It doesn't feel like tower defense at all. You can try Island Defense TD, it has a sweet mechanic where you create the path yourself and there is a lot of content.

I pick this up too randomly. Super fun small little game. But it’s also just that, a small simple TD game. I just finished the last area and have a few of the challenges there left but I’ve only put in about 10 hours, so it’s a great small little game.
