Solo hiking around my favourite trails at lookouts throughout the wetland at Long Point. So many birds to see in their marsh habitat and learn about at the Long Point Bird Observatory where songbirds are caught in mist nets, banded and released. Doing so, adds greatly to the data compiled on bird species, weight, health, gender, and trends in the populations, ie. if their population is growing or declining in size.

Another gorgeous little documentary, shots are absolutely stunning as well as music choice for this episode! You are absolutely right about ducks and hunting season, you are definitely not dramatic!!

Yes! The change in the season takes away from the serenity but it was so great being there. Glad you enjoyed the video Ervin. Thanks for watching!

Looks like a terrific place to see so many birds. Shannon must miss it too given the history with her parents there. Hope you both had a wonderful summer. I'm heading out on likely my last camping trip now but look forward to catching up on your summer videos when i get back. Hope you are enjoying the warm weather there in Ont right now, colours must be beautiful. Happy travels.

Hi Jean, good to hear from you. We had a relaxing summer back at home and have been on the move most of Sept...in fact heading your way in just over a week and looking forward to it. Birding and sightseeing in Long Point was amazing. Shannon was pretty sentimental about it given her family history there. Enjoy your upcoming last camping trip of the season!

That poor juvenile Green Heron! Hope he improves with time. It was wonderful seeing you so enjoy your surroundings. You always do, but you could tell this one was special. Really happy you got to go. Thanks for sharing!

@@susanjones161 In one of the next videos, you'll see another juvenile Green Heron with laser-sharp skills...I think that's in Part 2 at Wheatley. They learn....in time. I absolutely loved being back in Long Point and so did Shannon, although she was busy showing our friend Julie the ropes for fishing spots, you didn't get to see her as much. The next 2 videos are also of very meaningful places, day trips from Wheatley with great bird action too. Thanks as always Susan, for watching, commenting and your support.

I so enjoyed viewing this great video in Long Point, ON. Great scenery, variety of birds, etc. Ps. I didn't know you rode motorcycles. I too rode for many years :)

Richard, I got a kick out of reading that we share our motorcycle-riding history! When I turned 40, my colleagues at the office where I worked for years as a financial planner were getting boats, while I set my sights on a motorcycle...haha. Glad I did...and that passion that rubbed off on Shannon when she came into my life 13 years ago so she got one too. It was fun as you know full well. Long Point is about 30 minutes away from Port Dover, ON, so we enjoyed that "short" ride to the motorcycle haven each warm-weather Friday the 13th back then. This month's (Sept 13, 2024) number was expected to be around 100K motorcycles in Port Dover with stellar weather. But that whole area along Lake Erie is so beautiful and rich with wildlife which is why we miss having the cottage at Long Point. Thanks for watching and sharing in your comments.

A very interesting part of the province. It must rank right up there with Point Pelee in terms of spotting birds. I appreciated you showing people how to help birds avoid hitting windows. How far south do the birds typically go? Does it depend on the species or how far north they were during the summer? Anyway, great video as always. 👌

Hi Daryl, migration distance and location typically can be species-dependent. Some birds only travel far enough to access open water, when our wetlands and lakes freeze, while others fly in pursuit of their insect meals. Food is the motivator for migration. I'm glad you enjoyed the beauty of Long Point and the info on the bird anti-collision window treatments...it's so important. More of that coming up so if you enjoyed the birding in Long Point, hang on to your hat. The next two videos are from our camping trip in Wheatley which includes a trip to Point Pelee and to Jack Miner Bird Sanctaury, both in that area. We are getting ready to fly out this morning to our next destination! Thanks for watching!
