Here’s the thing I don’t think people are seeing for Disintegrators in AdMech. It’s 195 pts. For 3 Lascannon shots. Meanwhile, you can take 3 lascannon shots (that have twin linked, sustained hits, AND +1 damage) for 150 pts in Balistarii. That can also fallback and shoot and can also get that techpriest 4++. Disintegrators are still wildly overcosted and Balistarii are still absolutely without a doubt the main AV for AdMech.

Oh yeah Disintegrator is a non-choice if anyone actually thinkgs about it. Silly ideas like adding a techpriest to it, as if raising its points total to nearly 250 was the solution to solve its lack of 4++ and bad firepower. Dunerider is legitimately the better alternative, blocks charging units just as well, and retains its anti-chaff weapon which deals more damage than a 10 man squad of Rangers while only costing 80pts. Likewise the Onager is less offensive, 140pts is too much for it, but at least it's more tanky than the Disintegrator without needing a medic tax, and it has a larger base, so it's perfect to throw at the frontline to block charging units from reaching your Breachers - your opponent can ignore Onager's pitiful damage, but not its size and native tankyness. I simply can't think of a single situation where I'd take the Disintegrator. He can't stand on the back throwing indirect fire, because you'd be wasting his other 2 weapons (which you pay for), and he can't be in the front with zero invul saves (neither should you take a techpriest, 195pts is ridiculous already). He doesn't fit in any niche.
@VatharGuy
@VatharGuy Жыл бұрын
@@Highlaw 100% agree. AdMechs ‘heavy’ vehicles haven’t been good in a very long time. In 8th Onagers used to be decent with their ‘shield link’ and firepower on the Icarus Arrays. But since 9th the only vehicle worth bringing has been the Balistarii. I really want to see a return of the detachment that lets you revive Kataphrons in exchange for servitors. Also, Breachers not having a 5++ or at least a 2+ save is really dang rough. Whole of AdMech really needs some help in a major way, from points to straight up rules rewrites. Doctrinas are pitifully bad now. Tech priests (the main point of the army?) are nigh useless and Canticles (The whole armies focus for a long time now) are linked to Cawl exclusively? What? Also why is an enginseer the only one who knows how to repair now? Ugh. Rant.

Admech just has anti synergistic rules and massive down tuned rules for all models because of our battle line "buffs" Ballistari were the back bone of 9th edition admech and now being a bs4+ and 1 shot is a 50pt model who hits 50% of the time... Only benefit they have is their durability, 2 of them are 14 wounds with a 5++ that you park on a point and because they can never fall beneath 1/2 strength they never have to make command phase battleshock tests. Imagine having a weapons platform so bad as a platform it makes more sense to use it as a point holder than a gun platform.

imperial guard tanks are overcosted for what they do compared to most other faction's tanks. I mean, there's an immediate comparison there with SM and guard as the first two. the gladius is only negligibly weaker in toughness and wounds, has the marine 3+ ballistics skill, and has access to the massive array of SM buffs to make sure almost every rolled dice goes through. it does all this while being 50-75 POINTS CHEAPER than a russ. it feels like for some reason russes have been priced like they're some kind of super-elite unit or something. like gw forgot that all (most) of the scary guard guns will never hit on anything better than a 3+ and that's before the COs all get sniped or focused down. in fact, the guard's weapons themselves aren't really that scary, relatively. at least anything short of a superheavy's main guns. we're supposed to have quantity to make up for it but the tanks just aren't priced for it.
@tajj7
@tajj7 Жыл бұрын
Yeh they are. If you notice what they have done the points cost seems to scale with toughness/save/wounds without fully accounting for mobility and firepower, because like the T9/10 toughness stuff is more around the 150 and then the stuff like Land Raiders seem overcosted at 275, with like Leman Russ in the middle for about 200. But then the logic doesn't apply to like monsters, some really tough high wound monsters are not that expensive and they have far more capability than many tanks, and then you have stuff like a Redemptor Dreadnought is 225 points, it has T10 with a 2+ and 12W, but it us more expensive than a Leman Russ that is T11 with 13 wounds, so a Leman Russ IMO doesn't look overcosted compared to a Redemptor Dread or a Land Raider, but looks overcosted to a fire prism or gladiator lancer.

