I may try this. My New England grandmother used to make a clam dip that is similar, using cans of minced clam and a bottle of clam juice. It tastes better than it sounds!

Thank you Chef Buck and Camera Girl! My dad and grandfather used to go fishing for mackerel and would have it smoked and canned! We would pull out the canned mackerel for the holiday appetizer plates! I have to say I am part of the "love canned fish team". This year I think I will use this recipe, but will look for canned smoked salmon, I don't think the family will like the sardines, but a yes with me on all canned fish. Funny thing is my dad would sit in front of our TV also eating canned sardines and even pickled herring on crackers with his beer! 😂 Yep what memories 😂 Have a good and safe weekend!

my dad would drink beer and stink up the house with sardines on crackers and hog the television all weekend watching crummy sports! what a terrible childhood I had! And now I do the same thing, but I'm watching Downton Abbey ...I might be less macho than my dad was :^)

Looks awesome. Will try it! I make a smoked fish dip by combining a small can of wild caught salmon with cream cheese, green onion, dash of garlic and a few drops of bottles smoke. It’s wonderful! My kids expect it at holiday time.

adding liquid smoke sounds very interesting...I'll have to give it a try...thanks!

I use onions in my fish dip its an absolute must. Sardines are my go but if I don't have that on hand then tuna is my second option. This looks delicious

Sardine hack! Pull the can ring up then drain the juice out before pulling the entire top off. No more surprise spills while struggling with that razor. Unless you enjoy living on the edge 😉. The dip looks yum… you had me at the brick of cream cheese and lemon.

Hey Buck, I always enjoy the banter between you and Lisa. Your final presentation was excellent. I am working on some low-cost sandwich spread recipes and one of them will be fish.

do you like pimento cheese? I love that stuff, as well as a white cheese version with jalapenos. and egg salad is one of my favorites too. I think I mostly just want to find excuses to eat bread

Remember when sardines had to be opened with a key? Put the key in the IDK a lock or hole or whatever and try to roll it back. I did cut myself on that . I much prefer the way we open them now.

I do remember that...and some cans of corned beef still open with a key (which breaks waaaay to often while opening)

I would love some smoked fish dip and eat it with veggie crudites, just to be healthier. Thanks so much for this quick and easy recipe 👍😋 Yes, I hate those dangerous metal pull-off tops. In fact, I cut myself badly the other day opening a can of garbanzo beans. I rather use a can opener which is safer.

CG can slice up a bunch of carrots and celery and be happy eating those with dip, which is good, for sure...but I'm not as happy without the crackers

Love the idea of sardine and cream cheese but the less heavy recipe is always better! I agree with you on the name "herring" sounding more magical than sardine! The packaging needs some Innovation for sure. I also love it when everyone has enough but when it comes to fishes, nobody has enough! Thank you for sharing, Chef Buck and CG! Have a great weekend and take care

fish dip is so pricey at the grocery--and you pay so much for so little! It's definitely worth the effort to make fish dip from scratch, especially since it's not really much effort at all :^)

Hi, CB and CG! Love smoked fish in any form. Lox, chopped herring, and pickled herring in cream sauce, were my favorites. We used to make a smoked fish dip by shredding the meat from a smoked whitefish and mixing it with cream cheese. NOTE ON SHARP CAN LIDS: Season brand canned sardines changed their packaging a few years ago. Their cans now have a thick foil top, which is sort of heat-sealed onto the can, with a tab at one end. You may still get airborne fish juice (I have hand tremors so it's par for the course with me). But the chances of slicing your hands open is greatly reduced. Grew up in the 1950's, in a Brooklyn NY neighborhood with an "appetizing store", which was a sort of grocery/deli. It featured a long refrigerated display and counter that held a huge variety of smoked fish, fresh cheeses and deli salads. They also had barrels of pickles. And shelves of imported European delicacies in jars and cans. I liked to just stand there and inhale all the interesting and mouth-watering aromas. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
@ChefBuckRecipes Жыл бұрын
Whenever anyone mentions barrels of pickles I think of that movie "Crossing Delancey?" did you ever see it? It's a real sweet movie, and one of the main characters is a Pickle Man in NYC. Most of the times I've ever cut myself on a sardine can, it was while cleaning it in the sink afterwards :^(
@MsLeenite Жыл бұрын
@@ChefBuckRecipes I saw Crossing Delancey many years ago - it starred Amy Irving, didn't it? I remember enjoying the film, so maybe it's time to go find & watch it again.

This one time we found this amazing smoked salmon dip whilst grocery shopping and it was friggin' amazing! Once we finished it we went to buy more only for the grocery store to not have it anymore! We tried other smoked salmon dips and they were all awful! To this day we've yet to find that first one again! It was so good too! Tragic, I know... 😥

ALERT! I am one of your subscribers and love your channel. I went on your website and wanted to print the Herring recipe; there is an advert on there that indicates print recipe but is not legitimate. Clicking it locked my computer, and I was nearly scammed by fake tech support posing as Microsoft. Please beware and clean up your website; it has a lot of intrusive ads on there. I have a screenshot I can share with you but cannot find your email. FYI: Your herring recipe is so good and I have it ready for an event tomorrow.
