I bought the Samsung G9 2.5 years ago and my monitor died from a manufacturing defect about 2 weeks ago. I called Samsung and I was told by their rep "this is a prime example why people like you should learn to buy the extend warranty", not sure why the Samsung rep decided to be mean instantly, especially since I started the call being respectful and expecting them to stand by their product. But in the end, he said Samsung cannot help me, even if it's a know defect and they said I can be transferred to their sales department to purchase a new monitor. If Samsung won't stand by their product, it makes it hard for me to trust Samsung products, especially on a monitor that expensive. I WILL NOT BE BUYING A SINGLE SAMSUNG PRODUCT AGAIN.

I find it interesting that there seems to be a focus on oled being better here. The vast majority of productivity use-cases (e.g. programming / WFH) would result in OLED burn-in at a faster rate than only using an oled for gaming/watching media. So I find it a bit unusual that a video for productivity monitors is focusing on encouraging going down the oled route when the current state of oled is not suitable for productivity, unless one wants to buy a new monitor after several months. Seriously, working a 9-5 on an oled monitor is not a smart idea until burn-in is significantly improved.

Oled burn in is kind of a thing of the past. 2019 was a big leep forward for oleds and they've continued to get better. I can leave my screens on for a very long time (and I do) and have absolutely no issues. Prior to 2019, I had one that definitely suffered from burn-in and LG sent a repair guy to replace the panel. In fact, that's all he did all day. He drove around and replaced panels from burn-in issues. What a crazy job. Lol.

2:19 your recommendation: Bigger the monitor, deeper the curve (lower number). Is this the general consensus? I understand the merit in this - the edges goes farther out into the peripheral view as the monitor gets bigger; less need for head turning the more curved it is. However, I thought the purpose of the curve was so that every point in the monitor is equidistant from the eyes. Therefore, bigger the monitor LESS curve (greater number), opposite your recommendation. Which is it?

@bilbobagend81556 ай бұрын
OLEDs WILL degrade over time. It isn't a matter of if, but when. If you baby it by turning the screen off while away, or keeping as many static images away from it as possible, you should be able to get a few solid years out of it. Owning an OLED is being on a timer, but during the honeymoon phase, your experience should generally be superior in most ways to any other panel type (other than your constant worrying about burn in.)

I've owned oleds for a few years now. TVs, monitors, for games, TV, Mac and windows, and not once have I suffered burn in. Yes there are cases where I've seen people have been affected, but it's definitely the minority 👍🏼 crack on and enjoy your monitor. Anti burn in tech is getting better and better every year, so every year it's even less of an issue
@bilbobagend81556 ай бұрын
A thing to note about "anti burn in tech" is that it works by uniformly burning in the pixels to prevent image retention. This inevitably means that your max brightness will dim over time, but it shouldn't be noticeable for a long time, given the insane contrast OLEDs provide.

I run a Samsung QD Oled Samsung G8 Monitor I've had it almost for a year. I use solidworks nearly 8 hours a day so lots of icons and static interface on the screen almost all day. No signs of burn it yet. You can see burn in protection shifting everything slightly every couple of minutes, doesn't bother me at all. Every couple of days when I turn it off at the end of the day it pops up a message, that's it running a screen refresh that runs for about 20 minutes. Honestly it's not an issue. The Oled displays are so clear and so vibrant it's worth. Everything from solidworks, to outlooks, to extended gaming sessions in cyberpunk looks absolutely stunning.

Thanks Pete there's a lot of information , but in your opinion which OLED curved is the better on the market for Mac's as I do a lot of reading .... lots .... sometimes have to be reformatted from jpeg to PDF and it gets compromised in terms of clarity. I love the idea of curved but the prices are up there ! Currently I use a 28 samsung which is 3 yrs old . Shall I go a double monitor or go OLED ? I love the idea of having may tabs opened at a glance like you did on the video Thanks

Thanks for the video, doest the dell U4025QW model , support 120hz at high resolution 5120 x 2160, so if at high resolution it goes back to 60 hz?

Yep. Full resolution at 120hz 👍🏼

I am really confused between IPS avs OLED exclusively for productivity. I heard OLED text is not clear and has burn in issues but these monitors have the resolution and aspect ratio I am looking for, 21:9 45". IPS monitor have very few (if any) options for large displays. I will exclusively use these monitors for trading and coding no gaming at all.

No comment about text clarity and burning in productivity with OLED ?

Did Samsung happen to update the G9 Oled to work easily with mac or do you still have to use the CalDigit?

How does a Mac not scale right? I have a Macbook and an iPad Pro and never had any issues with scaling when connected to a 4k 32inch screen. Is that with specific screen sizes and resolutions? And the scaling of some programs in Windows is far from perfect. So my experience is the other way around.

Pete, the timing of this video cannot be more timely. I am planning on upgrading my monitor this new year. Its time to retire my 8 year old monitor. Thank you.

Hi Pete. I really enjoyed this video but I’m still struggling to understand the concept of MacOS scaling and how much consideration I should place on it when selecting a productivity monitor for my Mac. Do you have any plans to produce a video discussing this issue in more detail? I’ve found current KZbin content on the topic very vague & I really like the way your videos explain things in lay-man’s terms. I’m sure there are many viewers that’d benefit from your explanation, particularly given the highly expected new MacMini release in October.

HI Pete, just subscribed your channel. Just bought the new MacBook Pro for my photo and video editing hobbies and also a PC laptop for my data analytics work. I still couldn't decide what monitor to get for both to use with a KVM. Any recommendation?

I have an older Samsung 49" ViewFinity S95UA monitor (1800R curvature) that is just perfect as my work setup. Two computers, KVM (I use a single keyboard+mouse), 5120x1440 pixels, 120 Hz refresh rate, HDR support, speakers quite usable for work, absolutely nothing to complain about. It was cheap for this size, too.

For a person who doesn't game, at all, and is just looking at office productivity, what do you recommend? Currently I have 2 27" positioned center and right, a 34" wide screen in portrait on the left, and a 25" in upper right position. I want to try an ultra wide to replace 3 normal panels and keep my portrait display (I split the screen and keep outlook mail and calendar stacked). I keep open 8-10 applications/windows most days, it's all PowerPoint, Word, excel, web browser, and stuff like that. Suggestions for choosing a great wide-screen?

Is there any 5120x2160 40'' IPS monitor with better curvature (all of them I found have 2500R)? I am using 49'' Samsung CRG90 with 1800R and this would be a downgrade. I am actually choosing between Dell U4025QW and Samsung 57'' G9 Neo. And I prefer IPS so it might be my main monitor for next 10 years. I have already burned-in image in my VA Samsung CRG90 after 4 and half year of daily usage.

Could you recommend another 4K Monitor Mac friendly monitor with AMAZING specs that costs less? 😬😅 I need a 32 or 34" or larger 4K monitor for production and video editing on my M2! I just picked up the Alienware 32" 4K UHD 240Hz Curved QD-OLED Gaming Monitor (AW3225QF) on sale $1200 + tax Love the specs but still not sure of it's overkill for what i need it for!? Also would love to spend less😅Wondering which 32"+ 4k monitor is best for my M2 Studio?