To be honest, I think the Astra Militarum Tanks are some of the most balanced in terms of price(artillery not so much). Tanks should be tough and deadly, but also with a price point to match. So it is the other factions that need to be a bit more balanced in the same way.

It has the most offensive profile of our 2 options however, the onager with 55 pts less has the option for a built in -1 to hit, and a 4++, and it ignores 4" tall terrain, so its movement even though is 2" less is arguably much faster.

For the Tau, I think the Hammerhead is the best tank. With the Ion Cannon and Lethal(either through Longstrike or an Observer with "TUD"-Enhancement), it is such a great multi-purpose tank. It still has 2 One Shot Seekers, and it gets a +1 to hit against monsters and vehicles, which combined with Commander Shadowsun, makes it very reliable. Strongest setup is having Longstrike give it Lethal in the Command phase, have Shadowsun nearby to allow it to reroll all 1s to hit, and then have the Observer be a Stealth team for that reroll all 1s to wound. This leaves you one reroll to wound from its special ability. With BS3+ from FtGG, +1 to hit vehicles and monsters, lethal and sustained hits2, rerolling 1s, and the number of shots it can fire at decent range, it is quite the monster killer, metal or flesh. A cheaper point cost also means overall less of a loss, if it does get focused down on turn 1 or 2. The Skyray has a stronger "anti-heavy" profile, with its "renewable" 3 Attacks Seekers per turn, but its special ability vs fliers are yet more rerolls, which can be redundant(1s and 2s will miss). It does not get a +1 to hit vs vehicles and monsters, so is a bit more unreliable. And it has far less damage potential against something Elite Infantry. Its initial Alpha strike is also a bit weaker compared to the Hammerhead. Crisis Suits have awesome firepower, but are also rather fragile to even small arms fire and especially plasma weaponry, and the minimum cost for a unit is 195. Also, its most potent weapon(CIB) has a relative short range of 18" and Hazardous when using it at full power(every overcharged CIB fired is a Hazardous test). Broadsides have decent power, but are slow and somewhat expensive. Their firepower is good, but single purpose(anti-heavy), and you kind of need 2 models for enough reliable alpha to take out things like Transports in 1 turn. So that is 220 points. Their durability is also a bit weird. They have a decent amount of wounds(especially with Shield Drones attached) and good save, but at toughness 6, they are still quite vulnerable, especially to plasma weaponry and most medium weaponry like Krak Missiles and Autocannons. A unit of 2 Piranhas(110 points) have overall better survivability, much better Alpha strike potential, much better mobility, and about the same anti-tank capability. The downside is the range(those fusion blasters need super close range to be effective).
@Skitch213
@Skitch213 Жыл бұрын
So, if I'm getting this right... the hammerhead in your estimation is the best Tau tank but only if you invest 145pts into the model itself, then another 170pts for Longstrike, 140pts for Shadowsun and a minimum of 75pts for a stealth suit team? That's a total investment of 530pts invested into making your one hammerhead decent.and all for the sake of some more reliable S7/S8 shots which also include the hazardous keyword on the higher profile. I dunno about you, but if you have to invest more than an extra 200% pts of what the tank is originally worth to make it good, then it probably isn't good. I'd rather take 3 broadsides and a couple Tetras for fewer points and fire 6 railgun shots and shedload of missile with full re-rolls to hit.
@fendelphi
@fendelphi Жыл бұрын
@@Skitch213 I did say "Strongest setup". It is not a requirement for it to be strong on its own. You can be efficient with less. And other elements can benefit as well, depending on what is needed for the situation, and have firepower of their own. It is not like Longstrike is just 170 points of "lethal to 1 Hammerhead". You will most often have Shadowsun regardless, due to the support effects and decent firepower(she is also an excellent Observer should you need it, as most of her things hit on a 2+ anyway). And if you want to capitalize on the aura, you want something that can move along with her. Crisis Suits and other 10 movement vehicles. You only get 2 options for Lethal, and one of them requires an Enhancement and to act as an Observer. Longstrike can provide it in the command phase, which frees up options. You will most likely have Stealth Suits in your army regardless, due to their ability to deny enemy deepstrikes at key locations(most often cant deploy within 9"), the teleport homer and, of course, the more consistent wound rolls when acting as an Observer. Longstrike+Hammerhead cost less than a 6 model Crisis team(without commander) and the points you save could be used for an extra Stealth Suit group of 3 models. It has better long range fire power and better anti-vehicle weaponry(total of 4 Seekers), is far less vulnerable to plasma weaponry and small-arms fire, and the spotter and lethal is already included in the price. You speak of 3 Broadsides, a unit of Tetras "and a load of missiles". Missiles from where? If you stick with the Heavy Rail Rifles, the only missiles you have access to is the 1 One Shot Seeker you can get on each Broadside