Welcome to another episode of Trailmakers! Today we build a few different stunt flying quadcopters to see how they behave using sets of big propellers vs sets of small propellers. Is more power better? Or is more compact better? The results seem pretty clear and I now have a new FAVORITE CREATION!

Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

The basic quadcopter frame you built in this video looks to be a great base frame for a large variety of lightweight vehicles, when you pulled the small props off, I immediately thought go-kart, mini-hovercraft, mini-wall climber, I think you could do a lot with that lightweight chassis design.

I see alot of people telling you to build specific things in these games but i think i have a read on the kind of player you are and here is my suggestion... any thing that catches your interest, like can you build a functioning dragon fly in trail makers, or can improve the bomb wheels by adding the system that catches the bombs to the wheels thus making the wheels 100%possible past the 6th notch in scrap mechanic. These are the things that people want to see i know some people want to see your take on their ideas, but that doesn't mean you're limited to that. Just observe nature, and your friends during multiplayer and draw inspiration from it. Don't be afraid to try the uncanny.

absolutely agree ... when I see requests like "the plane that unhooks a banana that turns into an opossum and then enters orbit from the bottom of the sea" I leave the violence come out of my body... but the things that I find most fun to see are those that are basically simple ... 4 propellers, a seat and fun in profusion

You can add a second spinny thingy on the bottom, one forwards and one back. You just gotta make sure they spin in opposite directions, and the centre of rotation should average out to be the middle

Campaign mode has been frustrating since they expected me to get to impossible places, (I expect they want me to be creative). the quadcopter is the answer for me, but when I tried to build one stabilizing it is a problem. This video helps, the biggest challenge, for now, is the sky. My plan so far was to do what is possible (so I basically postponed the flying parts until I'd figured out how to fix the problem)

It would be nice if you made the bigger quadcopter function the way a real one does, you could double up the engines so you can have more control over the the speed of each propeller so your controls are more accurate.

The bigger one would definitely be better for cool cinematic camera shots, since you can glide without having to focus too hard but the smaller one is definitely better for getting around and having fun. Also quad copter race? Can it be done? Kan maybe I'm just expecting him to build something extreme XD

Try attaching another set of the helicopter engines below the other ones to make the vehicle almost neutral so it doesn’t go so fast in one direction but to also add some more control ability

Aerodynamics for dummies: bigger propellers offer more surface than amaller ones, this lets them create more lift, that is, more force in the direction they are pointed to. However, the increased surface also increses drag, which means that at greater speeds, there is more force pulling you back, preventing you from accelerating further. The basic breakdown of that iss that bigger propeller will be able to pull and lift more mass and fight against more powerful forces, but with a "low" top speed due to their drag. On the other side, smaller propellers will do the opposite: less drag, higher top speed, less carrying capacity. And that was "Aerodynamics for dummies". (if there's really a book like that, i want to say I didn't look at it while writing this comment)

i believe the main difference between the 2 affecting speed and floatingness, is the small blades and spinning point are one unit thus the air resistance doesnt seem to be working properly for that, the large blades are separate from the spinning point and thus are not scripted to make lift but scripted to make lift when moved making air resistance a big deal for them thus the floatingness for the large blades. the small blades have fast speed but no float i think is due to the lack of air resistance (also making no side turn, torque). of course is just what i think from watching...

The bigger copter is slower at turning, becuase the rotating servos are too close to center of gravity. If you make the design frame more squarish, will push the servos closer to the edges, allowing for fasting spinning since it will push at the edges of gravity.
