I had no idea the hooks varied. I love the magnet. That would be so helpful.

Tapes should be treated as consumable items. They all go bad at some point. Also you left out the two best tapes ever- Tajima and Fastcap.

@@geoffreywarburton5487 thanks for the suggestion. We will have to add them into the next round of testing.

pulling a tape out straight, repetitively isn't where most tapes fail. for me it is a twist in the tape that causes it to easily buckle and fall when trying to measure something while holding the tape out horizontally. a better experiment, in my opinion, would be to extend the tape, unsupported a few feet and tilt the body of the tape measure until it buckles and falls. 1) you could get a measurement on how rigid each tape is out of the box. but also, with repetition, how long does it take to put a permanent bend in the tape that would make it difficult to use. Most every job i have had (construction to machining) a large hook is a hinderance. the hook will not allow the tape to fit into any tight spaces. Fancy hooks are a gimmick. i actually have one stanely where i took the hook to a grinder. I can use that tape for really tight spaces. auto lockers. i bought one, and i wanted to burn it in a fire, day one. out of the box the lock was weak and would easily slip. it made it super difficult to take any measurement while pushing against the hook. i thought maybe they have gotten better, but every once in a while someone hands me one of those pieces of shite.....unusable. ANY tape that has a clusterf*ck of all of the fractions......stop. that goes in the fire. learn your stupid fractions that we all learned in the 4th grade. most (not all) of the younger guys i have worked with don't have a clue how to read a tape at first. i see them with these tapes, and they are clueless without it. Magnets suck in any sort of space where you have metal chips. so most metal workers would not want anything to do with it. so its a gimmick. never have i wished for a magnet on the end of a tape whether i was measuring ferrous metals or not. I have used fat max's for many years. not perfect by any means. i have tried a number of other tapes to only be disappointed. Though i will have to check out that lufkin, they have been a solid measuring tool company for a long time. I have a few of their old tools that i use on a daily basis and they don't quit. also i really like the markings, light on the black looks cool and easily readable.

@@defcud one of the reasons why we did this testing is the amount of frustration we have had with measuring tapes over the years!
