Another 2 big reasons to get G4 - it has HGiG that the Sony does not. Makes a huge difference for gaming in HDR. And It has DV that the Samsung does not (not sure why FOMO said the A95L also doesnt have DV?) - But you can clearly see the A95L was super dim in the snowy mountains in HDR10 compared to G4's DV image. Dark scenes were identical but bright scenes were not.

I said Sony cinema mode specifically darkens the edges to brighten the center more. Not other TVs or modes. The dark corner on the S95D is probably a uniformity issue on that panel or something else.

I keep my lg g3 77 inch. Not worth to exchange it for the lg g4 77 inch. must paid 2249 euro it. I`m not a pc gamer. so 120 hz gaming perfect for me on consoles. And just 100 nits more brightness on the lg g4. Wrgb oled is on his peak. Waiting till 2026 blue ph oled. Also the lg g4 its brighter if you put dynamic tonemapping on with 4k hdr content. its not how the creator intended

The S95D solves the biggest problem I have when watching TV, which is reflections from ambient lighting. A scene goes dark, and I see my walls being reflected on the TV, even in low lighting.

You stopped the FOMO for me. I picked up a 77”S95 C at the end of the year for 2.1K and change. I use it in a reasonably dark room. I think I made the right call. There’s a couple of network SDR shows where the motion is a bit quirky but the S95C seems to excel at everything else.

I ended up picking up the S95D 77” for £2900 due to the discount plus also got 5 year warranty - on the brightness I’ve read a lot of reviews impressed with brightness so only the motion is where I see the G4 leading but I couldn’t really see any motion issue with the cio shown - thanks for all the the time and effort you put into your reviews!

They have different tvs for different budgets, and honestly without them being side by side you likely won't know the difference. You can tell in store because they are side by side, but all modern tvs are pretty damn good.

You have to give LG a lot of credit here for their use of AI with that Cinematic Motion feature. To be able to dynamically adjust their motion handling settings in real time based on the motion on-screen is a VERY good use of AI tech. Hopefully other TV brands will soon start to use AI to do the exact same thing. Smart!

I'm not a fan of the LG Magic Remote, but it has a massive number of adherents. I just quit a PT job selling TVs on the weekends at Best Buy. About 1/2 of customers had no feelings about the remote (either they were going to use a streaming device like a Roku or they just didn't care). About 1/4 were in love with it (especially the ability to assign shortcuts to the number buttons). The rest of the customers hated it with a passion. I'm curious what Sony will bring out this year. The A95L is an awesome TV, but if the G4 is that close it will be interesting.

@@randallsmith2521 it was just revealed yesterday that there may be a significant design flaw in the G4. Users are reporting that when watching letterboxed video on the G4 in a dark room light is being reflected off of the metal bezel around the screen from the small lip of the bezel that overhangs the screen. This is causing a visible outline to appear around the display and distracting viewers from the movie when watched in a dark room. Evidently this occurs at any brightness setting above about the 50% level. If this is the case, it may well be that LG only did their product testing on the G4 in well-lit rooms, not in very dark rooms like the ones most customers prefer to watch their movies in.

So does the 77'' G4 actually come with a stand? Previously it was stated only the 65'' and below did, but I just saw another video that shows the 77'' with a stand. Does it come with a stand in all regions, or just outside of the US? Also, is this 20:38 supposed to be with the motion setting ON or is it OFF? Because you say that the G3 and G4 look similar with it set to on, but if this is supposed to be demonstrating on, they don't look remotely similar. The judder on the G3 is painfully obvious.

I also notice slight differences in clarity, but very slight. Just replaced my 85” Samsung q950TS 8K QLED with the LG G4 83”. The trade off for OLED contrast and blacks is worth it for me. Also my old 8K has so much artefacts from upscaling that I can’t stand. Until Z3 is affordable, this G4 is the best option for me IMO.

