Your snare drum sound is possible the most important part of your setup. Let's take all assumptions out about what snare drum head sounds "best" between Remo and Evans with a real sound comparison. Here we will do a deep dive sound comparison between the following heads on my snare drum batter side: * Remo Ambassador Coated: amzn.to/4beObP8 * Evans G1 Coated: amzn.to/4dPP1lG *If you purchase through the above links, I'll make a tiny commission. That'll make me super happy, as I could buy more drums!*

Remo has a crown for a reason

Really really close, and that's with headphones on. When you were doing the "heavy" sixteenth notes on the set, the Remo came through over the toms, the Evans seemed quieter. But excellent.

Very cool test with very well covered tension variations. If I was to shut my eyes, there’s no way I could tell the difference between the two. I’ve been a Remo user all my life. To each his own! I guess another possibility would be an Aquarian equivalent as well. Thanks for a fair and interesting test!

Down to your preferred overtones on these. Very close.

Both are great snare heads. Brushes sound nicer on Remo head... to my ears anyway. Both are made in America.

Nice comparison...without the snare wires engaged, the Remo sounds a tad drier than the Evans. I noticed however that, when you started playing throughout the different tunings, the Evans kind of sounds a bit brighter, but also, has some higher pitched overtones so, that definitely would be part of the overall sound. Remo on the other hand, has lower sounding overtones and I'm more than sure that has to do with the thickness of the coating. All in all, both sound good and, at the end of the day, it'll be personal preference in sound and brand loyalty/liking. I have a DW Collectors Cherry drumset, swapped the stock heads with Remo Pinstripes and noticed the same as you mentioned, Remo has a more tight fit on the drums and in my case, the drums had to be tuned slightly higher due to the head collar not seating properly so, I took a chance on the Evans EC 2S and what a difference, they sat perfectly without any effort whatsoever and tuned up easily and quickly. Keep up the good work, been following your channel for a while now. 🥁

Thank you so much! I'm still new to Evans myself, but hope to explore that more as well.

Evans every time. Remo heads take too long to dial in and sound boxy to me. Evans tune up faster and last longer.

I tried Aqiarian once, maybe 2 decades ago now. I didn't care for it back then. But tbh it's been a long time, and they've probably made big improvements.
