I’m glad you liked the video and found it helpful. When you go on vacation you don’t receive any pay but you do get paid a little sum of money that builds up over your contract. This is like a vacation pot which is paid at the end of your contract. Usually most people will have more than enough money to cover their vacation period. Before you leave for vacation you usually are already offered a new contract with when you date to return is as well.

You get paid a small kind of bonus at the end of your contract which is worked out from how long you have been working that particular contract. Its kind holiday oay that they withold and pay at the end. You wont get paid during your time off the ship. You wouldnt hopefully be spending too much while wokring on the ship anyway so not having money during your off time isn't normally a problem.

Hey Ash, recently found your videos and have enjoyed what I've seen. I'm planning on applying for DCL once Covid settles down a bit, and want to do as much research as I can in the mean time. One thing I've been wondering but can't find any information on is related to the 8 week vacation period crew members take in between their contracts. Is it paid vacation time or is it just simply time off?

Hey mate, I'm glad you have enjoyed the videos so far. With the time off period, you don't get paid while on vacation but you do get a little bonus payout which is worked out based on your contract and the number of days you worked. That is good to help cover over the time off. When on the ship its always good to think of vacation and put a little away as well although you don't spend much on the ship so most people have plenty for their time off. @@ashbull You are a god send good sir... Can't begin to tell you how hard it was to find an answer to that question. So I do have another question actually. Say that I'm working on DCL and I decide I want to transfer from DCL to WDW, what's the transfer process like? If I recall in one of your Q&A videos (which have been a great resource in answering my questions btw) you mention how DCL and the parks are kind of separate with how they're managed; I'm of course paraphrasing. With them seemingly being kind of separate in the eyes of Disney, I'm just wondering if it's even possible to transfer to WDW from DCL or if I just straight up have to re-apply as if I'm not working for Disney. For context I use to work at California Adventure but had to leave to help take care of my Dad because he got diagnosed with cancer. Long story short, he has gotten better to the point where I can work at Disney again, but the living situation I'm in currently in calls for me to work on DCL so I can ultimately work at one of the parks.

How much time did it took for your whole hiring process?

It took at least around 3 months, but I postponed going on the ship as I had some other plans first so for me it was about 6 months.