suit, +Missile drones(range 30"), if you do not mind fewer wounds. Also, they have poor mobility, so it is relatively easy to LOS them to avoid their big shots or the FtGG combo(since both the Observer and the Guided need to be able to see the target). They also have poor performance against infantry, unless you get a lucky Devasting hit with a good damage roll. And since Tetras only reroll the hit, not the wound, shooting at infantry is horribly inefficient for them. The point is, the Hammerhead, on its own is a fairly powerful and reliable tank, at a decent price. It has good synergy with various other Tau elements, and because of this, can engage a variety of threats. It has enough turn 1 Alpha to potentially knock out an enemy vehicle on its own(2 Seekers plus either Railgun or Ion Cannon), and enough mobility to move up and support your other elements around objectives. It is fairly resistant to small arms and medium weaponry, and even 1/3 of the heavy anti-vehicle weaponry will fail to wound(rather than 1/6), something that is not true for the Broadside Suits or Crisis Suits. Crisis has the benefit of a 4+ Invulnerable save and good mobility. Broadside has single focus firepower, but are weak to the same.
@Skitch213
@Skitch213 Жыл бұрын
@@fendelphi Broadsides are our most efficient anti-armour with Tau and that's just how it is. The hammerheads require too much support to be effective and are out-classed by Broadsides in an anti-armour role, and out-classed by Crisis Suits in anti-everything else. You seem to have some over-reliance on things like Lethal and Devastating, which while important are fairly moot if your argument boils down to "I'm fishing for 6s." As for 'the broadsides I speak of', with 3 models, you're getting 6 attacks with their railguns, then your choice of 3 plasma rifle shots (w/ Twin-Linked) or 9 SMS shots (also Twin) along with an extra 12 S7 Missiles from the drones because... Why wouldn't you take them? They're free, and they're S7 AP-2 D2 which is comparible to the Hammerhead's Ion Cannon albeit less accurate - which is where the tetras come in. Broadsides have plenty of strength on their weapons for the majority of targets and wounding things has never been much of an issue with Tau in my experience. Hit re-rolls are far more important in my estimation when even with markerlights you're still missing half the time, and Shadowsun's re-roll 1s aura doesn't account for those pesky 2s. One could also argue that a couple units of Tetras giving full re-rolls to hit is better than Shadowsun because it plays more into your fishing for 6s playstyle given that you could pick up everything that isn't a 6s and fish again. I've never had any issues with broadsides' movement being too low either. Get them into position early and keep them there the rest of the game. They don't need to be particularly mobile when you've got crisis suits and speeders taking up those roles. It's also far easier to get cover on your broadsides and keep your 2+ saves for longer, so despite the T6, I'm finding them to be very tanky. In terms of pure efficiency, I just think that throwing everything into a hammerhead with an ion cannon and investing more than a quarter of your overall points in a 2,000pt game is a bad idea particularly since the Hammerhead has the durability of a wet paper bag. 24W at T6 with a 2+ and easy cover is just better than 14W at T10 with a 3+ sv Edit: Also, for the cost of 1CP, you can also give your broadsides a 6+ FNP for even more durability. T6 really isn't that big a drawback.
@fendelphi
@fendelphi Жыл бұрын
@@Skitch213 That is actually not true. Your most efficient anti-armor is probably Piranhas, a Hammerhead with a Railgun(almost guaranteed 7+ damage vs vehicle or monsters, except for Inv), or for a bigger investment, 3 Crisis Suits with Plasma Rifles/Fusion Blasters. For Broadsides to be "efficient", you need to models working together, so that is 220 points. 2 Piranhas cost the same as a single Broadside. They bring a total of 4 Seekers(which can all be fired at once) and 2 Piranha Fusion Blasters(Melta4). They are fully capable of destroying a vehicle on turn 1, then proceed to hunt down others on following turns, easily paying for their cost. They do not rely nearly as much on deployment location or Turn 1 advantage as the Broadsides do, and your opponent cant really hide easily from them either due to the mobility. They even have arguably better survivability with Tougness 7(are only wounded on a 3+ rather than a 2+ from Las Cannons and the like) and a total of 14 wounds to go through, with the potential of overkill sink(decent chance of 3 Las cannon shot only killing 1 model and not wounding the other). 