Putting "too much tension" on a swordfish is mostly a myth. In NZ they commonly use 20 kg of drag to fight swords and rarely pull hooks.

I had that drag almost locked down, so I definitely had the tension on em. He head shook and then weight came off line went slack and lost him 🙁 next time I’ll get him for sure!

In that bay boat you can’t tell from the helm where the line was going. He was sometimes going the wrong way and I hand to make sure I was on top of the fish. Besides that reel is way to small for Swordfish but I got er done! Too bad we lost it 🫣 thanks for watching! Appreciate the love 🥰

so sad for you but that's what happens when you put too much pressure on a swordfish, they'll definitely stall... you're not fighting with a tuna so there's no point in going full throttle, in in any case your captain is excellent, he did a good job, good luck next time!

@@TwinLucky06 I had no choice I saw the bottom of the spool! The heat needed to be on! Next time I’ll be ready with a bigger reel
