@@timothys9288 Samsung are now the only TV manufacturer that doesn’t support Dolby Vision. Most other brands even support it in their lower / mid range offerings. Given that Dolby Vision is way more supported than HDR10+, and will continue to be, I wonder if Samsung will ever admit defeat and start supporting it. It reminds me of the early days of the battle between blu ray and HD DVD. Blu ray ended up winning that format war and companies that supported HD DVD either gave up and shifted to blu ray or went the way of the Dodo. I think there’s only so long that Samsung can ignore Dolby Vision before they start to fall behind.

Thank God, they managed to fix the 144HZ dropout issue. Returned my S95C last summer, due to this issue. Had to argue my UK consumer rights, but got my money back. I am chuffed that the 2024 one connect box has a better power delivery system. Samsung actually listened for once. Will be picking up one of these on Black Friday. Matte screen doesn’t bother me, as my room is brightly lit and I am used to it, with my older monitors e.g PG279Q. I am super impressed with the Odyssey G9 OLED I have as well, with the 2nd generation QD-OLED panel. Samsung are upping their game, to where it should be. Thank you for the analysis Vincent. Very informative, as always. 👍

Is this confirmed? I'm still seeing a lot of random comments / posts about issues while gaming with RTX 4000s GPUs... I would hate to buy this TV and be stuck with this type of issue... unclear if it's the 40 vs 48 Gbps or something else...
@ToxicTaipan6 ай бұрын
@@ocn16 The Display Stream Compression is what can enable the one connect box, to push 144hz? I cannot test this out myself, as I do not own a Samsung OLED TV yet, but if Vincent’s box is working fine, then at least the review samples have been tested. I have an Odyssey G9 OLED that uses DSC and it ran fine with my 4090 and 7900 XTX. Believe it or not, the worst part about technology is that updates to firmware can literally tank your TV/Monitor. Samsung are notorious for issuing software updates, that nerf the performance of their TVs. For example the S95B was rated as the brightest OLED at 1500 nits. A few months into its lifecycle they issue a firmware update that dropped it to around 1100 nits of peak brightness. There are plenty of posts regarding this on Reddit, AVForums and AVS Forums. To be honest, out of the gate, Samsung have been really poor with their software. I was an early adopter of the S95C and I have three videos posted on my channel, showcasing the dropout issue. I 100% agree with the community that all the HDMI 2.1 ports should be 48Gbps and not 40Gbps? The one connect box is a great idea, but in practice it can be appalling. That is coming from a man who has had issues even with a QN95A with the HDR washing out the image at high brightness. In all honesty if you want a tested brand, for OLED, buy LG? Especially for any form of monitor work. WRGB has a different subpixel than the triangular pattern of QD-OLED. Content creation isn’t the best on QD-OLED. Plus LG supports full HDMI 2.1 48Gbps bandwidth and Freesync and GSYNC between 40~144hz.

Unfortunately there are many faulty hdr meta data implementations out there with HDR10 (admittely less these days) leading to an underwhelming dark presentation with low contrast range ... not even the usual 1,000 nits are demanded by these contents ... the S95D will not be able to use it's luminance potential at all. Dolby Vision doesn't have this, due to every single frame gets its own specific meta data ... Samsung's HDR10+ would also help in this regard ... IF there would be HDR10+ content ;-)

S90D has a panel lottery in case you didn't know. Google it. Samsung doesn't specify on the box nor on the product page whether the S90D comes with a W-OLED panel or a QD-OLED panel. Both panels are in rotation for that TV. That shit is WRONG and should be illegal! 😡 Nintendo also did a panel lottery for the 3DS and 2DS. Both screens could be any 1 of 4 combinations between having a TN panel or IPS panel.

Hi Vincent. Did you happen to experience thermal throttling on prolonged bright scenes on the S95D? In RTINGS review, they encountered temperatures going up to 75C with aggressive ABL kicking in dropping from 1600 nits to 200 nits after a minute of prolonged brightness.
@marcuscole87966 ай бұрын
He probably didn't, due to you have to wait at least 30 secs. for the throttling to slowly start ... when running the measurements "as usual" you will not notice it !

