Pro-tip : Shop for digital calipers that have an auto-off feature - it'll save you a small fortune in batteries.

Note that *most digital calipers don't actually turn off* when you turn them off (let alone when they turn themselves off). They turn the _display_ off but actually stay on so they can "remember" their position and don't require zeroing the next time you turn them on. That's why they'll run out of battery _even if you remember to turn them off._ My solution was to buy (second hand) Mitutoyo calipers, that can run on a single battery for about 5 years. Beware of fakes, though (usually not hard to spot).

6:07 - "Vernier" in "Vernier calipers" refers to the use of two visual scales to aid in identifying which of two (or more) markings is more accurate. *Digital* calipers typically do *not* have Vernier scales on them, they're just "digital calipers" (same for _dial_ calipers, which typically also don't have Vernier scales). Vernier and dial calipers have the significant advantage that they don't eat through batteries -like Carrie Fisher going through a film crew- in a few weeks, unlike pretty much any digital calipers under $50.

PS, for the USB Tester, I noticed your one is in Chinese Language mode, you can change it over to English by holding a button and plug it into power, it'll show a menu, wait for it to cycle from Chinese to English, and then let go of the button.

This is such a great selection of affordable tech! I love the idea of the HDMI EDID emulator for headless setups; it’s definitely a game-changer. Also, those USB voltage meters are super handy for testing devices! Thanks for sharing these tips!

I figured I'd leave this here because shopping for a premium flashlight can be an absolute nightmare and it took me a week of research to figure out the best brands for high performance. Most items online are garbage or have very poor design, or good design and an awful battery. So I need a nice rechargeable flashlight for work (security), and for walking pets etc. If you've shopped almost anywhere, but especially on Amazon or similar there's thousands of unbranded items with impossible specs, often in a two pack. If you need a very good flashlight get a Streamlight or a Nitecore. I personally got the Streamlight protac hl 5-x. Will blind a robber, light up half the neighborhood, or on low will light the way for 24 hours on low on one charge.
