I'd like to point out that not all JP Post Banks have this tablet translation option. If you're in the inaka, then good luck because you'll have to pull out your favorite translation app and every bit of Japanese that you can squeeze out of the folds of your brain. If not, then you better hope an employee speaks even a bit of English.

GOD I LOVE JAPAN. Watching you two ask for recomendations and then directions brought me back to my trip to Japan. It's amazing how businesses seem to always have a little booklet with their recomendations at the ready and a map ready to go as well. Lovely. They are just so helpful to tourists, and helpful in general, and so prepared. Also I was unaware of that fact about temple paths. I walked down the middle on my first trip to a temple...oops. Won't do again.

Being around cows actually did have an effect in protecting against smallpox because exposure to cowpox (which is very mild in humans but also very similar to cowpox) creates antibodies that can fight against smallpox! The first inoculations were done with cowpox scabs!

Is it odd that my fan service is the scenery and cultural stuff? Even with my visit to Tokyo I simply fell in love with the more culturally heavier areas hidden away in the HUGE city... I plan to visit a more cultural section of Japan on my next trip, nd I love arts and crafts... must make red cow! It seems like no matter where you go the country is SO, SO beautiful. I am off to Chris' video now... I need more fan service, and more travel ideas.

Some mistakes. Firstly, it is not a 神社 (Jinjya) it's an お寺 (Otera). A buddhist temple, not a Shinto shrine. Secondly, Tokugawa Ieyasu was not the first Shogun of Japan at all, he was number 37, though first of his own dynasty, the Tokugawa.

Can you use the services (asking for directions, etc.) from the Post Office even if you're not part of the self-guided tour? Also, do all Japanese post offices sell regional postcards?
@LukePeterHalpin
@LukePeterHalpin 5 жыл бұрын
You certainly can! I lived there for a year and they were a huge help, really patient and took extra care explaining things in English if your Japanese wasn't up to scratch. Directions, applications, sending money/parcels home, general local information - they do it all! Every JP Office I've been to will have a large selection of postcards with mascots and generic designs, but will also have their 'local speciality' on them too. For example, I was in Tokushima-ken and they had 'Sudachi-kun' (the local mascot) merchandise in the JP office. You will find for the most part, most Japanese people (Post Office included) will try their best to help if you ask. Nation is full of great people :)