The way you described the whites vs. the colors on the LG G4 kind of sounds like a non-quantum-dot mini-LED--bright whites, deep blacks, but weaker colors. I wouldn't spend that much money for weaker colors, a behavior associated with LCD technology. If I could afford an OLED, I would have to go with one of the QD-OLEDs with rich colors and deep blacks. For me, my priorities are (1) color richness which doesn't compromise color accuracy, (2) brightness, and (3) black levels which don't compromise shadow detail. I'd imagine you can get some good QLED mini-LEDs with the color richness of the S95D AND the bright whites of the G4 for a lower price. Make sense?

qd-oled is best bang for buck can do bt2020 at 90% vs 68% movies studios are starting to grade in the color space and if you game in sdr 🤩 wrgb will always have magenta tint issues and mla does not help just makes whites brighter and for the $$$ mla is not worth the admission Sony A95l is a perfect example what the qd-oled can do Samsung just need a better chip to compete with Sony XR 🎯

@@michaelbeckerman7532 Is it though? Have Sony fixed the color issues it can have where red can appear brown in some scenes and so on. That is a major detriment. It can dim more than Samsung and LG in some content. Motion with LG is about equal or even better. HDR impact might be better on G4. I mean it's not a clear winner. Don't get me wrong I am a Sony fan. I just don't think it's clear cut winner anymore. If it fixed all the small nagging details, then yes I would likely consider it probably the best.

I just got the g4 coming from the lg c8. I’ve noticed the g4 never brings up the Dolby vision message when I play DV. It only pops up as hdr or HLG. Did they just remove the message from the newer models or something? Seems weird.

How can HDR compete with DV's dynamic scene by scene? Is it because dynamic tone mapping is on the HDR only TVs and DTM has gotten that good? Or because most content is 1000 nits mastered, it doesn't matter? Or maybe the scene in question doesnt need the dynamic meta data for that particular scene?

Most DV content isn't even really "DV". It's just HDR10 using the 'container' of DV. Hence why there is no real difference. There is only some movies that have proper scene by scene grading in DV that makes a difference. When that happen it can actually be noticeable and good looking. But sad part for DV is that it is barely 1 out of 20 DV movies that does proper DV. Think of DV on most TVs as just "Dolby vision tone mapping of HDR10". So a TV not using DV would then just do "TV tone mapping of HDR10". Hence it could actually look better. Because tone mapping can be really good on each TV. I am not explaining this perfectly. But the gist of it.

Similar to Dolby's Atmos product when it comes to audio, not true Atmos just an Atmos container. Thanks for clarifying that. I opted for the G4 55" which will be here tomorrow. Going to wait on the 83" to see if QDOLED brings larger sizes next year and/or what these rumored 4000 nits LG OLEDS bring. Makes you wonder if perhaps they are getting there with blue phosphors. It has potential issues such as longevity. They might do smaller OLEDs first like phone screens. Because if burn in happens it would be more detrimental in cost with big screens. But who knows.

@Swecan76 My 55" G4 monitor replacement came yesterday. Shockingly not too big, may leave on stand instead of wall mount. First inpressions coming from a CX is that they really cleaned up streaming quality, especially low APL like Marco Polo episode 3 14:30 mark, torture scene. No flickering and super clean. HDR highlights in HGiG is incredible. For productivity, just leave in SDR and only the brightness needed and/or auto power sace is my thought.

Saw the S95D at bestbuy the other day. The one thing that really stood out was when all the TVs went to black, the S95D looked different then all the other TV's. Not a better or worse thing, just different. Bestbuy has bad store lighting, and all the TVs are in Vivid mode. I wanted the S95D for a while and I could get used to it, but I prefer glossy screens. I don't think this is a better or worse issue, it's just a preference issue. There is no right answer. The S95D looked excellent just like all the other OLED's, in a way it looked more cinematic, more like a movie theater, as a movie screen is not glossy.

S95D love it. With the anti glare test, i did not see any room lights in the screen of the G4...why not? Is its anti glare better then the 95D? Or was it because in the tv setup, both lg models were lower and sony and samsung were positioned higher? Ps...in many stores you also get 5 yr warranty for the s95d.

It was the positioning of the tv. The G4 and G3 had no lights on them. The A95L and S95D did. He does mention the G4 would have the same reflections as the A95L if it were I the same position.

Since the A95L came to market so late in the year last year it is not expected that Sony will update or revise it for 2024. They likely will just let it carry over as a current model this year and update or replace it in 2025. We will know more on Wednesday though when they release their 2024 TV lineup. I use the s90c modded to a s95c for gaming. Either way, it is an amazing monitor regardless if it was in s90c mode (1000 nits) or s95c mode (1300 nits). The 144hz looks great on Horizon Forbidden West, the HDR pops, no weird verticle banding issues that I keep hearing about on WOLEDs. If I was getting a living room TV, I'd probably go WOLED, but for gaming on a 4090 system, the s90/s95 TVs have been nothing short of amazing and syncs perfectly with my PC.

