I am a physician and came across this. This is very good! I personally noticed that the Apple Watch didn’t used to seem to correlate well with my Polar strap. But now with Watch 7 it seems spot on. Rare anomalies, like sudden spikes that the Polar did not catch, suggesting error. Very useful! Allows me to leave the Watch on as my main driver. Would be nice to keep adding to the database with time. Especially as the newest Apple Watch, the Ultra, is now released. As it is so focused on sports, would be nice to compare to other high end triathlon and ultra watches. Also, I have always wondered about SaO2. There seems to be such a wide variation. In the day, from low to high 90’s. Makes no sense. I have always felt the the high SaO2 levels are likely accurate, and low values doubtful, what do you think? Great work!

Great summary. There was no such comparison of HR accuracy in the network, especially with the division into the exercise category. Now we are waiting for the same tests but in the GPS accuracy category. Recently, I tested the Apple Watch 7 and Huawei GT Runner and I am impressed with the high accuracy of AppleWatch GPS tracking e.g. a run in the forest. I noticed that the smartwatch from Huawei does not "collect" data as quickly in the field as the Apple Watch. By making quick turns during the run or turning perpendicularly, the AW7 does it really impressively precisely, where Huawei can "round" the perpendicular turn and cuts a few meters from the turn. In total, Huawei lost several hundred meters from the 5 km test on the route.

Fantastic review. A subscriber of mine suggested I transition to correlation of coefficiency calculations like you did here, versus the analytical approach I take. It will help add a different type of sports training assessment to the optical tests alongside yours as I do all analytical tests while doing CrossFit. Thanks again - great work
@Qbyte2482 жыл бұрын
What is you current method of calculating the accuracy? I think the standard deviation of the error (sqrt(MSE)) could be a better indicator than correlation since the correlation neglects scalings and biases.
@fitgearhunter2 жыл бұрын
@@Qbyte248 hey! Mine is rudimentary- first I cut off the bottom half of the HR numbers of the chest strap and the same number of beats per minute of the test device, then run percentage of accuracy of the two numbers - inverting the percentage when the test unit is above the chest strap (ie 108% = 92% accurate for that one point). And then average the numbers. I’ll have to look up how you do what you are talking about. Thanks!
@Qbyte2482 жыл бұрын
@@fitgearhunter Why do you cut off the bottom half of your measurements? Are there accuracy problems? You might want to look into en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geometric_standard_deviation (and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geometric_mean) which is better for relative values and at the end "invert" the percentage.

Having the best heart rate sensor is pretty essential to me because of that. I had a Fitbit, I can’t remember which one but I think it was one of the Senses, and I thought it was pretty accurate overall but I really, really hate how it forced you to pay a subscription just to get the full benefits when you already pay a hefty price for it. Do you have any info if Amazfit GTS 4 mini improved the accuracy? I ordered it specifically for such metrics: bpm, stress level, sleep quality

Hey. I have a Polar V2 for almost a year now. Ever since I was actually hoping you did a video on the new watches from Polar. Are we getting any of those videos? Btw I think you forgot the Polar sensor (H10) on test 2 :D

What a great study! It would be teally helpful If you made this kind of videos comparing other features!

Thank you for the excessive test; it is very informative! But...but...where is my favorite Garmin? The Venu SQ? Your Venu SQ test was sooo great :) I compared a lot of Garmins (old and new one) and still the SQ is the most accurate among them.
@TheQuantifiedScientist2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Good catch. Yes, the Venu Sq seems to have slipped through the cracks... I think I forgot to add a data loader for it when writing the code...

Thank you for all your work! I hope that Fitbit and Google can get close to the Apple Watch because I'm interested in buying the Google Pixel Watch, releasing this fall

Amazing video! But where does Garmin Venu SQ take it place? And you missed Fitbit Luxe in the outdoor cycling test

I have a cheap Spovan health band, and it is so far (after almost 2 years) very accurate reading my heart rate. U have tested with the cuff at home and in the doctor's office, and it's always accurate.

Thank you for the review. As you add to these tests, I am interested in: - a few other chest strap HR monitors such as from Garmin and Wahoo - Suunto watches - performance with other skin tones (maybe through KZbin channel collaboration) - running - Oura ring with the workout HR update. For these original tests, why do you think the Oura rings performed poorly for indoor cycling and much better for outdoor cycling? Was there a firmware update between tests?

Awesome job Rob :). I'm always checking your videos before think about any watch! The Polar H10 has Bluetooth and ANT+. Some of these watches can't pair with Polar H10 to improve HR while doing exercises?

Nice video, I’m using the epix 2 as my daily driver , it doesn’t read the heart rate accordingly in gym
@alexpope512 жыл бұрын
Fantastic job! No doubt your videos give a very objective information on smart watches. It would be great (for those old guys suffering from osteoarthritis) if you also could analyze the heartbeat recording performance of these watches when swimming.

Thanks so much for this video! Could you do a review of the Huawei Watch Fit New & the Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro? I'm missing both these sub $100 options which would be perfect for me. I can't seem to find any heartrate info about them online, and am wondering if they can compete with the Huawei Watch Fit 2. Thanks!

Great analysis and love the charts. Thank you for an excellent video. Been waiting for this one after you preview of it on video shorts. Nice to see that there are other alternatives to the Apple Watch that are decently reliable for everyday usage.

What a super great video and comprehensive review! If possible (I know this is hard), I do hope you put firmware version for each watches as the basis. Also if you want to conduct another test, maybe running and GPS test for those watches who had it. Thanks!
@TheQuantifiedScientist2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestions Yusfa! Indeed, I should make some time to record firmware version, though retrospectively this is tough. And, yes, a more comprehensive GPS test would be great!

Great work but what about the Apple Watch Series 6 for cycling outdoors? You didn’t include it and I’m an outdoor cyclist and an Apple Watch Series 6 owner 😂. Should I assume similar accuracy to the Series 7 for outdoor cycling?
