I love crazy finds like this. I once found a 4K UHD player for 5 dollars because it did not have the cables.

What a delightful find! I don't believe I've ever seen OED outside of a library before. And it's probable that you are the only family with BOTH the full and compact versions! Linn, you're truly a logophile.

Haha we like our dictionaries and have quite the collection! Maybe showing them all will be a different video.

I got mine as a free gift for signing up with the Book-of-the-Month Club in around 1979. It was the only reason I signed up; the few books I had to get as a condition of joining were far less than the retail cost.

Next edition added a third 'supplement volume . . . Then later contracted it into ONE volume. The one volume issue displays NINE pages per page. Even WITH the magnifier it's a strain to read.

I've never heard of that one, I love to collect dictionaries. I think I have about 40 or so. Including the 1938 Websters 2nd - it's huge.

People have different interests, I also wouldn't buy it, but I wouldn't question why anybody did. I also wouldn't buy 4 pairs of sneakers or watches or whatever it is you spend your money on. And I also wouldn't question why...

Online dictionaries don’t have the etymological and historical depth that the OED does, unless you pay to subscribe to … the online OED. Also, online dictionaries often don’t have a lot of older and less used words.
