dog or an electric fence to keep them in line, we human on the other hand keep each other in line. We are the prisoners the guards and the constructors of the prison itself. Let me ask you something too, do you think it's smarter to live with the land like cave man or to built sky scrapers and automatic weaponry?

@runningfromabear83545 жыл бұрын
My Grandparents farm had sheep with a fence like this along the front garden in Devon. When I was a little kid, I ignored my parents and went and grabbed the fence. I remember flying and then waking up on the grass with my heart racing. After that, I would walk along the fence, fingers close enough to feel the tension of electricity, but careful not to touch it. By the time I was eleven or twelve, I would touch it. The current doesn't always stay at the same level, so it's a bit of Russian roulette except not deadly. I know other kids who lived in the village would touch the electric fences. Some because they were curious and others on dares. They typically didn't run them very high because if lamb or calf (cows or horses) touch it, you don't want it to seriously injure or kill them. After you weigh about 4 stone or more, it's similar to landing in a field of stingy nettles. Not fun but not terrible.
