Hey Serena! In spite of the hype of newfangled stuff, I prefer my classic locks and keys. Just like computers, these automatic devices are unreliable and they are built to be disposable.

I couldn’t agree with you more but I have MS and it’s debilitating with my movement and strength and fine motor skills and unfortunately, sometimes doing a key is painfully difficult and I appreciate these things and so grateful she did a video on it but you are so right that they are built to be disposable.

I can see your point! The fact that both of my Lockly's gave me problems eventually (i.e. screen fading in the sunlight; fingerprint stopped working), is proof of your point. But the convenience of these door locks are fantastic. Especially with my shed, where locking it every time I were to come in and out, wouldn't be possible with keys, or keeping keys on me. But knowing that it will automatically lock is a security that I appreciate. And a fingerprint inside your home is so convenient. Lots of fingerprint logins are used on our phone now with banking sites and stuff. I think it's the future. I imagine there will be doors that auto-unlock with iris, too, so that we can come in with two handfuls of groceries! LOL

@@nanny8675309 Good point! For people that have fine motor skill conditions, these type of devices are helpful. Plus, if you get one with keys, that still is an option for people in the house who simply prefer to use a key.

Thank you for the review. While I am not yet ready to get rid of my keys, it is interesting to know what features these new locks have.

Once you try it, it's game changer! But of course, as you see, they DO come with issues. That is why I'll be curious how the Smonet holds up over time, based on how the Lockly performed over these 3-6 years I've had them!

I, unfortunately, do not remember the brand of smart lock on the door but the place I rented from for a few years had a lock that kept forgetting my print. I had a PIN code that was pretty reliable so I could still get in easily but one dead of winter night the batteries went dead without any warning and we had to figure out how easy it was to break into the house. I'm one of those people who goes to each door and window five times to make sure it’s locked so we were about ready to call a locksmith which would've cost a small fortune… but my roommate remembered he went through the dining room sliding glass door, on the second floor, to BBQ (while it was snowing) and he never locked that slider. So he somehow got the garage door to open enough to slide in and get a ladder and climb up and over the balcony to open the slider. We’d just gotten 4 feet of snow that day too to make things even more interesting. I called the company of the lock to figure out what was going on and the customer service guy was very apologetic and said that sometimes batteries will die without notice in extreme weather conditions (like having below 0°F) and offered to replace the lock with one that had a backup key. I’ve since moved from there but I’ll always remember that getting one with a key if all else fails is very important.

Thank you for the review because I’ve been wanting to buy one of these forever and I’m an avid review reader and they are so all over the board, but this was extremely helpful.

Glad you found it helpful! I was so disappointed that my Lockly's both had issues. I looked through the reviews on Home Depot's site and saw that other people did also notice the screen-fading issues and the fingerprint issue. So I am hoping that Smonet will last!

Everyone is still using lock and key. So won't have to deal with the problem you're having.

LOL, I think you'd be surprised how many people are starting to use smart locks! It kind of reminds me of "newer" cars that use a key fob and you just push to start. I still have an older model vehicle that doesn't have push-to-start technology. So when I rented a car, or had a loaner car from the dealership when I was having some work done, it is so hard to get used to. BUT.....I'm sure that if this was all I was driving, I would get used to the key fob push-to-start and would feel it were more advanced. But yeah, with vehicles, I'm still very old school!
