For me the glass is fine. Ok the anti reflective coating is a point. The glass splits the numbers, yes, but for me it gives the watch kind of charming imperfection.

Hi Jody, I had originally decided to pass on this watch, but after watching your review and others I decided to go for it. The Bradner just arrived today and I’m glad I got it. It looks amazing in person and feels wonderful on wrist. Keep up the good work!

Agree totally about the glass and a flat glass would also slim down the thickness which I think would also improve the look of this watch on the wrist.

WARNING!!! Spinnaker use Fed Ex who have a depot at UK and I suspect other EU airports and automatically pay import duty to that government. Then on delivery charge a administration charge on top of that!! So got a £38 or $50 US import tax bill. £12 of that was Fed Ex fees.I bought the Spinnaker Hull and love it but will not buy from them again.

Love your channel... I’ve checked in on a regular basis for about 1.5 years, but this is my first comment. This Spinnaker is a good looking watch, though I’ve had the DH 1970 (in 40) for a while and absolutely love it. Also, I know these are all homages to vintage pieces (I have a perfect ‘71 Tissot T12 compressor along with some interesting Bulova divers), and that is OK. But... I feel this Spinnaker really did lift 90% of its design from the DH, which has been out for some time.

Hey mate! You should be wearing a Braun watch! Yeah, I know what you mean, but google '1970s compressor' and you'll see watches by Longines and Hamilton which, ahem, inspired BOTH Dan Henry and Spinnaker. Thanks for watching the channel!

I have the Dan Henry, and this looks great too. My only real bothers with the DH is the poor lume, the white date window and ever so slightly misplaced lume on the hands.

About Spinnaker: Spinnaker is one of multiple watch brands of Dartmouth Brands, which sells watches made by Hong Kong watch maker Solar Time, Ltd., founded in 1977. Dartmouth is wholly or majority-owned by Notan Tolani, a naturalized British citizen born in 1946 who immigrated to Hong Kong from Pakistan (he identifies as Indian) when he was 22. Corporate filings indicate that, along with Tolani, Solar Time is also a majority or whole owner of Dartmouth, leading me to believe that Tolani owns Solar, which in turn owns Dartmouth. Dartmouth is a U.K. corporation, apparently a non-resident corporation with no offices in the U.K., because its contact information for legal process is a mail drop/resident agent company. Solar Time Limited in Chinese is 蘇拿太有限公司. (Sources: Forum post, U.K. Companies House website, website for expat Indians in Hong Kong, Bloomberg website, Hong Kong ICRIS company registries search.)

@khronokraze6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review. And, yes, there's been a flood of the Spinnaker reviews over the past week or two. I agree, for the price, especially after all the discount, is quite a value. BUT.. What I have found across all reviews, including yours, is that the lume is unfortunately not that bright nor long-lasting. I'm a lume whore, especially when it comes to a dive watch where you'd expect very good lume, so this is already a major disappointment. Too bad as the lume shots they have on their site where the lume is located looks great.. likely freshly charged and just too bad it will not last. And, this is so far with the green lume. They also have a faux aged lume on some of their other colors, so, I would imagine those might be perhaps even less spectacular since the lume has been tinted to give it that patina'd lume paint look. The dial details throughout are pretty cool. Decent amount of layering and textures.. just enough without being too much. Most noticeably on the outer rotating bezel. Maybe the AR coating isn't the best, but reflections aside, I think the distortion of the dial add to the dial's inherent visual depth.. yes, as you noted, the distortion can break up the details of the dial a bit much, but I suppose that may lend itself to a more vintage sort of look... might be a bit too much? Could be fixed with some polishing on the crystal in that area? Take a closer look at the end of the hour hand. I can see it in your video, but at the very point it appears the hand is not cleanly cut.. as Patrick from Take Time has mentioned, it looks sort of like an unclean snip off a sprue like you get from model kit pieces before you more finely trim down and sand such snipped parts down. It is a small detail, but a detail none the less and sort of cheapens the overall look and feel of the execution of the watch dial's hand set. I'm not certain if this "sprue" issue I can see on the hour hand is apparent on the minute and seconds hands as well? For a little over $200, it's still a very good buy. I was so close to jumping to get one, but some of the negatives I noted above. Yes, the Dan Henry 1970 is the most obvious rival. I think the DH may be better finished overall considering. BUT, the 1970 has been notorious plaqued with crystal issues. I think it cracks easily and/or I have heard the crystal pops out altogether... in either case, definitely not something you want to happen in a dive watch.

I was watching and pricing the watch as you went along and was expecting $300 so good start .Very nice but like you say an odd choice of crystal shape that's neither one or the other and most likely a very good reason why no one else seems to use it ,Bit like Dyson's silly wheel barrow with a solid plastic ball for a wheel . Maybe in dingy old GB where it rains most days it wont be a problem but I don;t think it's just you and could be the most annoying thing ever.

Excellent review again Jory. Just a shame the watch isn't in my opinion, I'm not a fan of the looks either. Agree totally with you on the crystal and it's far too deep also if it's a diver only 150m and that other bezel does not screw down either? I would be reluctant to get it wet but sadly I will never be wearing it. The Dan Henry would get my vote too IF I had to get this style of watch.

@tc65786 жыл бұрын
I do agree that the DH 1970 is a better looking watch. I really dig the 40 mm version. If not because of the shattering crystal and misaligned date aperture issues, I would have pulled the trigger on the 40 mm version with the orange accent. This Spinnaker compressor-style diver just does not "float my boat", so to speak! Moreover, it is simply too large for my skinny wrist.
@HeathenDan6 жыл бұрын
I like the looks of the Dan Henry but their QC leaves a lot to be desired. I have their 1963 and the chrono second hand is misaligned with the index markers. I am considering this watch over the 1970.
@noosamike6 жыл бұрын
T CHAN I haven’t heard of any unexplained shattering of crystals on 1970 model watches although there is a comment on watchuseek where an owner stood on the watch shattering the crystal and Dan Henry replaced the watch for free. Are there other examples you know of which perhaps have supporting evidence as to why they shattered. Dan Henry seems to take customer concerns very seriously.

It's just an adjustment, please follow this instruction: This procedure must be performed when the chronograph second-hand does not return to the Zero position. 1. Pull the crown out to the 2nd Click Position. 2. Press the button "A" once to set the chronograph second hand to the Zero position. * The chronograph hand can be advanced rapidly by continuously pressing button "A". 3. Once the hands are set at Zero position, reset the time and return the crown to its normal position. 4. to adjust your right sub-dial do the same but pressing the "B" pusher.

Jody, I have the Dan Henry 44mm 1970 in Orange, with the 24mm lugs. I recently got it, around the time the Spinnaker Bradner was announced. I am extremely happy with my purchase, even after the reviews. They've mostly been positive, but I have found the step around the Spinnaker, and the distortion around the edge really bothers me. I have a Spinnaker Fleuss, and have been happy with it, but I think the Dan Henry is still the choice between the two for me.

Cool Watch, perfect dimensions (which I'd had wished on the DH 1970!) but I prefer its 'obvious competitor' despite the rather clumsy 24mm-lug width on the 44mm version, which I love and own with the orange accents...Thanks, Jody! :-)

Really good looking watch, but why did they use such weak lume for those big indices and numerals?? Makes no sense. I honestly can’t figure Spinnaker out; their Cahill and Croft models have great lume. Hit or miss I guess. I’ll still begrudgingly probably get this model though.
