I listened to the dt770 at guitar center along with every single one of their headphones on display for close to 2 hours. I listened to them once and never went back to them. Way to thin and bright sounding for me. Theyd give me a headache in 5 minutes. I did like their comfort though.

Thank you for the nice summary of the reviews I've heard also from other users of the same headphones. If only there were something like DT 770 but open-back or at least semi-open. I've heard these three headphones, but I recommend the Sivga SV006 (or BossHifi B8) with Brainwavz pads (standard, oval, protein leather) installed. Without question, they are the best-sounding, lower-cost, closed-back headphone on the market. With Brainwavz pads installed, their sound-stage, imaging, and overall frequency response (slightly boost bass and treble) will astound for critical listening and mixing, alike.

I would actually recommend the ATH-M40x headphones over the M50x. The M40x has a much flatter frequency response and is a bit less expensive. They are both still fantastic headphones though! However, the M50x seems to have too much bass to work as a good do it all set of headphones for producing and mixing.

Hey i just saw your video, awesome content and I decided to go for the DT 770 but I have some questions and I hope you can help me out. 1. Whats the difference between the 32, 80 and 250 Ohm? I don't understand how Ohm works but I've heard in other videos that I should get a preamp in order to listen through 80 and 250 Ohm. 2.I'll also buy a Focusrite Scarlet 6i6 and according to tech specs, the impedance of the headphone output is only 10 so what that means is that I won't be able to connect even the 32 ohm version to my interface? I'm really confused.

I've done my research, and apparently the Sennheiser HD 280 pro is highly recommended and a standard for a lot of professionals. It is also around the price I'm looking for; around 150 euros. The thing is, I don't know how recent a lot of the websites are and if Sennheiser possibly has newer, improved models around the same price? I'm hoping you can give me a little more information about this. Thanks in advance.

I really like the Sennheiser HD 280 pro, I've been using them for many years now for cleaning up sounds and for getting my mid range and overall "headphone mixes" right... in tandem with my monitors. I actually like the HD 280 pro better than the HD 380 Pro - even though the HD 380 are much higher in price. When comparing them, I found the HD 280's had a tighter sound in the low end and overall sounded more detailed than the HD 380s.. to my ears.

EvilYakuza The HD280'S are tracking headphones, not made for mixing. Mixes will be over bassy. I have used them for many years. You can certainly use them for editing. Very nice video, detailed and on point. Would you recommend the DT 990 pro over the 770? I’m fairly newb to the headphone market but I’ve heard open back is better for mixing than closed back. I mainly work with extreme metal genres.
@SeanDivine
@SeanDivine 7 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried the 990 but in my experience, the 770 seem to translate better than the others here. Open back will give you better low end response and sound stage but you can compensate in a closed back once you get used to them

Is it unimportant if mixing headphones are open or closed back? I thought closed back headphones are more for vocal recording and open ones are primarily for mixing?
@SeanDivine

it's personal preference, both can work well for mixing although closed back are better for isolation. I'm just now checking out some open back headphones and will be sharing content to touch more on this subject...

@SeanDivine
@SeanDivine 3 жыл бұрын
the beyerdynamic are more of a "complete" mixing headphone IMO (i.e. the DT770 or DT990)... not to say you can't mix with the 7506... they're great at picking out details in the top end but are a bit harsh and lacking in the lows

It comes down to what you're using them for. If strictly for mixing, the 990 would likely give you a better low end response and sound stage since they're open back. I use my 770 for both mixing and tracking so I would think they are more versatile.

I have been extremely happy with the with the ATHM40x, I feel they are more balanced than the m50x's. The low end is not as hyped as the m50x's. Thats my two cents, but for $100 they are really great! I have previously used the Sennheiser HD280's but the ATHM40x's have a better low end response.
