Best Team for Yellow Remastered

Dang I really need to stop having trade evolutions on best teams or else I am going to have to do this every time I mess up on a best team but alas it is what it is. Hey guys, welcome back to another kanto remastered best team this time back in generation 1 with Pokemon Yellow. And yes, I did just do Pokemon Red and Blue remastered a little while back but I wanted to get this out of the way so we could hurry and get out of Kanto. But yeah, Pokemon Yellow Best Team I made some mess ups with some trade evolutions and a few other team members that I went and replaced. Pokemon Red and Blue are similar though, so if you guys see any similar Pokemon on there from Pokemon Red and Blue don't be surprised. Rather than me just explain it though, let us show you instead. I was surprised you decided not to use the in-game trades Machamp and Rhydon. At first. Then I did some comparisons, and decided that Dugtrio and Hitmonlee were probably better choices. Besides, I imagine you took some flak for using Jynx in the remastered Red/Blue video. On a side note, in order to keep Pikachu both alive and happy, I ended up giving “him” every vitamin I found during the quest. It was necessary.

Hi Mystic would ever attempt to make canon teams for each generation? I know there is no canon team as it is the player’s choice. For HG/SS my favourite starter is Totodile, however I would say Ethan’s can starter would be Cyndaquil since Totodile is better suited to Silver. Plus one of Silver’s name options is Kamon and I read somewhere that the name Kamon means or is associated with “Alligator.” Red has 2 canon teams (DS games and Let’s Go games respectively) so he is pretty much covered. What about the other game protagonists?

This team is really good and im gonna try it myself for a playthrough. The only 2 differences i personally would make is to have Hitmonlee learn mega kick instead of double edge. That would free up that TM for pikachu to have a higher damage move. Body Slam is great for paralysis but if pikachu already has thunderwave why not swoop out double edge. Actually forget Hitmonlee knowing mega kick, teach it body slam for the paralysis if it can lol. But overall great team and amazing video as always! :D

Mystic: Nidoking has a lack of Ground type moves. Also Mystic: *puts Ground type moves on Dugtrio which Nidoking can learn*.

@Nick Cruz For real, this team is way too physical oriented for Gen 1. Forgiving Pikachu (because you gotta keep the starter), Dugtrio and Hitmonlee have no business being on a Gen 1 team. Even catching a Mankey vs. a Nidoran male is a joke. Even if you don't plan on having a FULL EVOLVED POKEMON BEFORE THE 2ND GYM, Nidoran learns Double Kick at level 12 in Yellow which is not only higher accuracy than Mankey's level 9 low kick, but arguably does more damage per use (with a little luck). Dodrio I actually like, it's offbeat and is actually a good Pokemon for a flier, but again outside of HM utility you get very little out of it. Charizard si quad-weak to rock which in Gen 1 is also an issue (especially in PvP where Rhyhorn and Golem are top tier) and can't learn Fly. I'd have gone Articuno personally despite the mediocre type coverage because of how devastating FZN was in Gen 1.

also if you pick up bellsprout at cerulean and train it. you have an edge against Misty with a grass type. and you can also make use of the OP stun spore/ wrap combo. which comes in pretty early. It's an easy to get pokemon (just above the nugget bridge) and grass doesnt get a lot of damage from electric (the next gym typing) either. I think bellsprout is pretty underrated in gen 1

I used three of these Pokemon on my Let's Go Pikachu team (even having the same moves for Lapras). The only difference is I used Ninoqueen for my ground type and Hitmonchan for my fighting type (as it get's more type coverage after gen 4).

When I did my yellow run, I had pikachu, nidoking, charizard, venusaur, snorlax and blastoise. I thought it was a solid team, until I accidentally came across a staryu as I approached cinnabar island. I switched the staryu with blastoise and evolved it into starmie, and starmie was the total mvp during my battles against elite four and blue. 10/10 recommend starmie.

lapras is pretty cool. Ill give you that. and nice and bulky. but you get it relatively late (af Saffron. halfway through silph co/team rocket). And then it's level 15.. By that time you could have also trained the squirtle from officer Jenny or the magikarp at the pokecentre at mt moon (to level 20 at least) ....

