That is Hakka style Yong Tau Fu with stuffed meat (usually fish, meat n water chestnut), a common dish in Hakka family. Some hawker stalls, they sell them as AnPang YongTau Fu...if I am correct. Glad you love to eat them.

Ghib, the dried fish you picked up at 04:13 is what we call "tee poh" in Hokkien - it's dried solefish! Quite a common addition into fish-based stock across various Chinese cuisine here (Teochew style fish soup, BCM soup).

The "fried fish" in bar chor me is called bian yu, sole fish. Very common in bar chor mee actually. Minced meat in fishball is called fu zhou yu yuan. Meat balls I believe are quite standard ones that you can get from supermarkets haha. And no we won't dip our dry noodles into the soup as it will be like washing all the sauce from the noodles. If you wanted soup with noodles can just order soup version. That's hakka yong tou fu...usually with fish and/or minced meat paste with chestnut and salted fish...very common in KL.

Back in the old days 1960s to 1970s Punggol was mainly rubber plantations, pig and chicken farms. The community are mostly Teochew and even the Malays there could speak Teochew dialect. At the end of Punggol Road was the famous mee goreng and sea food stalls. Those were the days.

Hi Ghib, been following your channel in the States and originally from Singapore. (Still a Singaporean) However, when you were eating the egg plant dish, the local Singaporean will usually call that Brinjal instead of Egg plant. Only when I came to the US 20+ years ago that i notice the difference in name. Also lady's fingers its call okra here. Anyway, good job in promoting Hawker food and I miss the food back home.

I visit a few days ago, find the price is too much, even higher than similar dishes in nearby private shopping mall, Waterway Point. Although I can afford it and l live nearby, but thinking neighbouring hawker centre should take care of more normal people. I couldn't do much, only thing I can do is, my family will never buy food from there before it becomes more price-favourable. As a normal consumer, that is my social responsibility, to make it more rational.

Thanks for showcasing the new hawker centre. I don't even consider myself early if I reach any heartland hawker centre at 7.30am... ;P. The fishball noodles with the flatfish and fuzhou fishballs, those have been around for a long long time. Probably not very common, but definitely traditional ingredients and reason why there is a long queue.

First and last time to try the prata there. Coffee stall so long queue only one stall selling beverage of Coffee, tea and soft drinks.

Was so excited to finally have a hawker center in punggol. But so far the foods I try is overpriced for the quality, price similar to food court but the taste only so so,n some even worse than food court. Not sure if the rental is higher than other hawker center but the quality doesn't justify the price. Would totally willing to pay the price if the taste or quality is good. Haven't tried all the foods yet of course, will try one by one,but so far doesn't look promising n seem like it's a missed opportunity. Oh,n the Indian Muslim stall next to the prata shop was terrible,ok price but the kway teow goreng I tried was like just noodle n super tasteless,I was looking at some other customers food order while waiting for my order n it look all look terrible, plain without much ingredients at all,not even much visible egg. N the kambing soup was watery as hell.

Why is a hawker center not located beside HDB blocks? Why must residents walk more than 400 meters or take bus/LRT to get there? 400 meters is measured from the MRT station itself (Google Map, straight-line distance).

One of the worst hawker centres in Singapore.. Being a Punggol resident I have been anticipating the opening for the past 3 years. Food stalls are all overpriced and the queue during peak hours are ridiculously long... The tables & premise is also dirty. In order to get the 10% discount, u have to download the Timbre app. I have approached a few stalls (75 Ah Balling peanut soup, Thunder Tea rice stall) on how to top-up my credit after downloading it. The stall holders don't even know how to top-up.. Got a shock when the No. 25 Minced Meat Noodle cost $8! OMG! And portion is pathetic ..little ingredients just 1 meat ball 1 fish ball and a few pork slice. When u have such F&B group managing a neighbourhood hawker centre it is bound to fail one day just like the hawker centre at Pasir Ris Central.. Food is mediocre and absolutely overpriced...The traditional hawker centres are still the best. Pls skip this place it is definitely not worth the hype.