3 units with 2 models in each cost the same as 3 Broadsides, but can, at a decent success rate, knock out 2-3 vehicles on turn 1. Broadsides, not so much. Unless you split them up into 3 units of 1, your FtGG makes it impossible for effective split fire, and they will have issues with LoS. Now, your most "reliable" anti-tank tool might be Heavy Rail Rifles(you do not have a lot of strength 12+ weaponry as Tau, outside of Seekers). As long as your opponent wanders out into the open, they will continue to lay down fire as long as something is in front of them, or until the Broadsides are killed themselves by strength 6 weaponry or cheeky deepstrikes with plasma weapons on rapidfire. If 3 model Broadside unit takes Plasma Rifles, you need an enemy within 24". Smart Missiles and Missile Drones can engage within 30". Which means your best engagement range goes from 60"(48 is a common engagement range for many tanks) to 30" or less. So you have no coverage for roughly half the board(unless you play combat patrol). And even if something wandered within that range, FtGG and Splitfire are not good friends, so some of the weapons will be very ineffective. What I am saying here is that Broadside's performance relies on those Railguns and your role is to take down enemy heavies. Not secondary weaponry plinking ineffectively at targets. If you want to engage within 30" of the enemy(and all that return fire. Yikes), then switch out the Rails for the Missile racks and go all in. At least you would stand a decent chance of getting some value that way. And without Shield Drones, you will lose a Broadside model to an average of 2 wounding Las cannon shots, rather than 3. Or just 4 Overcharged Plasma Gun Wounds. 3 Auto Cannon wounds is all it takes as well. Bonus round A single Broadside model is unreliable in terms of damage output. Even if you hit and wound with both shots(which is less than 50% chance, btw, even when hitting on a 2+ and wounding on 3+), it is still a roll of a d6+1 damage, so even an average total of 9 damage for both shots is not enough to kill most vehicles. Luckily, they do get the option for a single Seeker as well to help out, but that is only good for one turn. So, 3 chances to deal damage(2 from Heavy Rail Rifle, 1 from Seeker) vs 4 chances to deal damage(Piranha Seekers). With 2 Broadside models, you have a reasonable chance of knocking out a vehicle each turn, as long as there are no other factors. I have not brought up Devastating Wounds, because not only are you still capable of rolling low on the damage(down to a minimum of 2), it is more likely for a regular wound to be absorbed by an Invulnerable save or a cover bonus, than to score a Devastating Wound that ignores it. If the Broadsides survive until turn 3, you might get some high spikes in damage output if they roll a critical hit. But to be honest, by turn 3, you should have killed most enemy vehicles anyway, and finishing off a damaged vehicle with 2 extra Railgun shots is kind of pointless when it would have died on the hit that triggered the crit. Back to the Hammerhead. Hammerheads do not "require too much support". You would want to guide your Broadside/Hammerhead either way, to make the shots more reliable when dealing with a priority target. The Hammerhead gets a +1 to hit against vehicles and monsters, and can reroll either a hit or wound each turn, which means it does not rely on "stationary" for accuracy like the Broadside does. Also, I find it funny that you have an issue with "fishing for 6s" when that is litterally how you use the Kauyon. You roll enough dice at a target to get some crits and in return gets even more dice. Tau is supposed to thrive when combining various abilities from different units, so why deny it? Lethal allows you to bypass a lot of your issues with low strength weaponry as well. A few, high powered shots will hit very hard when they do get the Sustained Hits bonuses, but happen very rarely and can lead to massive overkill. In other words, they are not really efficient. Multi-attacks with decent damage and penetration, on the other hand, thrive with Sustained hits and Lethal. Again, there is a reason why 2 of the 4 Enhancement focus on Crit effects. Against a single model, the Ion Cannon fires an average of 6 shots(4-9). Which means, on average, 1 Critical hit. With reroll 1s and hitting on 3+(2+ if vehicle or monster), that means, on average, 7 hits and 1 Lethal. Wounding on a 5+, you average 2 wounds. So your opponent has 3 wounds to save at -2. Which means, on average, 3-6 damage. And that is the Ion Cannon alone, and without rerolling 1s to wound from Stealth Teams or the one reroll they have innately. You could be looking at 6-9 damage. Then we add the Seekers. Basically the same damage profile as the Heavy Rail Rifles, but with higher Strength and less AP. Which means, that, for one shooting phase, you basically have a Broadside strapped to your Hammerhead. Hitting on a 2+, wounding on a 3+. If you havent spent your reroll to wound, the odds are good for both of them wounding. Which also means good odds for 1 of them to go through any saves. And that was in the "anti-vehicle" role. Something it is not "superb" at, but pretty decent and reliable at, especially on Alpha strikes. But then it also has pretty decent anti-infantry and anti-elite capabilities. Against a 10-man Tactical Squad(T4, W2, SV3+), with Sustain2 and Lethal, exclusive Seekers, it can take out 4 models on average. Against something like Terminators, you can Overcharge and still kill about 3 models on average. Against something like a 20-man squad of basic infantry(not ideal target, as you have other units for that), you can kill 13-15 models fairly reliable as well(poor armor and 1 wound models, vs burst cannons and blast weapon). A 3 model Broadside unit does indeed have better damage vs 1 enemy vehicle/monster, but is inflexible and expensive. Even if you load them up with Missile Drones and Smart Missiles, it does not make them better Tank killers, and they cant split fire effectively either, unless you dont mind 3+ to hit for main weapon, and 4+ and 5+ for secondaries.

