Frost resetting does make sense. The two playstyles end up about equal, depending on the amount of frost proccs you gain. If it nets you two more proccs during the fight, it's equal/worth it. You can't build up new frostbite while the enemy has the debuff. You shouldn't be too worried about the frost resist increase, because the enemy will typically die before it gets too high, as long as you're dealing significant damage outside frost. And if you're not dealing significant damage outside of frost... then obviously that devalues +20% modifier on that damage as well. The key tradeoff is dealing 20% more dmg with your swings or building up to cut a little over 7% of the boss hp. Two extra proccs will deal 14-15% of the boss hp. If you dealt +20% damage with ALL your hits then that would effectively require you to only deal 83.3% of the boss hp (so 'removing' 16.7%) This ends up about equal because you're not actually getting that +20% for every hit against the boss. I did a practical test of this against Radagon and ended up with similar clear times.
@GinaDriedUp13 күн бұрын
Frost is great for close range too, especially with dex builds focused on landing a lot of hits in a short amount of time. My first build I beat the game with was a dual frost katana mage build with winged sword insignia and millicent's prosthesis. It required a lot of good timing, and I messed it up a lot. But when I learned all of the right punish windows and took advantage of them consistently enough, even the beefiest of boss health bars just got absolutely shredded. I still remember how my solo fight with Starscourge Radahn ended. I had like one or two crimson flasks left and he still had about a fourth of his health left and wouldn't stop throwing rocks and gravity shockwaves all over the place. But while I was panic-spamming L1, I somehow got lucky and procced frost and bleed at the same time, deleting the rest of his health bar and defeating him on the spot. It was the craziest moment I've ever had in any of these games.
@GoonCommander9 ай бұрын
Also thanks for telling people not to do the frost reset build. It's overall a terrible Idea. People would often point to "Let me solo her" and how he apparently uses Rivers and a Cold Uchi but like Malenia has both very low bleed and very low frost resist so, regardless if it's better than not resetting frost, the reset build works better on her than other enemies. I think you generally have to do more than 6000 dpm against malenia to make the frost debuff more useful than frost resetting but damage that low probably happens if your not using buffs so I guess frost resetting is optimal for the people who use it.
@Not____Applicable9 ай бұрын
No, let me solo her was not the one to do it and wasn’t the only one who knew about it in during the time slightly after release of the game. Idk why yall are trying to tell people not to do it but it definitely works effectively. I wouldn’t best the entire game if that were the case.
@GoonCommander9 ай бұрын
The point is that just using the frost debuff to do 20% more damage is better at higher dps since the frostbite damage is a flat% When it's possible to kill malenia in 1 minute which is like 500 damage per second getting boosted by 20% for at least half the time or an extra 100 dps. This is much faster than relying on the frostbite damage and having to proc it like 4 times as her frost resist goes up. In order for frost resetting to be your best method of damage dealing you have to already have such a low DPS that your either not using buffs for some reason or your not taking your openings/getting hit a bunch

When the game first came out I remembered a lot of people telling me traditional quality(STR/DEX) was dead because the game was all about magic, but that's my favorite build in every fromsoft game. I used off hand cold and main hand fire bandit's curved swords and the build was absolutely insane. Might have been the bandit's curved swords being broken, but resetting and reapplying frost with L1's was a blast, jumping attack was absolutely broken too. Highly recommend claw, ritual sword, milicent's prosthesis, and winged/rotten sword talismans with this build. There aren't many enemies in the game that resist fire/frost damage, but when they do, you can switch to another damage type like lightning, or just go bleed.

For the sleep section, you should've briefly spoke about the ripple crescent halberd when talking about sleep weapons. I hope, with the DLC close by, that deathblight gets a rework, it could be the opposite of frost, where you get a debuff for atk, rather than defense, and make the deathlightimg infusion, with its scaling being the faith counterpart of cold, it’ll keep the defensive themes of miracles/incantations, and would finally give people a lightning infusion with faith.

I know fire/lightning doesn't have a status effect to proc but I still feel like it should have been included in this list as maybe an bonus extra since it doesn't quite fit the video description. For the DLC I went Fire and Blood powerstanced greatswords (I also switched out the effects for frost or lightning occasionally depending on the enemies I'd be facing)- it made the DLC super easy. I only switched my build for Messmer and Radahn. It was so much fun, I wish I had more time to play ng+ but I have work to do- took a week off to play the DLC, that was barely enough time to get through it! Frost/fire works extremely well, especially for low level builds. If you can proc it fast you get the damage, reset with and build it up again, in the end you can theoretically do more damage re-procing than that 20% damage buff gives you with the right build. Let Me Solo Her uses this sort of build a lot with hoarfrost stomp/bloodflame to keep reprocing. It didn't make sense to me at first either, but it works very well if you can build up frost very quickly.

Deathblight is basically just Curse from DS1 and you have no way of causing the effect yourself. So they kept this, in my opinion, cool gameplay mechanic in Elden Ring but gave you a way to cause it to other players. It's purposefully bad because as said in the video it's hard to balance and also it's okay to have a build in a game that is explicitly terrible it's about whether you enjoy that build considering more than just it's viability. But since players now have a way of causing it, deathblight gets shitted on as if it's something that needs to be changed. I don't see anyone complaining about not being able to Petrify enemies in DS2.

Bleed has the highest amount of applicable bosses and targets in the game that are susceptible to the status effect
@Aiden-Ed9 ай бұрын
Saying this before I even start the video, the best two are scarlet rot and frost is #1. My reasoning is that scarlet rot seems to be the single most reliable status effect while also being generally more powerful than poison. And frost is just the most powerful in my opinion cause it boosts the damage of everything besides fire by 20% which is extremely useful.

Scarlet rot has its use, but what’s the point of waiting the DoT, if you can bleed them to death quickly?
@Aiden-Ed9 ай бұрын
@@ReturnoftheLightningcause there’s a ton of bleed resistant or immune enemies and bosses. Bleed is better on bosses but frost is even better than bleed for bosses too. And scarlet rot still adds an indefinite amount of damage between hits. If you proc rot once then it will usually do 1/3 of the bosses health guaranteed. It makes diminishing returns and just an active playstyle not be completely necessary and something that weighs down the status like bleed does.

in the DLC, are there any scarlet rot sources that give the stronger version (like the scarlet aeonia spell did)?

Bleed; and to a lesser degree, frostbite, are two ailments that I have to admit to not liking, and growing to dislike even more as the game went on. The 'win-more' mechanics of flat percentile damage are either something you are just leaving on the table by not using them, or your build already melts things fast enough to not need that damage to begin with. Meanwhile; I actually like destined death and black flame more and more as I've played. Mostly because its not instant pops of said damage; but an almost better version of poison and scarlet rot, that also stacks with both. it's a shame poison will never be as good as its DkS2 version though; and I'd honestly take the bleed status from that game too, if only to not have it just be "pop, there goes some health".

Honestly, madness being ranked as the third worst status effect in this video should be (at least) a small reason why people should just give up on Vike’s war spear (I’m saying this because Vike’s war spear being the only weapon in the game that can build up madness is an incredibly poor excuse to be the best weapon in the game)

Resetting frost with fire gives you essentially bleed at home, but unlike the "x at home" memes this is actually amazing. If you run a bleed/frost build you can just get two whole chunks of health melted away at the same time