I have the S95D (55") and have had it now for about 1 month. Its not positioned 'opposite' a window where light would be reflected - even with the curtains closed, on a glossy screen for example, and the Matte finish makes absolutely ZERO difference. If you watched the Video (@9.50), would you rather have that ugly light that's going to be 'blocking' everything underneath (therefore affecting PQ) or the more diffuse approach that may raise the blacks a bit, but at least its not that annoying reflection. If you position your TV in the same way you'd position a Glossy TV to avoid direct/annoying light from affecting the TV, it makes NO difference at all - not even in 'bright ambient Daytime rooms where even Glossy screens don't have 'light' issues. The ONLY issue for OLEDs in 'bright' rooms has been their ability to display Content 'bright' enough, even in HDR to have 'impact' hence LCD's were 'recommended' This TV is Superb for Bright Rooms because it can get as bright as some of the best LCDs that were recommended for Bright Rooms 'and' tries to make it 'better' than glossy screens for those Situations where you can't stop the light from causing annoying reflections. As I said, and as an Owner, My TV has absolutely stunning PQ, and was Out of the Box, Blacks are 'perfect' as its an OLED, colours are incredible, pure (no white desaturation and such a wide colour gamut too) and the Matte screen makes NO difference to the PQ regardless of whether I'm watching on the Brightest Day or at night because no 'direct' light is pointing at or near my TV. It truly is stunning with no raised blacks at all...
@whitecrowuk5756 ай бұрын
@@BAMozzy69you would probably need to compare side by side to know the difference. As we’ve seen it dulls the contrast - stronger the light lower the contrast. So might be acceptable contrast but when compared to gloss woled then it’s where you say ahhh contrast can get better than this. Mixed feelings about it personally. I think one would need to be more careful about light conditions than with gloss. But as we know, with exception of A95L, QD oled had raised blacks in comparison with ambient light present - so I guess it’s a clever way for Samsung to address this problem. With ambient light looks better than s95c I think.

Yes, Samsung tvs have (very annoying) ASBL ... called TPC in LG's service menu ! I know at least in 2022 there was an easy way to enter Samsung's service menu and deactivate ASBL ... unfortunately I do not know whether this is still possible ... LG removed access to the service menu in 2023 due to it was too heavily exploited and misused by users :-(

So sad that they don't support Dolby Vision. i'm surprised that this tv also does not support DTS audio ! i have the Samsung HW-Q990D Soundbar which happens to support DTS audio, but if the tv does not support it, the DTS will not be passed through the soundbar. So, why have the soundbar support it but not the tv?? Makes no sense. I'm looking for a new TV to go with the Q990D, at first i wanted to go for Samsung but after some thought and looking at the lack of support for other formats.. i will probably go for LG or Sony. Still haven't decided.
@gangs08466 ай бұрын
You can use an external Media Player such as Shield TV pro and connect it directly to the soundbar
@mrnobody0436 ай бұрын
@@gangs0846 It doesn't work that way. The TV has to support the audio format for the soundbar being able to use it. I have a PC connected to it at the moment as well. My pc supports all audio formats. Atmos, Dts etc. My current tv does not support Atmos, but it supports DTS. So, when i play Atmos content, the Atmos channels get downmixed to multichannel pcm by the TV. The Computer is directly connected to the soundbar via eArc (2.1) The bar will send the stream to TV and then it returns to the bar as output, it needs to be this way for synchronicity and is the only way these things work. The TV needs to support the format for the bar to recognise it when playing a movie. I can play DTS and Dolby digital+ as the TV does support these.

Maybe some sets are lucky and don't have the issues, but I got 1 from Best Buy and one from Costco. Both sets have black-outs even running 4k@120 with HDR on. I was able to return S95D to Costco to get an LG G4 and never been happier, the best buy one I will most likely have to go through Samsung for the RMA which I heard is a nightmare scenario.
