I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for six MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

Matt , I know you sleep well at night. You are telling the truth. In the past I won two tournaments, one with a 1/2 oz football and the Carolina rig with a 1/4 oz egg sinker. The dock talk was go heavy for more disturbances. I disagreed but kept my mouth shut. Both are usually in the boat. You have ton of knowledge and I appreciate you sharing.

In the past I had used a lightly weighted worm or General style bait with a sliding bobber to fish ponds. Putting the bobber stop on the Lure Side allows the lure to sink nearly straight down towards the bottom. With the real engaged and no Slack. lift with the Rod High which raises the lore off of the bottom in a more vertical movement. I had to experiment with different lures and different weights and different bobbers . This helped me avoid some snags. Pencil style bobbers allow for longer cast , but round Bobbers resist movement through the water better giving a more vertical lift to the lure. It definitely works better with lighter fishing line.

Great video, I never thought of a open hook swimbait as being weedless. I use a Flashy Swimmer style swimbait hook. It’s great for dragging rocks because the blade makes a lot of noise banging on rocks too. A bladed style hook stays down easier than a non bladed swimbait hook for some reason.

good stuff Matt! I 100% agree on the lighter weight on jigs, etc. if I am not in the boat and fishing from the bank, I have found that critical when using a Ned rig. I will use 1/15 or 1/10oz for sure!

Tiny Child Rig! Spinner bait, underspin? But for sure TCR is the most snag proof method for fishing there is and its pretty effective and simple. I think its the same thing you are calling a chicken rig? But I forget about it all the time when Im in heavy cover. Its been that way ever since I picked up a finesse jig, but I need to remember that Tiny Child Rig when Im out there trying to force feed them a jig, problem with that is I can almost always find one willing to bite the jig even if it takes a while and I have to down size, I love when there on the jig though Its my second favorite way to catch them and the topwater bite has been slow AF this year so Im fishing that jig alot, so thanks for all your jig tips they have for sure helped.

Most of the time when I snagged on rocks it isn't the rocks that snagged me, it's other people's lines that snagged on the rocks that snagged me. Lost a ton of lures that way, very frustrating. Sometimes during the middle of August when the temps are high and the water is low in the lakes I go around the rocky banks to look for lures and sinkers that are stuck on the rocks. The shocking thing that I find is that some people use 3-4 oz sinkers to fish around these rocky shores! Is it a wonder I always snag on their lines?

I've always had troubles trying to fish swim jigs on the river which work so well for smallies, but I now truly see my problem thanks to your tip Matt! I cannot wait to get some better swim jig heads with that 30 degree line tie and try it out!
@stoneysdead689
@stoneysdead689 2 жыл бұрын
I have trouble with swim jigs in the rocks to man- my problem was the line tie angle and the weight I was using- once I switched over to a 30 degree line tie and a lighter weight I'm doing much better. As long as I keep it moving, if I stop it or especially if I let it sit for a few seconds, it will still settle into a crack. That pointed head is made for grass really. I wish I could find a jig head like the one he showed here- looked like a guppy head but the line tie was at 30 instead of 90.

Hey Matt- what jig head was that you showed us? It looked just like a guppy head but the line tie was at 30 degrees instead of 90. All the guppy heads I can find have the 90 degree line tie. That head looks less prone to getting stuck in the cracks because it's not pointed.

4:16: "... pretty weedless when fishing ... rocks." What about when fishing around weeds?
@stoneysdead689
@stoneysdead689 2 жыл бұрын
I think it works pretty well in the weeds- speaking for myself but- the hook can snag being open like that. A swim jig head that would allow us to tex-pose the hook, T rig the bait- that would be awesome. That said- I don't know if any exist- seems like a no brainer, I bet someone has made one. I know you can get the belly weighted swimbait hooks but- I mean a jig head with a ewg hook on it- maybe free swinging. - Hmmm, maybe I should just rig it on a swing head jig huh? Have to find one with a ball head on it though- or a pointed head.