To me, the G4 and G3 definitely are whiter, and in some cases, a little bit more green/yellow, and I don’t particularly love that. On the other hand, I have a super Duper bright room and for this reason I would have been considering them- except for the fact that the only one of these TVs that supports spectrum streaming app is the Samsung… I saw the S 95D a few days ago at PC Richard and it kind of blew me away…

I want impact! So I will wait for the U8N and see if I can pay less for that and if that doesn't pan out, I will wait for G4. Unfortunately the only way to get impact out of my s95b when watching Hdr movies and shows is using Contrast enhancer, which has a host of problems, and I heard that they removed any element of dynamic tone mapping on that tv, and I can tell. Highlights that should be bright and impactful just look dead and this is on dark scenes.

Spot on with cinematic mode on the G4 - I bought the A80L 83 on the back of Brian’s recommendations - terrible motion ( in panning shots was absolute garbage”, and agree have two play with ALL the little clicks to get it to be right at the right level. It was painful having to change things all the time to get the sweet spot. Drove me insane, the SONY panel ended up being bad and went back because of heavy banding, got a refund and got the 83inch G4 for 1/4 of price off - I’m so looking forward to the “ONE CLICK” motion solution of the LG G4.

There’s no way you could watch it in the day with sunlight - the G4 can power through that BUT if you turn it right up you lose depth of colour and picture quality - I’m still happy with the G4. Of note though is - I don’t know I feel like with recent updates the G4s motion has suffered

Personally I'd want the Sony A95L 77", but it's mighty expensive. I'd definitely settle for the G4 over the S95D, the problem is the G4 VESA positioning on the back panel is too high up (unlike on Sony), meaning it'll push the TV too far down the wall to be accommodated. If it weren't for that, I'd get a G4. Definitely not getting a S95D.

Wrgb is always going to have that magenta tint issue no matter how bright the whites get , qd-Oleds are the next best until micro-led becomes affordable for the general mass , qd-oled can do bt2020 at 90% where as wrgb oled 68-70% so if you are gaming is sdr 🤩 studio are staring to grade movie in that color space Samsung seriously need to come out with a better chip to compete with Sony XR

I like the S95D but the "anti glare" finish is too much of a wild card. We're so use to glare we've become accustomed to it, and I feel the level of frustration I potentially could have with the feature would have me regretting the purchase. It's sad they did added that and feel it's a bit of a bait and switch so to stand out in the store. When you bring it home the potential for disappointment will be high in real life scenarios. Unless it's in a dark room. Open box returns may be the way to go on this TV. Otherwise it's a nice TV for the price point. Still the 77" is 3,000 less with the S95D promotion than the A95L, and less than what you would pay for the S95C as of now in 🇨🇦.

It’s weird though isn’t it? If you were investing tv now with options of ant-reflection or reflection you would be unlikely to pick the mirror like surface for viewing. I think you’re right. It’s what people got used to. That doesn’t necessarily make it better though. If ant-reflection is able to get a foothold and improves so raised blacks are even less of a concern to tv fans it seems a no brainier.

This why I love my Panasonic MZ2000 over my A95L , Panasonic pushes there tvs harder than LG, they are the creator's of the heat heat sink , bright colors isn't important to me Panasonic who has superior processing when comes to movies and motion the is better than my A95L , also it doesn't dim down like my A95L when I am watching sports.

@Ren32 The Germany the shootout the MZ2000 came in second to the G3 , I own it best tv in my house better than my A95L and own both of them when . The MZ2000 is by far better when comes to sports also my A95L dims down significantly when I watch sports.

YES I did leave a possibility at the end that Sony may seize this victory BUT until the Sony miniLED hits the market, it’s the G4’s crown to lose - last year Sony didn’t release the A95L until October despite announcing it in March

13:35 - is it brighter or whiter? Color which is whiter may seem brighter but in reality it may be just a different color messing with our minds. And I really think movies are not as important anymore. I spend time streaming and gaming. And I don't do it in dark room. I would get headache and eye strain. There is no doubt in my mind that I will not buy anything but S95D now to preserve my health. Also, it's 3000 nits. Winning HDR impact when a year or two ago all of these TVs couldn't even match 3000 (2k/1k) nits. I would say that any TV with accurate color is better instead of one which can burn your eye faster with white color. Bright TV G4 in a bright room, full of reflections. What a nonsense guys. Also, gaming is done in normal room. Anyone who own oled see these reflections and they become tiresome for a brain even if your consciousness cancel them out. No TV, no other TV than S95D wins this year. How can you be so scared to admit it. Or maybe the only thing you do is sitting in a mancave with no light and lost perspective. Terrible summary.
