I'm actually currently playing Crystal Legacy as this video was made. This was my team for the main story: Redneck (Typhlosion) Beacon (Ampharos) Guts (Heracross) Tyrant (Tyranitar) Alucard (Crobat) Derp (Quagsire)/King Koopa (Blastoise) (I switched Quagsire for Blastoise near the end of the game because I wanted to use another starter) When I got to the postgame, I wanted to switch my team up and had to replace a few mons. These were the mons I got during postgame: Dragnforce (Charizard) Blitzkrieg (Raichu) Aqua (Vaporeon) Aurora (Lapras) Mob (Alakazam) IronMantis (Scizor) Frieza (Mewtwo)

Crystal Legacy isn't a difficulty hack. It has a hard mode if you want more of a challenge but it functions more as a reimagining to make Crystal the best version of itself. I've been following it's development on Smith Plays channel. I HIGHLY recommend it or his Yellow Legacy room hack. Also best part is all Pokemon are available to catch. So you can complete the dex.

Pretty much - fixing inconsistent difficulty is one of the goals of the hack, but that does not, in itself, make it a Difficulty Hack. It still feels like something Nintendo might come out with themselves. That is VERY different from the "I hope you like strategic team-building to deal with 6-mon teams from the word go" style that most self-proclaimed Difficulty Hacks tend to present.

I just think it shares enough attributes with a difficulty hack that certain relevant factors (e.g., the need to effectively teambuild) carry over. Since one of those is the point of the video, it’s not absurd to call it a difficulty hack. But no, crystal legacy isn’t a difficulty hack based on a plain reading of the term.

Tester and Admin for the Game. Im really glad you played and I hope you enjoy. I typically found that Houndoom makes you really reconsider just auto choosing Typhlosion. Girafarig is always a based choice because its typing and stat spread are really strong for this region. The other option I would have considered is Scizor over Heracross Bug typing is very good in gen 2 when you give it good stab and Scizor gets the benefit of steel typing. Its caught in national park, cut is bug type stab, twineedle is buffed, it gets agility and swords dance, and Metal Coat is sold after Radio Tower. Scizor can wipe or take on most of the elite 4 by itself when used properly. Thanks for playing and great video.

I totally agree with scizor being an absolute beast. I was going to use heracross, but I really like scizor. Turned out that he’s so strong, has many resistances, and is nearly unstoppable with agility/miracle berry.

Scizor was one I heavily considered using but never got around to using. I also second guessed my starter choice when I saw Houndour available early.

Cut was actually changed to bug-type with a high crit rate (basically a bug-type Razor Leaf). This, along with some swapped team members in some boss trainer's teams made Meganium really shine for a bit in Crystal Legacy

I’m playing through this game right now and my current team is : Meganium since this is the best game to use it in Houndoom bc I’ve always wanted to use it in Johto Same with Kingdra Heracross because it gets good moves And Alakazam and Golem because I can use trade evos by level up Loving this game, definitely the most fun I have ever had in Johto

I personally used Meganium/Kiwi for Grass damage,Leech Seed and Poison Crobat/Gambler for Flying and Flying stab along with Poison if Meganium isn't enough Golem/Pebbles for Ground and Rock damage which is all it needed really Houndoom/Cerberus for Fire and Dark damage Slowbro/Waddles for Water and Psychic damage while also being a tank Scizor/Rusty for Bug and Steel stab along with the Cut hm because it's Bug now and it worked great, I had a ton of fun. 100% recommend this ROM Hack.

I've been playing through Crystal Legacy and my core team has been Houndoom, Lanturn, Girafarig, Misdreavus, Crobat, and Heracross/Scizor. Heracross I got earlier, and Scizor I started using later. I boxed my Quilava as soon as I got a Houndour. I really wanted to use Pokémon that were from the 100 new Johto ones, so that's what I built my team around and I really like what SmithPlays did to make so many Johto Pokémon more viable. Some others I've used sometimes are Umbreon, Kingdra, thick club Marowak, Lapras, Golem, Alakazam, Ampharos, and Gligar. Crystal Legacy is awesome, I don't know if I can go back to vanilla Crystal after this.

Currently running my own Crystal Legacy (dual type starter mod), and i don't know if you saw this or not, but Smith and his team made the middle of the game (gyms 5-7) scale to your badge count. I'm through Pryce as my 5th gym with Typhlosion, Heracross, Alakazam, and Feraligator as my current Nuzlocke team. I've been nearly wiped on four separate occasions 😅

Also one of my favorite things about this hack is it’s not intended to be a difficulty hack, just to improve Gen 2 to the games they always could have been. It does make the game harder by giving enemies more options to utilize but that’s not the sole purpose

Im halfway through a hardcore Nuzlocke of this hack, and I cant recommend Houndoom enough. She saved our whole team on more than one occasion, is easily accessible, and learns a ton of great moves. (I picked Totodile)

I just played this rom hack with a mono grass team on their hard setting. The level caps made the game extremely difficult in some places but it always felt fair. I couldn’t get any ice or electric moves for lance which made him the hardest champion fight I have ever fought as the level cap to start the elite 4 is set to 50 and lances team is around 55. It still feels like crystal though

Another change i liked is that he made the starters duo type when they evolve. Totodile becoming dark when evolging, Cyndaquil becoming ground,and chikorita becoming dragon. Them evolving with these types greatly help when making a team

Im currently playing, got 4 badges so far. But im goin for Tyranitar, Typhlosion, Espeon, Ampharos, Scizor, Red Gyarados. Typhlosion cuz its gen 2 starter Tyranitar cuz its the gen 2 pseudo legendary Espeon cuz its a gen 2 eeveeution Ampharos cuz hes key to the light house in Johto. Red Gyarados is unique to Johto and first ever seen in gen 2. Scizor is also a new steel type evolution introduced in gen 2.

No ice beam with all the dragons? There are a couple Pokemon on this list that I regret not using in my initial run, Heracross and Tyranitar. Mind you, Machamp was definitely useful, but I could've used a better dark Pokemon than trying to rely on Umbreon. Girafarig is okay, but Alakazam is still broken, even without ice punch and fire punch. Lantern is good coverage, but Starmie does it's job better; surf, psychic, thunderbolt, and ice beam feels like cheating. I can't do any Johto playthrough without Ampharos. Sure, it's slow, but it hits and electric is good against all the water types. I had trouble with having a decent flier. The best I could do for a while was Skarmory which was far bulkier than I thought and got me through some jams. At the end, I settled for Dragonite.
