For productivity, once u go ultrawide you won’t go back. IMO far superior to dual monitor. My first was a curved 29”. Next went to 34” now considering a 38 or 40”. Great video sir

@@motherclucker1235 I actually found a 49” for a steal and love it. I can easily have 4 apps/windows up at once. I wish the resolution was a little higher but that’s me just being picky… it’s working great for my needs. The one I got is only 60 hz but since I don’t game it doesn’t impact me really.

@@motherclucker1235 Using a TV is crazy! I mean I used to connect my laptop and mini-pc to my 55-inch TV before, it is only good if you're playing a movie or presentation. But productivity wise, everything looks too big even if you change the resolution! Maybe that's the reason why the monitors for computers are called monitors and not TV! Hilarious!

It’s crazy that Gaming seems to be the only thing companies are catering too, even though the majority of people use monitors for work, social media editing, graphic design, or multi-functional productivity. I just want a high quality monitor that had incredible clarity when it comes to text and color, and versatile so that it will stand the test of time in the age of every changing technology and innovation. If my job primarily includes working with editing and creating text documents, with some graphics what should I chose? I want to do more graphics and social media work in my off time, so I need a monitor robust enough for that. I can’t seem to find an online review that doesn’t focus on gaming. Yours was one of the few that didn’t. I even watched one for graphics and every other word he said gaming so I was confused as to what kind of monitors he was promoting because it seemed like they were more for gaming. It’s frustrating. I also don’t know if I should buy 2 monitors or go ultra wide and curved and get a 49” screen. Decisions, Decisions. Thanks for the link to the research website.

Yeah i know what you mean. It does seem like the gaming monitors get a lot of hype. It's also very difficult to find a gaming monitor which can double well as a work monitor, especially if you do photo and graphic work.

I agree man, I’m just looking for a monitor to read and work on documents and all I can find is about response times and gaming stuff, I don’t even need speakers on the monitor. I’m looking for a cheap curved ultrawide, I have a 29” lg ultrawide and its ok but i want to upgrade to a curved 34”

I do IT remote and splurged and got a 43" Samsung monitor (curved). I was a bit concerned it'd be gaudy and excessive but I absolutely love it and the quality of life upgrade is easily worth the $750 I paid for it. I thought about the 49" but it was another $500. I'd have been happy either way I'm sure, but I'm certainly not missing 6 more inches. The reason I'm watching this video is that after 1.5yrs, I want another 34" monitor to sit vertically atop my 43" one. I'm a nut and ordered a 32" but am sending it back bc I didn't do my hw well enough to learn that the 4:3 aspect ratio makes a vertical setup just look stupid. I think going large ultrawide is worth it for the seamless experience. If you're at that computer a lot, the extra $$ in the ultrawide will dissolve away in quality of life upgrade it confers.

I love the review! I love how you included your simple opinions over dual monitors and ultrawide, why go for ultrawide vs 4k, what's the recommended monitor size if you should opt for 4k or ultrawide monitors. It really helps potential buyers like me to decide which one is really for me based on preference and use. I've been using dual monitors for almost 9 yrs now since that has always been our company work setup. I'm not sure if using ultrawide monitors is equally flexible when it comes to multitasking, but it's aesthetically pleasing aside from the fact that it's trending nowadays. I would also like to improve my video editing skills to change work industry since the skill is more marketable nowadays. But maybe 34 inch is enough size for me since I am not used to rotating my monitor anyway, I'm not used to moving my head up and down if the distance between the browser and task manager is too far.

The whole 4K issue is why I went for the Dell U4021QW - this basically gives me a resolution of 5120x2160, so I basically have a true 4K monitor with 35% added to the side. Also, because it’s 40 inch in size I don’t suffer from that 27” 4K thing where the monitor is simply too small for the 4K resolution to be usable. Great video. Love the comments about 27 inch monitors and 4k resolutions being too small. With that said, I bought the LG 38 UltraWide, but ended up returning it a week later because the fonts were absolutely terrible. They were blurry, and were noticeably worst than on my $400 Dell. Add that to the fact that my Xbox Series X didn’t support a 21:9 resolution, the cons outweighed the pros. It was disappointing

