I was 22 years old when I killed my first big buck. It was ten years in the making here in the PA mountains. I can remember everything from that day but the thing I remember most vividly is calling my dad with the 1 bar of service I had and telling him, barely able to talk, shaking like a bowl of jello next to the railroad tracks, that I just shot a big 12 point. He didn't hunt but he was as happy as I was. I remember the 1.75 mile, over five hour drag back to the house and falling asleep with my head down at the kitchen table from being so exhausted. I hope every hunter gets to experience something like that. It's one of my fondest memories. Thanks for a great episode!

Those drags make it all worth it. Nothing good comes easy. Reminds me of a few awful but well worth it drags!

I really enjoyed this podcast. I’ve said it before, Dan would make an excellent teacher. Speaking from experience of 20+ years teaching at higher Ed. And his ability to reflect on his growth. Just great stuff. Much appreciated.

Good stuff. I listen to all of Dan's and your podcasts trying to learn as much as I can. One of the best parts was Dan breaking down his WI hunt after IA. I heard him tell part of that story, but he had more details on this show. I think you could do more exciting podcasts just on breaking down successful public land hunts with a mature buck for the whole show...how did they get in it, use trail cams, know the area, Mobile hunt set up that day, wind, entrance and exit, thermals in that area, etc. I really enjoy a podcast when they break down the hunt with details to learn from. Remember, less jujitsu talk and more deer talk :)

Loved hearing about keeping ourselves healthy so we can continue hunting. I lost 20+ yrs of hunting due to moving to Florida. I just got back into it 2yrs ago as I had the time come around to do so. I got up to 250lbs and ate like a crazy man on a daily basis all while actually being "fat active" I went on carnivore and dropped 70lbs and rejuvenated everything in me. I feel like I'm 30's again with energy to burn. Hunting and Fishing was my motivation. It's amazing when you eat the tight way how much your aches and pains and inflammation go away...

What the hell is carnivor? Whatever it is, a diet I get that, never heard of it though. Glad it's working for you my friend. And Even happier that ur getting on with living your life!😊

Only meat 🥩 diet ! No carbs , sugars etc. How long on carnivore before you started feeling better and seei g results? Was there any tough times in beginning from withdrawal from sugars etc. And how did your process come to be ?
@stevenculver64164 ай бұрын
@Crayz919 all my inflammation was gone in 10 days. It was pretty easy to swith as I am a big fan of meat and eggs...my knees, back, hips...tendinitis all went away in 10 days. I also drink 2 gallons of water every day and have for over 20yrs due to working outside in the Florida heat every day. I was sitting at home feeling miserable and could also power a rocket with my flatulence and I said if I'm getting back into hunting there has to be something different and keto wasn't an option for me because it's harder to sustain keto than carnivore atleast for me. Many fail keto because you are still eating the stuff that makes you crave. Carnivore really didn't. I believe that drinking the amout of water I do drink helps anyone kick the cravings. Many have told me what I'm doing is unhealthy. If it's so unhealthy why do I feel like I'm in my 30's again. I will be 56 in January and I'm now 180 with energy to burn. Not many young people can keep up with me and what I do. Even when I was overweight. I used to eat massive amounts of food but now eating high fat high protein I don't have to as I'm satiated with how I eat.

You can thank THP and social media for the excessive pressure on public land. Good interview with Dan took a while to get him to open up lol maybe he’s figured out that he has a lot of ears on him. also, Dan makes an excellent point. The level of competition has risen significantly over the last few years from the amount of information available has shortened the learning curve. The Playing field has definitely been leveled and things are now coming down to who is first and who is luckiest.

The biggest buck Ive ever shot, I killed from the ground still hunting on a small public property. Never seen it before it went 14 points and 162”. It crawled out from under a buckthorn bush and I shot him. I thought it was a 130 and ‘ decent’ buck until I scored it 3 times. Talk about surprise! I love that hunt.

That's crazy! I can just see him right now crawling under the buckthorn what a sight behold. I shot my first buck this year with a recurve! I was standing in front of a giant oak tree and he walked right in front of me 7 yards away broadside. He's not a boomer but he's first buck ever! I think he would score about 140. Idk we'll have to see here!

Bro, I had my whole 29.5 PREconfigured on mathews when I walked into the archery shop. The guy said to shoot both 29.5 and 33 first. I'm totally with you on the 33 🤯

I’ve used a verifier peep sight before. I should be still using one, mine I was using I think the 2nd weakest one or so, I also wear contacts. I’ve learned at this point a fatter diameter pin and I can can get away without using it, and I keep the animal more focused than the pin and it works well for me so far. The verifier once really needed is certainly a must have.

I have learned alot from dan and think hes great at what he does and i own a beast stand.but i wish he would stop saying that killing big bucks is so simple.if its so simple why has he struggled so bad out of state other than iowa and Wisconsin,literally 2 mount rushmore states.i wish one of these podcasters would grow some and ask him why this is.

The big ones are the smartest. They know what gives them away. It's like a human. Human would mark the 4 corners of their property not their living and bedroom

lol, maybe you should practice a little more before going into the woods if you’re only accurate at ten yards bud. I don’t picture you passing a monster a little further out.
