Let's hear it. Glass or polycarbonate lenses and why?

Own Smiths and like'em. I also have fishing-specific Costas and they might be slightly better on the water (and for hunting).

I prefer amber/yellow for fishing and driving. Comparing same quality lenses in the colors - you will always see fish better with yellow/amber and driving in low light or whiteout snow / torrential downpour/ split pea fog - yellow/amber beats all.

Great tips, thanks! I've not used the yellow (except for on ski goggles where they are great in low light), but I do love the amber lenses for most conditions.

My longfins polarized coating came off. Customer service gave me a code for a new pair. I'm torn whether I go Barra or get another pair of Longfins. I like the look of the Barras. I only bought the longfins because they were the best pair at my local fly shop. If you had to choose....

If I were getting them purely for fishing I'd get the Longfins because they wrap and feel more comfortable to me. But if I wanted them for everyday wear too, I'd get the Barra. The main thing I don't like about the Barra is you get quite a bit of glare coming in from the side which annoys me.

I'm wondering how these glasses support depth perception in water.

They are fantastic for that! The polarized lenses reduce the glare on the water surface and let you see down into the water quite well.

Hi, since you are a SMITH expert, I would like to buy the GUIDE'S CHOICE TECHLITE GLASS LIGHT IGNITOR PHOTOCHROMIC model (Yellow Lenses) but I don't know if it's obsolete thechnology and I should buy the last version with Chromapop technology and give up PHOTOCHROMIC, that I'd need most. Could you suggest me the right choice. Thank you, all the best.

In my opinion, it depends on what you'll use them for. If you plan to use them for fishing, I'd get Chromapop lenses for sure. They're polarized to reduce glare off the water so you can see "into" the water better, whereas photochromic lenses are not. Since the Guide's Choice is made for fishing and water sports, almost all of the options are for polarized Chromapop lenses and it's hard to find anything else (or they just don't make other options anymore). Photochromic lenses transition for different lighting conditions and are popular in sports like cycling. Smith has some good options in their cycling lineup, but not so much for fishing. If you're looking at a yellow lense that's a low light option anyway. You could look at the Chromapop bronze mirror, brown, or yellow lenses for more low light sight fishing. But if you don't plan to use these for fishing or on the water and reducing glare is not a priority, go for the Techlite photochromic option. They seem cool too.

@@theoutdoorempire The photochromic one are polarized too but as fly fisherman I'll follow your suggestion to get Chromapop lenses. Thank you!

How come you guys never talk about the Resolve Sunglasses that’s what I have and they are nice.

Those look nice too, but the reason I didn't test them for the best fishing sunglasses is because they've made and marketed for sports like cycling and running. By all means you can use them for fishing but they just weren't on my radar for that.
