I camped alone on Prince of Wales Island in Sept/Oct of 2016 and ate my share of Pilot crackers! To me they taste a lot like the crackers you get in MREs. It was a great midnight snack with hot tea. That trip was the first time I got the see the Northern Lights while sitting beside a campfire.

sailor boy costs more in the lower 48 states because almost all of interbake's single production facilities pilot bread production goes to 1 or 2 wholesalers who ship it to alaska, so amazon or whomever has to buy it from those 1 or 2 wholesalers and they bump up the price dramatically. the local price here in seattle is about $8 per box at some safeways and qfc's but not all stores carry it. the best place to get it is around the ballard neighborhood due to the closeness of fisherman's terminal.

These can now be found on various sites for sale in the lower 48. I eat them all the time. Theyre like the love child between hard tack and saltines. Hard tacks shelf life, and a bit of toughness, but you can actually eat them without needing to see a dentist afterward.