My main takeaway so far is the the primaris tank, in the gladiator lancer, is absolutely insane, well beyond it has any right to be. More strength than any non-titan has toughness, heavy can get it to 2+, built in re-rolls, good ap, solid damage (and damage re-roll), and it still has plenty of additional guns to fight other targets well. I suppose the metric wants the "tank" to actually be from the army for the purpose of the video, but the general consensus for Death Guard seems to be that the best "tank" for the army is actually War Dog Brigands. Unlike the PBC, they dont require Mortarion and a Lord of Virulence just to function. They're faster, same toughness, same wounds, better OC. Only things the pbc has on it are Nurgle's Gift, a save better by 1, and better leadership by 1. The brigand is better into pretty much everything and costs 25 less pointd, without requiring other units.

I think they had the record for being the least dated before their update last year (or was it 2021?) Yeah, it's more than likely to happen. I mostly want them because I like the models though, I doubt I'll even be playing any 40k in the near future, anyway. Also, just started a Tau army as well, ha ha. I think they are probably one of the worse factions right now. I don't start armies based on what they are like in game any more, just stuff I'm into. From what I experienced these days, the rules change so often anyway, you'd never get the army done before the rules changed on you anyway. Made a couple of mistakes with buying stuff for armies based on them being strong, and then ended up with the armies getting nerfed. I mean I liked the minis, but that wasn't the focus of why I was buying the army. Wasn't a great feeling. So now I just get into whatever I think looks cool, and will work with a base idea I have. I swear I get more into base design all the time. Gotta have a sick base.

