Regarding the color being a little faded, I can't speak for this monitor in particular but for people transitioning from a TN panel to IPS, you will always notice this issue with colors appearing more "white-ish". That is actually how things are supposed to look (many people use IPS for graphic design) but we're used to monitors that crank up the contrast and saturation by default in an attempt to make things look more vibrant than they are. It's like eating a donut with a lot of sugar in it and then tasting an apple and thinking it has no flavor. Something to keep in mind when you change monitors.
@pumpkinthestrange13 жыл бұрын
There's a good chance that she used IPS before, but macs are pretty much always glossy, and glossy displays look more vibrant but always glare like crazy, also you can see your own reflection in it often. Matte screens are more washed out but they don't glare in the sun or light and don't give these mirror-like reflections.

I bought two 27" QHD recently, to try them out. The monitors were identical to Pixio PX275C but branded to a local computer store. I returned them because I found the setup difficult to use. I calibrated them both and noticed that at least in them, the RGB setting of 50 is actually 100 % and increasing it would just cause clipping of the shades near white. So it seems that properly calibrated monitors always have something like 48, 49 or 50 there. Now I also realize that a contrast setting of 50 is basically the pass-through one, i.e. a "do nothing" setting. But for 120 nits one required a brightness setting of 27, another a 32. I would lend this lady a colorimeter if I were there. But also, Mac OS at least used to have a visual method of calibration.

I have the same monitor for daily coding. What can I say is that for space it was wonderful! But I find the default font size for common IDE is too small for the screen so unless I get really near to the monitor I can hardly read the code. The small fix to this was to simply increase the font size of the editor only. So other fonts like menu and file manager will stay small and save a lot of space.

I used to have multiple screens for my work before I move back to my home country because I needed to have several windows opened so that, as you said, I don't have to waste my time switching the window while taking data to a spreadsheet, for example. One thing that ultrawide screen is better than normal screens is that you can have bigger windows, which is really helpful for someone who need remote accesses to her PC and software inside while working from home and need to have as large working space as possible. @@seriouscat2231 I'm pretty happy with my 34''. Unless those longer monitors have a strong curve, you'll have a lot of the content in your peripheral vision, so I only find it worthwhile to spend extra on the monitor in front of me, not on additional screen that I look at less. I'm not sure whether I prefer just adding a secondary monitor or getting a giant one. If you like to use fullscreen apps (like I used to), then the additional monitor would make more sense. I guess if you use keyboard shortcuts to arrange stuff (like I do now), a super long one might make sense, but I'm not sure. I suspect that a super long monitor's aspect ratio wouldn't go well with videos/photos.

@@josealvaradotorre6870, thanks for taking the time to respond. I borrowed a 32" UHD to try out 1) what a 32" UHD would look like, 2) what the resolution would feel on a 40" 5k2, 3) how many pixels there are in a 3840 x 1600, 4) how do 1440 or 1600 vertical pixels feel when scaled to the equivalent of a 34" or 38" ultrawide. Nvidia's drivers for linux let me choose almost any resolution and scale it to almost any size on screen, so I can simulate the actual size and resolution of both if I just ignore that the extreme edges are missing. 2993 x 1440 scaled to 3840 x 1848 (128 %) to simulate a 34" ultrawide, 3044 x 1600 scaled to 3840 x 2019 (126 %) to simulate a 38" one. If you think Ultrawide is good, you should totally try a super ultrawide. Anything that is 40 inches and above, it has all the plus sides of a normal ultrawide, but also comes with the advantage of having a built in KVM switch. Which in turns allows it to split into 2 actual separate monitors with out the eye sore of a bezel in between them, no multiple wires, and takes up less space because it only sits on one mount. What i use and recommend is the Lenovo Legion Y44W-10
@seriouscat22312 жыл бұрын
That Lenovo is 3840 x 1200, as in two 24" 1920 x 1200 displays side by side, in a 32:10 aspect ratio with 92 DPI. What she's got there is 3440 x 1400, a 16:9 27" 2560 x 1440 stretched sideways to nominally 21:9 but actually 43:18 or 21.5:9. Her display is 109 DPI, just like a 49" 5120 x 1440 or a 38" 3840 x 1600 are also. Yours is about 26 cm or over 10 inches wider and I think that was a dealbreaker for her. She would gain little horizontal resolution but lose ⅙ of her vertical resolution.

