You can't argue with the product quality. We had a roll over 2 years ago in our County. A one ton hauling a Arctic Fox 990. The camper remained securely mounted to the truck thanks to the Torklift frame mounts and fast guns. Am I pushing product? Absolutely if it's saving life's. The gas leak detector could also save lives, at less then 15 bucks it is a valuable tool in any tool box. Lastly You can't argue that a back up camera isn't important on a truck camper. I know first hand its hard to see, or hear emergency vehicles when they are tail gating. I don't want my channel to feel like you are watching QVC, but i thought these were good products. I don't make a dime if someone uses the links provided. I'm no cooperate stooge, im just a guy who has wasted good money buying cheep alternatives that don't work. Hopefully I can help others avoid that mistake. Thanks for watching Jim.

Great information in this video! I have a late model Chev 3500 with the 360° camera option. However, when I remove the tailgate from the truck to put on the camper, none of the cameras work. To solve this issue, I purchased the tailgate wiring harness and camera from the GM dealership. I then installed the new camera into the bumper of my truck camper and plugged it into the truck harness. All of the cameras came back to life and I now have my 360° camera view back! @KennyOfAllTrades2 жыл бұрын
Hay Lee, Winter camping is my favorite. The nice thing about winter is not many people are out. The bad thing is it's dark by 430, and that ok unless your trying to make videos. I made a play list of last year's winter camping adventures. I saw some reallly cool places. I usually film on Saturdays and Sundays and get a video out every Tuesday at 5pm central time. A lot of people follow along to see the changing of the seasons here in Minnesota. There probably not much diffrent then you see in Canada though. I hope you enjoy the Lance as much as I do my Arctic Fox. It's an older model as well, a 2004. These older rigs seem to hold up well though.

I saw a guy who took his Happyjacks off after loading and putting them in his back seat storage space. He took the bottom and back of seat and put plywood down and he had no back seat at all and if your jacks set low you might want to take the off and put behind the front seats. Good ideal if you are worried about damage or tearing them off and each Jack only has 3 nuts and a power plug so if you are getting off the road this may help your self. And I hand never seen anybody do that. Keeps jacks clean and dry and safe. Happy Camping !!!

For quite a number of years my brother was using the typical turnbuckle with length of chain that the installers put on his truck at the camper dealer but they were a pain in the butt to use if taking the camper on and off but also I believe he had issues where they would slack off, the turn buckle slowly turning and I think one of the front frame mounts tweaked a bit as well as they were a goofy design and just not strong enough. Then a few years ago he finally had enough of that and bought the torklift frame mounts and the fastguns and no they do not come cheap ( I think he bought the stainless fastguns ) and is far happier with the whole system. Oh and he put clasp pins in the fastguns !
@KennyOfAllTrades2 жыл бұрын
You are right, they are expensive. I think that's why I waited so long to get them. After running them it would be hard to switch to anything else though. I bet most of us start with old fashioned turnbuckles, or ratchet straps fastened to just about anywhere we could.
@charlesb42672 жыл бұрын
@@KennyOfAllTrades That reminds me of a full size camper my dad bought way back in the early 1970's when I was a kid and also bought a 1969 GMC 3/4 ton. Literally the camper dealer in Edmonton screwed on hooks that took two sheet metal screws each right onto the side of the truck box body for both the front and rear turn buckles. While its totally laughable and shocking to think of now, the fact is those hooks stayed put into that sheet metal and turnbuckles were standard fare back in those days, ratchet straps probably had not been invented yet. Now try that stunt with an aluminum Ford beer can box and see how that works out 😆

@@KennyOfAllTrades I really like the 992, especially the "dry bath". My camper is a base camp for my dual sport motorcycling. I get hot, sweaty and dusty while riding, so I use the shower every day. It's nice having the shower separate from everything else in the bathroom. I like the bed access better in the 811. The 992 is a little bit tight crawling into the bed, as well as accessing the wardrobe cabinets on the right side of the bed area since you have to crawl across the bed to get to them. Overall, the floor space feels about equal in the 811 and 992. I also like having an onboard generator, although I still use a portable generator at times.

Kenny, I know this video is a few months old, but it's very useful. Thank you. I know you have your camper on your truck all the time. So easy disconnect of the camera isn't needed for your setup. I really like the camera and would like to see if I can use it on my new truck. I'll attempt to fabricate a marine grade connection in the cable. But, do you know what happens if the mirror is powered on but the camera is disconnected? Is there an easy way to shut off the display if it is hardwired to ignition power? Is the mirror usable as a mirror (no power)? It would be easy enough to connect power via an upfitter switch if needed. Thanks for your awesome channel!
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark! Yes, the camera is usable when you disconnect the rear camera. However, if you disconnect the rear camera, the front facing camera will still be displayed on the rearview mirror. So, you will want to cut power to it. The rearview camera display has a mirror finish, so it works the same as the original rear view mirror when it is off.

