Man, I was so relieved to not hear an AI generated voice when the video started. Anyway great video! The TG16 is a console I’m only casually familiar with, so this was very educational. Ninja Spirit in particular has incredible art direction

True statement! I definitely will not be using any AI on this channel. Thanks, I appreciate that it means a lot. I will be posting more content of the TG 16 in the near future. It is probably my 3rd or 4th favorite console of all time. If there are any games you want to see in a video let me know, I am always open for suggestions.

This system rereleased 3/4years before the SNES & Genesis, so at launch it was going up against the NES, Master System, and Atari(absolutely insane). It also had a CD addon and a full colored and backlit handheld that played the same games as the console, and you could also watch TV on it. I was 9 when I got to experience this, I can't even put into words how absolutely blown away I was. Sadly it was still beat out by Nintendo crazy popularity. NEC really deserved more.

Yeah I first saw it in magazines around 1988, I was 9 yo, and it was amazing. They pioneered everything. Handhelds (turbo express), CD add on. One thing I wish I did was buy a turbo duo back then. I always wanted that system. The turbo is definitely the most underrated system ever. I agree with that. If it was marketed better and had bonk as the pack in game it may have turned out better for us TG 16 fans. I have nothing but amazing memories with this system.

it did faily well in Japan and at some points beat the NES but when the SNES was being shown there was no way it could beat a true 16-bit machine, TG16 is 8-bit machine but with a 16-bit color palette

@@cool3865And the Nintendo had its mascots and great playability! Nintendo usually had weaker consoles such as the Gameboy which did better because of the games. They had Zelda and Metroid etc. Marketing. They were chosen. Couldn't gone any other way. It's political or something. Or "biblical"?

Bonk! I would've loved it. Fun fun fun. And it seems to have great story and deep message. Bonk is something else. Bonkers. As they say!

@@cool3865 Yeah I agree. I could be wrong but i think it has a 8 bit CPU and a 16 bit graphics processor. I know the genesis and snes are technically superior but pound for pound tg 16 is quite the competitor.

Turbografx/PCE is my favorite of the 16-bit era. I love it!! Thank you for the video! Also, I took a shot for every time the dude said "Amazin'" in this video. I'm so shit-faced right now.

Thanks, I appreciate that. Some of my favorite video game music ever comes from the TG 16 especially the turbo cd. Maybe I should do a video with the best music from these systems.

the tg16 is technically an 8-bit machine, it competed mainly against the NES and then the Genesis when that came out, by the time the SNES came out the TG16 was outdated
@RetroPoweredGamingКүн бұрын
True that! For what it was, the TG 16 did great things despite hardware limitations. It definitely was showing its age by 1992 1993.

As good as SF II' is on PCE, the real showcase for exhibiting the power of the system is not titles like it that basically match the Snes and Genesis, but exceed them on some level visually. That's where you look at titles like Air Zonk, Raiden, Legendary Axe, Soldier Blade, Dracula X, Art of Fighting, World Heroes 2, Spriggan, Gradius 2, Fatal Fury Special, The Legend of Xanadu II etc. Its unfortunate, but the hardware did not really get to shine fully via the Hu-Card format. They were pretty stingy with meg size for the Hucards. The Cd-Rom format really opened the door to developers to make the hardware shine completely, due to the high storage capacity.
@RetroPoweredGaming7 сағат бұрын
I agree with that. That is a great list of examples on the TG 16. I especially like Raiden and Legendary Axe. I always liked the graphics on the pc engine and tg 16 the best when they have great intro scenes like in Spriggan Mark 2, and Dracula X to name a few. The anime aesthetic looks incredible to me.

@@RetroPoweredGaming You if you actually look at the total amount of Hu-Card titles released that were 6mb-8mb, there was not many at all. And this was at a time when carts for Genesis and Snes were averaging 8-12mb, and 16mb was becoming commonplace in titles that were not just fighting game arcade ports. My guess is on the PC-Engine side of things they really started to feel like the profits for Hu-Card sales were marginal at best in-comparison to CD-Rom titles, and the format was restrictive as is. Hu-Card production really was so-so in 92 and wound down in 1993 on the Japanese side. Plus Super CD-Rom was a literal playground for developers familiar with the Pc-Engine, given all the extra storage space. For that alone, cant really blame any company or dev team for wanting to shift over to Super CD-Rom.

Quite surprised why the pc engine cd version wasn't released, Think about how arcade perfect the music and sound would be ? lol 😇

I agree, it seems like a no brainer for them to release the game on cd. It would have definitely sold well. The music and sound would be ridiculously good. Maybe even sounding better than the arcade.

I agree with that in some instances. Some games though, the Turbo definitely looks better. However, Some games like sonic 2, streets of rage 2, and gunstar heroes, are tough to beat in the graphics department.

@@RetroPoweredGaming I've loaded up the translated SF II' rom on my TED Pro. It has errors on the win screens as far as text goes. Such as sometimes when you win with Sagat, his winning statement will be "62". Pretty ridiculous, and still needs work. But then you have quality work being done with titles like Might & Magic 1 being translated, the first Far East of Eden title, and the first Dead in the Brain. Plus you have the Dracula X translation, and Ys 4, etc. Might & Magic will require the use of a custom system card rom being loaded onto a Turbo Everdrive in order for you to be able to play a cd-r of it, as it uses a custom font for the translated text.
