Best Trolling Motor for the Sundolphin Sportsman

I have same boat and the 30, you're right in the wind you're pretty much screwed. The 55 is a def upgrade.

How low should I put the motor in the water? I have the Pelican Bass Raider 10E.

Get a Kipawa prop - it will have less vibration and be quieter due to having three blades instead of two. You'll also gain a few lbs of extra thrust.

I have a 100 ah deep cycle battery how long do think I would get on the water with that trolling motor

I had the 30lb and 55lb but it was too slow for me so I got a 2.5 suzuki outboard and it pushes around 5-6 mph. I still kept the 30lb for the front for when i'm fishing and the 30 is lighter and last all day long so I don't need to carry an extra battery like I did before.

For 2.5 Suzuki outboard motor, what shaft length did you get for the tansom mount -- 15" or 20"? I just bought Sun Dolphin Sportsman and going to buy Suzuki tomorrow so any input is great. Thanks.

Actually, no. I think the infinite adjustment (no clicks) helps in that regard. So far so good. No issues.

I have this motor now and use it on a 12ft Jon and it scoots and makes a wake. I used an everstart from Walmart when I had my 30 lb thrust. That motor struggled and drained my battery when I was fighting wind. The 55 lb thrust musters through the wind much nicer but I did find the Walmart battery didn't cut it with the additional power draw. I would run it wide open all the time and required a bigger deep cycle battery from a local battery shop.

07slowbalt I agree with you 💯. It is under windy conditions that this motor shines when compared to the 30. Plus you the battery lasts longer due to the infinite controls as opposed to just five fixed speeds. The 50 is a little bit heavier though.

07slowbalt you are exactly right. It is under windy conditions that the 55 shines when compared to the 30. It will move the boat better and without consuming as much battery.

Is your boat an 8ft or 10 ft?

8 ft. That 10ft is nice too. A bit heavier so it might not be as easy to handle as the 8ft.