I am going from a single 24 to a 32 inch 4K monitor. The 32 inch takes up less horizontal space on my desk than two 24 inch monitors side-by-side. And with 4K, I have almost the same horizontal resolution. Important, how FAR is the monitor from your eyes? The WIDER the FLAT monitor, the farther it should be from your eyes. The reason is side distortion. On a WIDE monitor at 24 inches, you will be looking at the side pixels at about 30-45 degrees, vs perpendicular in the center. Two 24s will let you adjust each so that you are looking perpendicular to each screenn, than a single WIDE monitor. The other is, you can select different 24 inch monitors, depending on your needs, so each of the two monitor can specialize. vs. a one size fits all of the single ultrawide monitor.

Get yourself an Xrite i1display pro. It comes with basic software to create an ICC profile and it works with mac. Also like your jiji.

Thank you for the review. I'm so undecided on what to get. Am considering the LG Ultrawide 5k monitor but do like that stand lol. Is it sold separately?

Have you looked at RTings for a color calibration profile :)?

I have once also been on this stage... and you will end with 40 inch wide. LG's 40WP95C or Dell U4021QW

I’ve pondered getting a nice monitor for a while, but I’m at that place where a monitor upgrade would require a GPU upgrade, which would require a CPU/motherboard/RAM upgrade, and I’ll suddenly have spent like 3k 😬 This definitely makes a strong case for an ultra wide though. Until then, I’ll stick with my dirt cheap 1080p monitors and do anything requiring colour accuracy, or involving looking at text for more than 10 seconds on my MacBook Pro’s screen.

I have a MacBook Pro 13in M1. Would a high-end monitor like the one in the video put a strain on my GPU?
@seriouscat22312 жыл бұрын
@@omerats96, by simply existing, no. Your GPU is made to handle it. Only exception is playing games at that resolution. But there's no way to actually damage your GPU with this display.

The problem of ultra wide screen is that if you have to share your desktop on zoom. It will look awkward on non ultra wide screen.
@garyn70672 жыл бұрын
I don't think that an ultrawide monitor would be any different than if you had two monitors, and your desktop is spanning the two monitors. Similar problem if someone sharing has a large HIGH rez, 4K monitor. The people viewing can't see near the rez that the source computer shows. Personally, I am more concerned about MY productivity than sharing the desktop. If sharing the desktop is important in your job, different story. You may have to get a second "standard" format monitor, just for sharing the desktop.

I just really want to know does it look sharp when it connects with MacBook pro m1? Cuz I got a 29 inches ultrawide one, it looks pixilated when connect with my mac m1

the washout/fading/hazyness you noticed on this monitor is caused by the anti-glare coating on the matte screen

I have that one, but it hurts my eyes and it gives me eye strain. I guess because I have to look at different points on the screen

@@shawnmiranda you mean flank the ultrawide with the little ones(27" each)?? As in 27" - ultrawide - 27" or how would you recommend setting that up? That sounds like an interesting idea!

I'm in the same dilemma. I got 2 24" and I am considering going to a 32/34 ultrawide. Programmer as a day job / leisure and games by night

I would have gone with the 34" MSI PS341WU. The 5K 5120x2160 resolution is a nice PPI bump. LG has one with the 5k resolution but I did not think it warranted 500 bucks over the MSI one.

You're right: built-in USB hubs on these new monitors are great!!

so basically 1 hdmi and 1 usb-c connection to the laptop from the monitor?
@MarkCerqueira3 жыл бұрын
@@antonfernando8409 Even less! One cable from the monitor to laptop handles powering the laptop, display connection, and all the peripherals hooked up via USB to the monitor. Some monitors even have Ethernet jacks and that goes over the same single cable. Pretty handy!

@@MarkCerqueira Hi Mark! My peripherals can get power from the monitor's USB but they are not being recognized by the lap top itself - not being able to read usb memory, external hdd, nor to use the brio webcam. Is it because I am connecting monitor through the hdmi cable to the lap top?