Stick to the standard resolution sizes when you connect a console to it, consoles are not made to run ultrawide monitors and can cause a lot of trouble (like you said). Ultrawides are aimed more towards productivity and often have slow refresh rates and have unnecessary features if you want to game on them like: color accuracy, view angles, ports, kbm switches and many more

I've actually owned the LG 34WK95U. I use it with my M1 MBP 14" and my Windows i9/RTX 3090 gaming machine, plus my Lenovo Laptop (work) and Army Dell laptop. Yes, I'm a busy guy. I really like monitor. it's not as big as a 38" and gives me a great image with (obviously) a lot of connectivity options. I connect my MBP to the USB C, Windows gaming machine to DisplayPort, and the Lenovo and Dell laptops to the HDMI. I have no issues with it. LG has a great program called OnScreen Control which helps you organize your opened windows as well. It also has another program called Dual Controller that's like a software KVM. I don't use it since I have a Logtech K860 keyboard that allows me to control up to 3 devices via bluetooth, however, I control my MBP and Windows via bluetooth and I use the Logitech wireless dongle for the 3rd channel which I'll switch between my Lenovo and my Dell laptop as needed. Another trick I discovered is that if you connect your speakers to the headphone jack on the back of the monitor then it will send sound to the active computer. It's really neat.

Any issues running your M1 on the LG?
@ADPeguero
@ADPeguero 2 жыл бұрын
@@bw162 Yes. I own the 14" MBP with the M1 Pro chip. It's connected to the LG 34WK95U using the Thunderbolt cable that came with it to the MBP. My issue mainly is whenever I wake up the MBP, it takes constant keyboard presses for about 30 seconds for them to reconnect and for the image to finally display. This also happens when I restart my MBP. There have been occasions when I've had to unplug and re-plug the monitor because it becomes unresponsive. It's not an instant wake up like with my Windows 11 PC that's connected via DisplayPort. I have to use SwitchResX in order to use a usable resolution between 3360 x 1418 and 5120 x 2160 which for me is 4096 x 1728 @ 60Hz. And, for those of you that ask if that's perhaps the reason for the slow wake up? No. It also wakes up slowly whenever I use resolutions listed in System Preferences without using SwitchResX. I'm using the latest version 12.3 and that doesn't change anything. I think it's just how Apple handles this monitor since I never have any of these issues using my Windows 11 gaming PC (a real powerhouse) using DisplayPort via an RTX 3090, my Lenovo Windows 10 work laptop using HDMI, and my Dell Army laptop using the 2nd HDMI. Although I like this monitor, I can't wait for another like it to come out with faster refresh rate and 1ms response time plus a better menu system. But for now, you can't beat the number of computers you can directly connect to (4), the quality of the image and resolution supported (5k2k).
@bw162
@bw162 2 жыл бұрын
@@ADPeguero Thanks for all the info. Many have experienced the same issue. Re refresh rate, you might want to check out the LG 38WN95C-W that has a 144Hz rate and 1 ms Motion Blur Reduction. I am thinking of using it with the PC I use primarily for CAD and some gaming. I’ll also get rid of my old iMac for a Studio M1Max and use the same monitor for it. It’s about the same price as the new Studio Monitor but the Studio can’t be run on anything but an Apple.

@@bw162 Thanks for the tip on the 38" LG. I had thought about that one but the resolution is not as high as I want it be. I run my Windows 11 at 5120x2160 so the 38"'s max res of 3840 x 1600 would be a step back. I mainly use VR for my gaming as I do a lot of DCS and MSFS 2020 so the 60hz and 5ms response of the 34" is not that big of a deal for me at this time. I'll wait for later in the year. I'm sure LG, Dell, or Samsung will put something out that's better than this 34" monitor. Best of luck.

Great review. What do you think of the DELL U4021QW and why did it not make it to your final list as the DELL U3821DW did. Between the DELL U4021QW and DELL U3821DW, which would you recommend for use with a MacBook Pro 14 inch with Apple M1 Pro with 80core CPU, 14-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine and why. Appreciate you expert advice and I am struggling to decide between the two. Thanks a ton.

