That green and black Tele sounds great. That stacked single coil and neck bucker combo seemed to work really nicely. Of course an SRV inspired strat that it is possible to play without looking like a shameless fanboy is always welcome. I'm actually quite impressed how close to an SRV sound it manages in its defaut configuration despite having strings on it at the opposite end of the scalle from which SRV was known to use. Better put some telegraph wires on that thing! Squire seem to be knocking it out of the park here.

i got one of the contemporary teles a couple of months ago. great guitar. the neck feels amazing, very playable guitar feel. but the star is the pickups, they are SHOCKINGLY good. very hot and not great for an ultra-clean tele sound but they come to life with some gain. imo the best "rock" tele on the market and it's a Squier. the only thing i dislike about it is the tuning pegs, kinda low quality, unfortunately, but it's an easy fix.

How about an Anderton's episode on guitars which "punch above their weight"? Pete and Lee each pick 3 guitars each from the Anderton's stock, at any price point, which they believe actually play/sound much better than than they should for what they cost. You could turn it into a competiton with someone else judging. Or you could each pick a sub £250, a sub £1000 and a sub £1500 with someone judging which is best at each price point.

Thanks guys. Very attractive guitars - especially at the prices!! So much so, I ordered two - the Bass Vi and the 3-burst Strat with the "gold" fittings. Both turned up yesterday as promised and I have played them both quite a bit during the past 24 hours. Some background, although never a professional, I played in bands from 1965 till 2011 and was still solo gigging in 2017 when, unfortunately, severe tinnitus and stiffening fingers made me give up. I sold off all my electric guitars which included three Custom Shop Strats, a Gibson L4, Les Paul and J-200 as well as several acoustics and just retained one acoustic to noodle with at home. I still have my Fender Blues Deluxe Mk III and pedal board - simply because no one wanted to buy them!! These Squiers looked perfect to re-enthuse some electric noodling at home and dusting off my multi-track Tascam unit (also bought from Andersons!). On the whole I am pleased with the two new guitars but agree with several other KZbin videos I have seen on the Squier Bass Vi in particular. The intonation of the lower E is not good and almost im[possible to sort with the bridge supplied. I have seen several videos recommending fitting a Staytrem unit as an upgrade. Secondly the strings fitted - wire round, make an incredibly squeaky sound unless pretty well all the treble is rolled off and are really too light for the guitar, at least the lower strings - the low E really has very little tension making it very hard to get a clean note. I see many Bass VI players recommend LaBella 767-6F Bass VI Stainless Flats - 26-95 for this instrument - I now have a set on order! When using the "whammy" bar there is a really annoying rattle as the bar has a slightly loose fit into the socket and when I use it this is picked up through the pick-ups and is amplified by the amp. Only one day in and I have not had any issues with the tuners but I have seen a few players reporting issues which required them to replace the ones suppled with Klusons. Yes, the instrument is at a very good price and, I think, has great potential but I do feel many buyers will find the need to spend almost as much again on upgrades and professional set-up work to really make it a joy to play. So far I have spent more time with the Bass VI than the SRV inspired Strat. Now, it may be the SRV influence but "out of the box" I found the whammy unit unusable. It is hard down on the body and took considerable force to be able to use it to dip the strings. I guessed there were 5 springs attached and on all my previous Strats took two off to allow both up and down movement. I was therefore surprised to find only three under the plate. I took one off which allowed easier dipping but there was still nothing to allow an upward pull. Are the springs heavier than those fitted to Fender's regular Strats? I notice the strings fitted are very light - possibly .010 on top? I prefer.011s but aren't going to change them until I am satisfied with the guitar overall. I think the frets could do with dressing and good set-up but otherwise this does seem a good value instrument. Just my personal observations from several hours playing these guitars. Perhaps, after twenty years with Custom Shop instruments I am expecting too much from these very inexpensive examples!!!

At 14:00, you hit it on the head, you really can go crazy on upgrades, but, if you choose wisely, you end up with spectacular results: I bought the (Danish Pete) purple FSR Tele and it was okay, but a bit too acoustic-sounding, and, frankly, I could not handle how bad the tuning got as I played chords up the neck. I swapped the pickups (Duncan La Brea), bridge saddles (Wilkinson compensated), new Grover tuners, an Oak-Grigsby 4-way switch, and CTS pots, and I shielded the whole thing with copper tape. I have almost as much into the parts as I did into the guitar, but I ended up with a Tele for which tele players (I'm traditionally a Les Paul player) want to trade me their far more expensive Fenders. And I ended up with exactly what I wanted -- essentially a fully-custom tele -- for way-too-much-money-for-a-Squier, but still maybe 1/3 of what it would have cost me to spec it out and have it built from scratch. Plus, it's purple. Nothing sounds better on a tele than purple.