@aprinnyonbreak1290 Жыл бұрын
Eeeeeh. If you're going with Custodes, they can already basically kill anything you'd want to throw a knight at, for equal points, except they have ObSec ect, core buffs ect. You probably want better chaff, chaff clearing, and backline objective monkeys *cough SoS cough*. AND if you're looking at Knights, look at the Telemon Dreadnought instead, which is basically just a Knight, except solid gold, fabulous, and can turn a good chunk of Knight equivalents inside out with their Caestus, and benefits from all your rules. An Inquisitor and some Acolytes, or an Eversor aren't bad, they won't even disrupt your Battle Forged, and occupy some nice niches, especially if your Inquisitor is a Psyker, as they should be. Honestly some IG heavy gunline might not be a bad idea; the normal weaknesses of Basalisks for being glowing targets and the like are sorta mitigated by the fact that the glorious bananas are STILL probably more immediately threatening, giving them some time to focus down worrying things on the enemy line, and aren't as expensive/are easier to fit as knights. The main thing to be wary of when splashing into Custodes, is disrupting your defensive profile. Custodes by default don't have many ways for bog standard guns, or even anti-meq/primaris profiles to make point value, besides SoS who probably are on surgical missions, and while a Custodes is definitely a good target, there ARE probably enough of them that dedicated anti-vehicle weaponry can only thin, not really destroy them. Custodes are great at making a lot of weapons get used inefficiently, giving those weapons ideal targets to make points back has to be minded. It's not a disaster, just keep in mind that those Ork Shoota Boyz or Guardians or something now have targets they actually want to shoot, instead of shrugging and chipping a single wound off a banana or something.

I would have to argue that the Repulsor Executioner might be stronger than the Gladiator lancer (and maybe one of the strongest in 10th). Since it can also be used for a transport, if you put a Techmarine in it with a 5 man squad (Not leading the squad. Techmarine gets lone operative within 3" of a friendly vehicle) inside it, it can be healed D3 per command phase and can get a buff to its guns, it can take multiple objectives by dropping a squad off, and being able to cover them with 2 shots at 72" range with S16 -4 AP DMG D6+4 (heavy laser destroyer). It has the HOGC, Twin Heavy Stubbers, A heavy stubber, Twin storm bolters and the repulsor Defensive array. all together its like 35+ extra shots. It has T 12 and 16 Wounds. Ive been lucky enough to get one ( theyre sold out everywhere near me and online) and its done some serious work on the tabletop. Almost no vehicle can stand in my way and no Dreadnought/Terminator squad cant get close enough without getting shredded as soon as the tank sees them. With the added Techmarine. Its too good sometimes against hordes/larger squads and vehicles/walkers.

I am not 100% sure on this, but I think units in transports lose access to all special abilities and effects until they are back on the board(not in the transport). If the transport has Firing DeckX, you can pick 1 ranged weapon from each model in transport to fire in the shooting phase, using any abilities that are available to the vehicle, and that is about it.

@@fendelphi when you deploy the 5 man, you can deploy the techmarine as well. That’s when the buffs come into play. I forgot to mention that

@@MegaADLER77 So on turn 1, if the techmarine and 5 man squad is embarked(from the start), you move up to an area and disembark. You have to wait until your next turn before you can provide the repair/buff. On turn 2, after the buff is provided in the command phase, if you want to embark and move on, you once again, wont be able to use the ability on turn 3(as you are still embarked on turn 3 command phase). Alternatively, you deploy disembarked next to the vehicle on turn 1, buff during the command phase, them embark and move up. This will, potentially, give you more uses out of your techmarine, but you will not have any buffs on turn 2, where you would otherwise be in optimal range for most of your weaponry. Anyway, it is 300 points for the combo(not counting the 5 man squad), it has somewhat short range weaponry(most are effective at 24 or less) and it does have a weakness of dealing with elite infantry in cover, but other than that, yeah it has awesome firepower. It will cut through hordes of low tier infantry.

i only see better units, cheaper than leman russes (all variants) with better damage and with invul save :/ now i understand. . . why is so hard to win as an imperial guard player

Because you already have Leman Russes. Buy your new models and you can win again.

Repulsors are such giant disappointments, way too generalized and honestly annoying to shoot with due to the amount of guns. Making numaris hover tanks was a mistake.

I personally would not mind having range on the presentation. I understand it does not matter in most cases, but still.

I would hope that the Caladius gets nerfed. It does not feel right to have such good anti-vehicle/monster stuff, in an otherwise strong army. Saying that as a 'toad player. I know that Tacoma was won with some other BS (the assassin/arbites stuff), but that imho does not mean that the Caladius is not undercosted. While I would prefer if it would not exist at all (and if the army would be more or less completely infantry based, with transport and dreads), but given thats not the reality we live in, I think it would be a fair thing not to have one of the strongest infantry -and- best anti-tank (by cost-value).
