I love the lone Peaks for comfort and for shorter runs but as soon as you hit 30K or more you really want a max cushion shoe. Big fan of the Speedgoat for anything over 30K.

Thanks for your comments! :) I am a new runner. 93kg So I start run with HOKA arahi6. done 45km, 51km running. So love this cushion and side supports. Now think I look to the HOKA speedgoat5.

Lone Peak: I'm currently using it for short runs because you're right, I don't have to worry about blisters or any injury that results from too much foot confinement. However, I suggest against using it for race runs. I am flatfooted and I twisted my ankle so bad while wearing these because it doesn't give me the stability that other shoes provide. HOKA: the cushion is fantastic. Its lugs, however, have the tendency to keep the mud stuck, and even if you've run for a mile or two on a drier surface, it wouldn't fall off. You might say it doesn't affect your running. But it does mine because I feel the weight of it in every stride. I am surprised that neither ASICS nor Salomon made the cut. But I'm appreciative of the effort put into making this video. Please continue to do what you do. 🙂

I also have flat feet and ankle issues because of it. I am looking for a trail running shoe that's cushioned and has stability. what shoes have you tried and what do you recommend, if any? Thank you.
@mbaleva5677 Жыл бұрын
@@larrj8928 ASICS' Gel Kayano 29 is great. It doesn't have Wide sizes so I still don't use them for distances >13.1. Salomon Glide also doesn't have a wide, but its front half end is structured with enough berth to accommodate my feet. I just wore them last weekend on a 30K vertical trail run. I hope either one will also work for you. Can you tell me what you're wearing for your runs? Thanks in advance. 🙂

I bought the Brooks Cascadia 16 GTX /gore tex version and wear them as my winter runners in snow/sleet/rain. No more wet feet, and the Cascadias have a rock plate that protects from rocks and sticks. They are very rugged and stable which is what I want in the winter, speed not being an issue, just going the distance. The Cascadia16 was designed & tested by Scott Jurek, who set the world record on the Appalachian trail years past. Brooks is killing it 😁

All good recommendations, but you left out a fan favorite for max cushion available in WIDE...the New Balance "Fresh Foam X More Trail V2 (and now the new for 2023 V3 version). SPECTACULAR shoe, which I tested back to back with the Hoka and the Altra. The NB gets my time on the trails in Bend, Oregon.

Agree. These are fantastic shoes for the big distances. Love my Sportivas for shorter quicker stuff but they are too solid, too narrow and lack cushioning for big hour runs.

I’ve only multiple pairs of BROOKS & SAUCONY and they’re my to go shoe for any terrain. I’m interested in the AlTRA but they don’t seem cushioned. Are they Cushioned?
@paulnorman8274 Жыл бұрын
If you're 185lbs, and a decent share of your running is across rocky and scraggy terrain, they are cushioned and protective for 20 miles..... After 50 miles, the soles are reduced to damp tortillas. At least unless you run a lot lighter than me. Altras used to be my goto. Their fit is very accommodating. But for the past decade or so, either I have gotten older, heavier and clumsier, or they have traded off too much durability in their quest for lighter weight. I do feel the same way about many other shoes (Peregrine..), so it may partly be me. But the problem with internet influencers/testers now being so instrumental when it comes to selling running shoes (and especially trail running shoes), is that the "greatest" trail/ultra runners, who ends up dominating this influencing, are invariably 140lbs waifs, with utterly perfect and light gait across all possible terrain. Getting the recommendations which makes or breaks a shoe commercially, effectively revolves around lighter and softer/cushier at all cost. While the shoes better suited for bigger guys, are dubbed "heavy", "stiff", "non responsive" etc. Hence don't sell at all in the internet influencer world live in. Hence get dropped, or lightened until they last for two runs for even slightly bigger guys. Not a problem if you're Killian, but a bit so if you're bigger and heavier than him.

Hoka SG 5 - worst shoes I have ever worn, low heel support, almost sprained ankle, narrow toe box (really don't know for who they made this shoe, never have issues in any other), mesh holds water, worse grip in mud even it's vibram megagrip, slipping all the time, outsole structure doesn't seem to be working well, cushioning is comfortable but less feel of terain Salomon Speedcross 5 - unbeatable in mud, fits well on foot/heel but run into foot pain after 400k running in these, maybe I will try different model or wide version Altra Lone Peak 5 - medium cushioning but comfortable, great toe box, reasonable price if you find a good site, no foot or knee stress after long run, just have to get used to weat 0 drop at the beginning, maybe durability is worse but improved at least in 6 model as I followed couple thru-hikers
@markosajn5776 Жыл бұрын
Totally different experience with SG5. I must say that it's a best all around shoe i ever tried. Great narrow fit for my skinny feet, great stability compared to any salomon model i tried and great grip on everything you throw at them except deep mud but it would be stupid to use them in that conditions since they are not made for it. I use them in almost every distance up to 30k. Above that i go with Altra Olympus 4

The Altra Lone Peaks are not too roomy unless you have a narrow foot like a friend of mine has. He has the narrowest foot I have ever see and swears by NB but I have a wide high volume and the Lone Peaks are great but why not mention Topo Athletic. I somethimes think I have less foot fatigue wearing Topo Terraventure on long distance hikes (300+ miles). To me the Topo feel just like the Lone Peaks so that if I close my eyes and had one of each on my feet I would be hard pressed to know which was which. But I have to wear a half size larger with the Topo . . .

Hi, thank you for sharing this interesting video. I have no experience with this and I hope you can give me some advice. I'm not young and I weigh 84Kg. I should buy a pair of shoes that do a little for everything. These are the elements that particularly interest me: low for tropical climates (hot climates), above all light and comfortable. I go on gravel, clay, grass, mud, slippery pebbles. Am I asking too much? I DO NOT run in it with shoes. But then again, I have no experience with this. My budget is around max 150 euros. Can you tell me some exact model of any brand please? Thanks for some advice.

I loved my Asics Fuji Lyte. Awaiting my Gel Trabuco 10 in the mail, read nothing but raves for this shoe and they're at knockdown prices right now because 11 launched. I had the speedgoat 5 for some 100km and gave it to my son because he outgrew his shoes. Tbh Vibram Megagrip is overrated as it doesn't perform as well on wet slope terrains as other brands like Asicsgrip (phenomenal no slip at all, very grippy) and G-Grip (no nonsense lugs) outsole materials.

These shoes work with the Peloton bike+ (April 2022), kzbin.infoUgkxGPkov2mNjgZfG33r6Bwvies8jKE4AKZB and are of good enough quality. I have completed 10 rides so far and there are no issues. The first time trying to fit them on the Peloton bike took 10 minutes (even with the help of an experienced cyclist friend who wears the same type of cleats). It took a couple of rides to break in. After the first two rides there were no issues at all.

Altra’s lack the support in primarily their uppers, but also their soles to ever be considered a top trail shoe. As Bipeds, our proprioceptors are primarily in our heals and for this reason, it is important to have good heal/heal counter support which I have yet to see any Altra’s provide.

Never mind "running". That's a luxury people truly take for granted. My Q is out of desperation. Question: Which of your listed shoes combines: 6.5-XW / AND / wide-toebox-narrow-ankle configuration / AND / soft-neutral arch that's removable and not horribly-humpy like Hoka-Ryka (for the sake of plantarFascitis) / AND / won't irritate bunions / AND / won't further degenerate non-diabetic neuropathy that's numb-tingly / AND / won't irritate varicose upper-feet / AND / won't irritate ankle that became discolored due to a dictatorial-podiatrist who insisted on unwanted Ace-bandage?
