Best thing about this guitar, besides the fact that it’s awesome, is that it’s not the poor man’s version of a current/in-production Fender. It’s its own thing.

I have the one in black - now my main guitar. The range of tones make it really versatile. This is the most accurate / useful review I've seen. Only things I'm gonna change on mine is split the coils and remove the humbucker covers.

“This means YOU are the ground for this guitar”. This gave me flash backs practicing in a basement with no grounding, playing a toronado and getting shocked every time I needed to palm-mute.

This Squier looks like it’s a proper build. Everything looks good quality and the pickups sound like they have a fair bit of clarity to them unlike most humbucking budgets. Love the colour too, looks like Lake Bled in Slovenia 🇸🇮

Great review! I still have my '99 MEX Fender version (which I've had for +20yrs now), but I've been eyeing the squire version to maybe do some customizing with. Nice to know they're staying true to the original layout.

Even if the strings were new, how long did they sit on a boat from China? Or in a warehouse? Or a showroom. I have had strings come on new guitars that were just plain oxidized steel bars.

Correction: Squiers are not generally thinner. There are some models that are, particularly some HT Strats and a couple of low-end Strats. Otherwise they are the *same* thickness as Fenders.

I own one and as much as I try to like it, I do not. Squires are bad guitars. I picked up a parts caster for the same money as a Squire at my local guitar shop that will blow any Squire out of the water. You could do the same because Squire guitars feel more like toys than musical instruments

Be that excited new guitar owner that wants to hear the guitar as fast as they get it opened, play it then go into specs and details. Otherwise, well it feels cold and academic. Hope that helps?

I've had mine for 2 years and play a lot of Mastodon-style prog metal, old 80's style thrash metal, and noise rock a la John Spenser Blues Explosion/Big Black/Sonic Youth. This guitar is fantastic for these tones. The Fender twang is definitely there; you can change the capacitors on the tone pots for a darker sound but it won't chug or djent like active pickups. And the neck isn't terribly fast like an Ibanez.
