Just keep in mind dizzee was 17 when he made thus album and he produced most if not all the beats himself. This was at a time when the UK scene was starting to find its own lane and Dizzee really broke down the door and change things forever.

If you want more early Grime albums then Wiley - Treddin on thin ice should be next! same year as this Dizzee album, these were Grime tracks before it was even called Grime, There is a track on Wiley's album Treddin on thin ice called 'wot do u call it' which says it all. It also has a couple of features from Kano & Tinchy.

JME released an album called famous in 08 then Blam in 2010, Integrity in 2015 and Grime MC in 2019 Some of Skepta's albums include Microphone Champion, Konnichiwa, Ignorance is bliss. Some of Ghetts albums are 2000 & life, Freedom of speech, The Calm before Storm, Rebel with a cause, Ghetto Gospel, Ghetto Gospel the new testament, Momentum 2, Conflict of Interest, On purpose with a purpose. Devlin's The Art of rolling, Bud, sweat and beers, Tales from the crypt, A moving picture, The devil in. The outcast.

Its so interesting to me remembering how with the little interaction we had with Americans during the period of Grime's inception, I gathered the overall reaction to Grime from them wasn't great. With time though and I guess with the wider awareness of our culture and how British music like Dubstep (which I feel has helped Americans transition into British production styles and sounds) became more well known, its like Americans have started to understand Grime more and have gained a liking of it and are now catching up with 2 decades of content. Big up the two of you!

Boy in the Corner was the true begining of Grime, it was the first time a grime album was truely everywhere, barber shops, blaring from bedroom windows or backgardens, cars driving passed, someones headphones leaking on the bus or train. We had a music teacher at our Secondary School (high school) and he would always play" I Luv U" at lunch break. Boy In the Corner would be a highlight musical memory from most teenagers in the UK during the 00's. Dizzie Rascal, Skepta, Ghetto, Wiley, Sharky Major were all friends at one point, they were all producing beats and going to pirate radios sets together, Wiley made a soundpack on Fruityloops called Eskimo and with the beatpack they all produced this similar sound and began making music under XL Recorings, after Dizzies first album the beefs began and Wiley was made to leave XL Recordings, maybe the best thing for grime because everyone went in their own direction and grime was spread back to underground rather than all under one label were everyone came up as independant artists or to smaller labels.

Am enjoying this album and you guys’s reaction/comments. Will complete this listen a bit later. I dont know much about grime other than I enjoy it. Does anyone know if there’s a correlation between grime and uk bass? It’s making me want to pull out kode9, swamp 81, youngsta and friends
@taoi7 ай бұрын
Yeah def a correlation. Kode9 and Youngsta were two of the earliest dubstep DJs and most of the producers on Swamp81 were dubstep or post-dubstep at some point. Both grime and dubstep came out of UK garage as it got darker and weirder around 2000, and they both usually put the accent on the third beat of the bar, unlike 2step garage which puts the snare on the 2 and 4. Grime MCs often spit on dubstep beats too. "UK bass" I guess is basically a general term for what came after, keeps evolving

A LOT of people forget that Dizzee was originally part of Roll Deep. A grime group that was lead bt Wiley. Grime was Wileys creation and roll deep was his crew and entry to him making a name in the mainstream. So many grime artist have had big careers thanks to Riley and Dizzee is one of them. Roll Deeps big album was called In at the deep end. So many iconic grime artists came out of this group.
