The painting is of Lisa Gherardini and is actually named La Gioconda ("Happiness". The husband of Lisa Gherardini, who commissioned the painting, was Francesco del Giocondo). It was the person who was referred to as Madame Lisa, or as it is in Italian, Mona Lisa, not the painting itself. The reason English-speaking countries call it "Mona Lisa" is due to a misconception about a renaissance description of the painting, where it is not named but described as "portrait of Mona Lisa" (at a time when the abbreviation of "madonna" to "mona" wasn't widely known).

So yes, it was an accident for her to pick that option, but she accidentally chose the correct choice.