I got those plastic latches at camping world, but I'm sure they are cheaper on Amazon. Kenny, I love your channel and watch all your videos. Curious why you carry the jump pack for your truck, because with the diesel you probably have a second isolated battery and you can just jump off that battery.
@KennyOfAllTrades7 ай бұрын
Good question! Unfortunately, my batteries are not isolated. I have only needed the jump pack once in a video. It was up in Itasca. The temperatures were around -30 that night. The jump pack did start the truck that day. I think I have used the jump back to start other people's vehicles more than my own. They are handy little tools to have.

Do you ever use your truck without the camper? If so, do you relocate the rear view camera?
@KennyOfAllTrades2 жыл бұрын
Not since I started the channel. Before KZbin i did. I ordered the system with an extra camera. I mounted under the 3rd break light. When the camper came off I would disconnect the camera under the step. I then plugged in the camera under the 3rd break light. It was nice because it gave a wider feild of view the the original mirror, and I could look down into the bed of the truck while hauling stuff.

What a nice surprise, a Kenny video and it's not a Tuesday! Some great information in it, too. Where did you place the front facing camera? I'd get everything you mentioned, and what a great response from Torklift! Hope you weren't late for your turkey dinner with Mandi, and if you were, it was for a great cause and I'm sure she understood.
@KennyOfAllTrades2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Doodles, thankfully the food was still warm and delicious! The front camera is mounted on the mirror itself. So, if your windshield is obstructed with snow and ice there would be no video. I haven't had that issue because the wipers clear the area infront of the camera.

Hey Kenny, I’ve been looking at the new Cirrus 920 truck camper and was wondering if you have any thoughts on that camper?
@KennyOfAllTrades7 ай бұрын
I have never seen one in person. But I've watched a few tour videos of them. Their build quality looks top-notch. I've watched a few channels that had Cirrus. They don't have anything bad to say about them.

Curious is how do you deal with your rear view back up camera when you take your truck camper off the truck?
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
There is a disconnect plug about a foot away from the camera. I keep the camera mounted to the camper. I disconnect it and tuck the wire up under the spare tire.

Kenny for the rear view camera did you run the wire underneath the camper and put a quick disconnect for when you take the camper off?
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
Yes, I did run it under the truck. The camera came from the factory with a disconnect. I put a plug on the connector and tuck it up with the trailer plug wires when the camper is disconnected.

Am I to understand that there is an actual wire running form the main mirror all the way back to the rear view camera? So I have to hook up the wire every time I put the camera on the truck? the Camera is not wireless?
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
Yes. There is a wire that runs from the mirror, all the way back to the camera. I have the camera permanently mounted to the camper. There is a disconnect plug about a foot away from the camera. When I take the camper off the truck, I disconnect the plug and tuck the wire under the spare tire.
@stuh2 Жыл бұрын
@@KennyOfAllTrades Yikes! that's one more wire for me to hook up and probably forget to unhook when I take off the camper. lol. (not that I have ever done that with the Lance connector ;) lol ) But it does sound like a good product other than that. I will still consider it. Take care bud!

Kenny, our truck camper has a slide. So naturally it's heavier on one side. Do you maintain the same air pressure in both air bags? Or do you have more air on the slide side? What pressures do you normally maintain? Thanks Mike From S/E Indiana
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
You are right. To run perfectly level I run the bags to 35 driver side and 50 passenger. At night, I put them both up to 100 psi. That way, my head lights don't bother oncoming traffic.
@OFFTHEBEATENPATH_YT Жыл бұрын
Kenny. Question about the camera. Is it easy enough to disconnect when offloading the camper?
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
It has a disconnect plug about a foot away from the camera. I tuck it up under the spare tire when the camper comes off. The camera stays on the camper.

Kenny, so I purchased the unit and after running the camera cable I’ve come up about 5 plus feet short. Not exactly how short because the camper isn’t currently on the truck. I ran the cable across the top of the windshield down the front drivers side column, into the engine compartment and back along the drivers side frame. How did you run yours?

@KennyOfAllTrades7 ай бұрын
It very well may be bent. I don't take it easy on this rig. I love it when guys in their jeeps show up and ask how I got the camper down the trails. This truck and camper gets me into some crazy places. I've only pulled out the camper tie once. I rebuilt it with a metal plate that's much more secure than the factory setup. The spring-loaded fastguns do work really well to take the impact.

Hey Kenny my wife and I just recently discovered your YT channel and we're enjoying your videos and your positive outlook and message!. Appreciate your honest review of the TopTes PT210 gas leak detector. What do you think of the PT199 - looks similar, has good reviews on Amazon and is about 10 bucks cheaper. I would be using this on our camper and to check propane grill at home. Do you think it will accomplish the same thing as the PT210? Appreciate your honest opinion and don't pay too much attention to the "negative Nancys" out there! You know what they say opinions are like a__holes, everybody's got one!
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm glad you found the channel. I looked up the PT199. It looks a lot like the PT210. It has 4.6 out of 5 stars with over 3000 reviews on Amazon. I think that is an awesome rating. I would add that to my toolbox. I really appreciate you checking out the videos!