@Nick Cruz not bad, but there is a lack of coverage there. Typically try to utilize every member of a team to their fullest potential, which is why I stick with Surf, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt and Psychic. Lapras is only weak to grass, fighting and electric. With that moveset, the only "threat" is electric types.

Mmm I beg to differ on the frailty against Fighting types and the damage output of Psychic Especially once natures are introduced. A good Modest Lapras will steamroll a good majority of mons, with or without high sp def. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Thunderbolt paralyze as well? Also, Lapras are more special atk oriented than physical.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever considered mentioning HM Slaves? There aren’t very many in R/B/Y, but there are a few decent ones. For instance, Charizard (only in Yellow 😭) gets Cut, Fly and Strength (plus Flamethrower or Fire Blast). Then you could use Starmie for Surf and Flash (along with Psychic and Recover). In Red and Blue, my go-to slaves are Dux the Farfetch’d (Cut and Fly, plus two other moves of your choice) and Slowbro (Surf, Strength, and Flash, plus Psychic). Why am I bringing this up? Because I’d like to see a team that actually incorporates HM Slaves as part of the main game. Sure, they may not be that great against most opponents, but that’s what the other four members are mostly for. Obviously, the Sun and Moon series are out, since there aren’t ANY HM’s, but what about the other generations? Who are your choice HM Slaves in each series?

If there’s something I learned from using this team in Pokémon Stadium (minus the fact that I don’t have Hyper Beam on Dodrio since I am not up to gambling in Pokémon), it’s the value of coverage moves. Lapras with Thunderbolt was invaluable against Misty in the Gym Leader Castle, as it was far more durable than Pikachu while also being able to hit hard. Which reminds me, you could do videos on how well your best teams do in the Pokémon Stadium games! Kanto teams for Stadium 1 and 2, Johto for 2, Gen III best teams for Colosseum and XD postgames (since trading in those games isn’t available until then), and Gen IV teams in Battle Revolution.

Snorlax also helps destroy Sabrina’s Abra-fam. Such a high Special to resist their psychic attacks, plus their pitiful defense against Body Slam helps since they have no viable type weaknesses

Nice vid Mystic, but I am a little bit confused about the fighting type choice. In yellow, you can in-game trade cubone for machoke, which then evolves to machamp. I know he's slower, but has +50 in base stats. Why not use it instead of hitmonlee?

late to the party, but I think the reason is the move pool; Machamp does not get any good fighting type attacks (Low Kick and Submission are your only STAB moves), whereas Hitmonlee has access to Double Kick, Jump Kick, and Hi Jump Kick which are all superior in comparison

The Pokémon Yellow Pikachu does not have increased stats or any sort of power up, the only difference is that it received a moveset reshuffling, which is useless. Eevee is still available in Yellow at the exact same location, and Jolteon is the best electric type in Kanto, getting Thunderbolt through the TM received from Surge ((Lapras can serve perfectly well without it)) and outclassing Pikachu in basically every single stat. Use Pikachu until Celadon and then get ready to toss it in the trash and replace it.

Weirdly if you play with only Pokemon Ash caught in the anime (and their evolutions) you'd have a pretty good team. Pikachu, Bulbasaur (Venusaur), Squirtle (Blastoise), Charizard, Snorlax, I'd use Butterfree for catching Pokemon and then switch over to Haunter (Gengar) in Lavender Town or Tauros after the Safari Zone

Get rid of focus energy for literally anything else. Focus Energy is broken in gen 1 and actually lowers your crit chance.

@@andrewnixon5657 if I had to guess I would say that it's because it was developed after R&B were already a success and they had a sequel on the pipeline so they just added that detail to incentivice trading. I checked the gamefiles myself and the starter pikachu stats in yellow are the same as any pikachu from gen 1, and friendship only makes him do a different face(that and a more hidden mood stat). I would agree that the starter pikachu is somewhat different from the other ones(in the sense that he alone possesses the friendship, mood and lightball) but that's about it
