Best thing about this guitar, besides the fact that it’s awesome, is that it’s not the poor man’s version of a current/in-production Fender. It’s its own thing.

I have the one in black - now my main guitar. The range of tones make it really versatile. This is the most accurate / useful review I've seen. Only things I'm gonna change on mine is split the coils and remove the humbucker covers.

This Squier looks like it’s a proper build. Everything looks good quality and the pickups sound like they have a fair bit of clarity to them unlike most humbucking budgets. Love the colour too, looks like Lake Bled in Slovenia 🇸🇮

Even if the strings were new, how long did they sit on a boat from China? Or in a warehouse? Or a showroom. I have had strings come on new guitars that were just plain oxidized steel bars.

I've had mine for 2 years and play a lot of Mastodon-style prog metal, old 80's style thrash metal, and noise rock a la John Spenser Blues Explosion/Big Black/Sonic Youth. This guitar is fantastic for these tones. The Fender twang is definitely there; you can change the capacitors on the tone pots for a darker sound but it won't chug or djent like active pickups. And the neck isn't terribly fast like an Ibanez.