Hey Jacob, I like your vid’s a lot. Right now I‘m considering to buy the 49“ LG monitor for my MacBook Air M1 is n order to do my daily work (research, trading etc.) + making music and from time to time a bit gaming. The only thing that I don’t like on the 49“ is the fact that this monitor is not broad as the LG model you mentioned in your vid above. Would you prefer a 49“ and if not why? The biggest disadvantage I see on LG 38“ is that it doesn‘t provide Thunderbolt (correct me if I’m wrong).
@CHECKTHISOUT-CANADA
@CHECKTHISOUT-CANADA 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the 49 inch is from 2018, don't believe that one has thunderbolt, it's also USBC. BTW USBC is absolutely enough, you don't need thunderbolt unless you are planning on using it as your only hub and will have say...super fast nvme ssd drive attached. Plus that will increase the costs. As for the 49 inch, it's very subjective. For me it's too vertically slim. I like having side by side but also want to view lots of vertical space. In my personal opinion the taller display is more versatile. If money is no issue, the 40WP95C-W would be awesome. If there's a budget to consider, the one i purchased 38WP85C-W, or the Dell. If you're very contained and following a tight budget you can get a stripped down version without light sensor and USBC etc, ‎38WN75C-B.

@@CHECKTHISOUT-CANADA Thank you so much for the quick reply and your time for the extra detailed informations. I’m gonna put the 40WP95C-W on my radar since money shouldn’t be an issue in that case. One one hand the longer the display the better for music production software (DAW’s) on the other hand vertical space is also important. I can’t recommend your vids enough. Happy new year!

Heres what Im looking for. Two laptops, one work with frequent teleconferencing. The second is a personal computer that I access frequently during my work day, often during work video calls. Is there a way to set it up so I can use a single ultrawide monitor, with a KVM type setup so I can use set of keyboard/mouse to operate both "simultaneously". Or at least while the call is running, acesss the second work laptop. Biq question is however, would I be able to hear my work call if switched to the personal device

The extra lines of resolution will just put further stress on my system which is why we're going down from 4k and would defeat the purpose of that so we actually ended up going with View Sonic VP3481a Color Pro Monitor which had the best of both worlds. Color Calibrated from the factory with 100% sRGB and 100%Rec 709 which we needed for graphic design and tutorial videos. Plus it has 90 watt usb - c and hub. FreeSync Premium with 100hz for silky smooth desktop use. And its less than $600. Which is hard to find for a Color Calibrated monitor that's also 34inches that doesn't skimp out on anything.

Totally get your comments around screen size and 4k. You can use scaling through. Eg: Run native 4k resolution but scale the UI larger (possible in Mac and Windows). I'm sure you know this but others may not. Great video. ✌️

Sorry for late reply, yes it's always scaling on the Mac. I didn't want to get into resolution vs scaling in the video, but was trying to make a point i scale larger even when using 4k. You will get similar look using the 1440p, just a touch less sharp.

Awesome review..... I would love an Ultrawide 38" or 40" for FCPX video editing but, with the resolution of 4K 3840x2160 with the ability to split screen. So far, no luck. I saw a few 34" 4K 3840x2160 but, I feel the same as you do.... not quite the right size. I have a feeling that if I want great spec's along with the width of two screens, I'll have to go with a pair of 27". Thanks again, Great job!!👍😊

Yeah i actually use the monitor with Final Cut often, it's absolutely awesome. It's definitely enough space and better than 2 27 inches. It's much easier to work, expand timeline the full width, plus you can see and use all your tools at the same time. At 4k you will do scaling anyway. The only difference is the 4k will be a touch sharper after scaled.

I may take another hard look at the Apple Studio Display as much as I don't want to. I don't want to jump the gun on that simply due to the possibility of something better at their next Apple event. Great review that covered the key points. I've been an Apple driver since the Apple 2. But the M1, while it has very good benchmark numbers natively, falls to the bottom of the pack when run through a VM like Parallels. As a result, to run my CAD work I am getting a PC Desktop. Either of these would be great for CAD work. But I still have everything else on a iMac, soon to be upgraded to a Studio M1. How well would these monitors do on an M1? Would one be better than the other for dual use as I describe? Any downsides? Thanks.

In my living room I use the 65" LG OLED as part of my set up that includes some high end speakers and a decent amp with the accompanying pre put receiver. I have had a couple of 27" Imac's for past decade and I have an interest in the Apple Studio Max. I’m on my second one after dealing with LG support and while it says it’s doing 144hz through a thunderbolt connection, when I move screens around I cannot see the difference between 60 hz and 144 hz.
