For this Japanese food and sushi tour, I was on the Best of Tokyo Food Tour with David from The Hungry Tourist. His tours are one of a kind and focus on deep high end food!

NOTE: In saying "Best Sushi in Japan", I'm not saying this particular restaurant is the best sushi in Japan, but that the sushi journey, from Tsukiji fish auction, to the middle man who the best sushi chefs in the world get their tuna from (where we visited), to the omakase style of eating sushi - it's the entire process that's the best in the world of sushi.
We started off by going to the Tsukiji Fish Market tuna auction, that takes place early in the morning. The famous fish market is the biggest tuna auction in the world, and the best tuna that you get just about anywhere in the world for top end sushi restaurants comes through Tsukiji Market. We met up with Sushi Master Hiro Sato, who brought us around the market and took us to the Tuna King (Yamaguki), who is known for buying tuna and reselling on the best tuna to the best of the best of sushi restaurants in Tokyo.
It was fascinating to have an opportunity to visit Tsukiji Market for the fish auction, and to see the tuna being sliced in front of your eyes.
Sushi Arai (鮨 あらい) - For dinner, we had reservations a t one of the best restaurants in Tokyo for sushi, a restaurant called Sushi Arai. Our Best of Tokyo food tour had the entire 8 seater restaurant to ourselves, and it was pure joy to watch the chefs as they assembled each mini plate of food. Then it was time for sushi, and Chef Arai is a master, he literally just flies with his hands, gathering the fish in one hand and the ball of rice in the other, combining each bite with wasabi and molding them together. This was one of the best sushi experiences I’ve ever had in my life, and the quality, balance, and perfection of the sushi, is next level.
Price - About 34,000 JPY ($300) per person
It was an amazing day of learning about the best sushi in Japan, both from the Tsukiji Market auction side, and the distribution of the tuna, all the way to eating at one of the top luxury sushi restaurants in Tokyo.
Thank you to The Hungry Tourist for inviting me on The Best of Tokyo Food Tour.
I didn’t personally pay for the food in this video.

Go to Thailand and find some good Sushi restaurants. Pay about 30€ for high quality Sushi, directly fresh from the sea. I was in Koh Samui (can't recommend since its too touristic) and I had there the best Sushi of my life in a real traditional Japanese restaurant. I already ate Sushi in Hong Kong (good but overpriced), Philippines (low quality) and high class restaurants in Austria (medium quality, overpriced), nothing came close. If you generally love food go to Thailand to get the best food from all around Asia in the best quality. The best sea food in the world. 10 Euros for several fresh giant oysters directly from the fishing boat. Each about 2 big spoons (soup) of meat!. 10 Euros for most (whole) fish thats good for 2 persons. 12 Euros for a plate of the best fresh sea shrimps. 30 Euros for a huge lobster that feeds two people. 300 Euros for some Sushi :)))? Well, I guess thats the price to eat endangered species like Blue Tuna.

I think it is because if you start to make sushi at home, you start to wonder why the sushi chefs have to train so long. If you give me the ingredients, then where is the challenge? Form the rice, use a really good knife to cut the fish, put them together with some wasabi and really good natural brewed salt reduced soy sauce. I have a similar roll to make maki like in the video. Where is there please an "incredible skill"? Of you want to see real skill, watch kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnmccouderyDhdk That's a myth to let people pay absurd amounts of money. For example, a dry aged 550g porterhouse steak (pure Austrian meat) is just waiting for tonight to get a nice Sous Vice treatment, then gets seared with hot butter and served with red baked potatoes and green beans wrapped in bacon. That's about 25€ of ingredients and tastes and looks like a 60-70€ restaurant treat. I can train you to do that in half a day. And I am not a chef, trained 100% myself and my guest are always stunned "I could never do that". Yes, you can, don't let them fool you.

@@yurmamsaho Exactly. People are tripping over themselves to post a comment telling everyone how "skillful" the food is prepared. Nah, it's raw seafood and little else. It looks totally unappetizing. Yes, I realize that I gotta be wrong... but at 14:05 in the video that's what it seems to be. I'll watch the rest now, but so far it looks pretty bad.
