The heavy add-on lenses might work with the stabilizer if you add an opposite equal "balance" weight to the phone.

Btw Sara you're supposed to pre calibrate your gimbal before turning it on, that way you will be able to use your moment lenses with the gimbal, look for other reviews online to understand how this is done.

I have the Smooth Q and found that the weight of about 13 quarters (with an extended arm and still working on a better solution) works as a great counterbalance for the Moment wide angle lens on my Pixel 2 XL. Without any lenses attached and still in the Moment case, portrait mode works just fine (not extended on the arm).

Actually Sara the Zhiyun can actually hold case + prime lenses. You should check out Ztylus prime Lenses probably better then Moment lens! I’ve actually won a commercial contest shooting on a iPhone 6s with Ztylus and Zhiyun smooth 3. I think you will be very surprised at the outcome of the footage. Even though you have a bigger iPhone I believe the moment cases maybe too heavy. But check out Ztylus they will be coming out with some new prime lenses.

I own a Smooth Q and I absolutely love it! Buttery smooth movements makes any video look amazing! Being small and easy to transport is awesome too if you don't want to take big equipment with you!

Use the "open camera" app or a similar one to lock your aperture when filming with your phone. Your phone will try to handle to balance over the automatic ISO setting and exposure compensation. This helps to compensate the extrem contrast changes when you tilt or move into the sky during a walk or drive. There are a lot of different apps which can give you more ability to change the simulated settings since the smartphones doesn't really have a real shutter or aperture.

You can use your Moment lenses and case if you put a counter-weight on the right side to balance the extra weight.

I have a DJI Osmo Mobile. It works pretty good. Takes a bit getting used to using it in the public. It doesn't like extra weight either and doesn't open up enough for a case on my iPhone 6 + . One note, I found the iPhone 6+ will suddenly power down or force a USB connection to get it started again in cold winter weather. It still has battery life, but I guess it can't handle the cold when shooting video for any length of time. Just wanted to let you know, in case it happens to you.

You should have tried the Zhiyun Crane-m, that gimball works with iphones (+ Lens&Mic) and you can also use it with your Sony RX100 MK5.

I have a small tip for you try to adjust the iphone at the stabilizer so it is horizontal before you gimbal turn on that the motors do not work so much maybe go then also the lens with the case. My English is unfortunately not the best I hope I could help you thereby.

Great video Sara! One thing though, you know that you didn't balance the phone before turning it on? that will put a lot of strain on the motors, and reduce battery life. :) I think you will be able to balance the phone even with the heavy lenses. you just need to extend the arm supporting the phone, until it can of support itself and doesn't dangle around. :) Then the motors will only be used for compensation rather than lifting the whole device

Nice review! You should check the Zhiyun Crane M (which also works with phones). I use one of those with my RX100 IV, and it works really nicely. I put a base plate on there so I don’t have to balance it every time. And the RX100 IV I have wired to a 20,000mah portable charger, so it can be used all day without ever needing to change batteries.

Sara, grab yourself a regular Zhiyun Crane, a Joby Gorilla pod tripod mount, and a Shoulderpod or GLIF for the phone. Portrait/Landscape videos, and, when you're not using it for your phone, you can use it for your Sony. :)

Rotate the the lens clip so it's not got half of it sticking waaaay outside the phone's body. The leverage on that extra weight is what's upsetting the gimbal motors, plus you're more likely to catch it on things as you walk by. You've even got a picture showing how to attach it correctly on the box. :) Keep weight central and the motors will be happy and the batteries will last longer when they're not working so hard. With your other heavier lenses that clip on the case: try velcroing - or otherwise temporarily attaching - a small counterweight (coins?) on the other side of the case. Ideally you want your phone to be happy to hang almost level with NO motors on. The gimbal is supposed to KEEP the camera/phone level, not FORCE it level. Best of luck. :)
