Your cinclusion is based on an unrealistic use case where the gamer will use max setting at all times and RT is of utmost importance. You do always state that settings adjustment will make a large perf difference but state that it woukd be a compromise and sacrifice to not use max
@danielowentech
@danielowentech Жыл бұрын
@@Viewer19 my conclusion is based on the 6950xt being 15% or less faster than the 6800xt, while costing more than 15% more money, which is still true when tested at lower settings and resolutions. When testing the relative performance of GPUs it is important to not be CPU limited, which would be more likely at lower settings, which is why GPU comparisons are usually done at the highest graphics settings. I mentioned in the video that the 4K results don't mean these GPUs can't be used at 4K, it just shows that they won't hit 60fps at max settings in the latest AAA games. Which is useful info for having realistic expectations.

Stellar deal. Reminds me of my recent microcenter purchase. I got a 28inch g7 4k 144hz monitor open box for $270 including a 2 year protection plan. I do have an older GPU but I can't imagine getting a better deal than that even in a few years from now so I had to jump on it. FYI, there is something called a bathtub curve on electronics. Basically, if a product is used for a year or 2 and never had a single issue it is MORE likely that it will last another 10 years than an unopened brand new product. If you know what you're looking for, used or open box can be a far better choice.

When did become common that if your GPU doesn't run everything on Ultra on 4K, the game is an unoptimized shit? I get that people paid pretty money a year ago, 3070 for example, but truth be told, that GPU is not meant for 4K, especially not now in 2023. Here we are all "tech enthusiasts", and we know what to do to get a desired performance, but I hate this new trend, "my 3060ti can't run 120FPS what's wrong", that I see everywhere.

It’s crazy the government has its people so oppressed elsewhere they actually have to factor in the wattage of a component of their PC so the government doesn’t bend them over as hard. I don’t ever concern myself with the wattage of anything in my house, ever. It’s all about conditioning the population though. All three videocards the 6800XT, 6950XT and the RTX 4070 do reasonably well against each other in the mid range. Depending on the use case, games that you actually play, and resolution, I could see an argument for any of the 3 video cards. Honestly, I would pick the 6800XT out of the 3. Contrary to popular believe, nvidia gpu owners do not become professional video editors , 3D graphics designers, and AI engineers overnight. During these tough times, I'm not sure how long I have to hold on to my videocard, so the 16gb vram is going to have to do for an extended period of time. For people who require Cuda and maybe play at 1440p, the 4070 is probably the most attractive card since the GTX 1070. It sucks that's it's about 100 dollars overpriced, but it's the best bone you've got until nvidia throws another one.

Here, in the EU, 6800XT are gone (cheap ones), you can get non XT. 6950XT is 620-650 EUR (from 900), and I just bought one. My usage is simracing titles only. So for iRacing and ACC, 58X3D and 6950XT will have to power my virtual racing for a couple of years.
@syncmonism
@syncmonism Жыл бұрын
I think the 6800 XT is ultimately going to prove to be a better value than the 4070 for most users, as long as the difference in power consumption isn't a significant issue. The Vram advantage is going to end up being more important than any of the advantages which come with Nvidia hardware. The fact that software ray tracing in UE5 runs faster than hardware ray tracing, and works just as well on AMD hardware, is also a big deal, because that's the most likely type of ray tracing to be actually worth using with either GPU at this performance tier anyway. If your electricity costs are really high, then I can see how a 4070 could potentially provide better value over a 3 or 4 year period.

16 gb isnt gonna make your gpu last longer than a 12gb. Youre focusing on the micro too much and not looking at the macro. If we were talking about the 4090 with 12gb then yes, 1000 percent 12gb is not enough for that card. Id go as far and say 16 gb that card would realistically be fine though but when youre spending titan money you should be getting titan memory, a 4090 is a great productivity card. The issue is going to held back over time by it just not being fast enough. By the time 16gb becomes necessary at 1440p, youre gonna need to use medium settings anyway. I got news for you, if youre running medium settings, you wont be using more than 12gb of vram. Cranking settings up to ultra(which you will barely notice over high) at 1440p and turn everything else to medium your vram usage is still gonna be cut down by a LOT. a 4070 will be able to do the same thing mean while, except it actually has a good looking upscaler at 1440p and probably a way better and more improved frame generation. You can say maybe it will last longer natively at 4K. Sure. Youre already using High/Medium at 4K and neither GPU is a good buy for 4K. No card is a good buy for 4K except a 4090. The 4080 and 7900XTX can do it but still need to lower settings in a few games and have no legs at 4K. You can settle for DLSS or hope its a game where FSR looks good at 4K quality in but yeah, natively those are just “ok enough”. Theyre so fast at 1440p that theyre pointless over the cards under them while being so expensive for being as slow as they are for 4K that you shouldve just bought a 4090, the only card that has EVER been good at 4K and i will die on this hill. Every other card till now used at 4K and said to be good for it was really just a glorified high refresh rate 1440p card that people settled on using for 4K. Long story short cause im rambling,16gb on a 6800XT wont save it from being just as obsolete for being slow as 12 on a 4070. Natively theyre both gonna just as obsolete and around the same time and the 16gb of ram wont change that unless you really wanna play with max settings at 1440p at around 25-40 fps which just sounds horrible anyway and you should just use medium settings. Also lets be real if youre buying an 80 class now youre prob not gonna settle for medium settings and will upgrade 3-4 years atleast

Power draw is often talked about, but for a person who's running a gaming PC a few hours a week, it's mostly a nothing burger as long as the GPU has a good cooler (power draw = heat). For folks like that, like me, performance is the key, not power draw. I'm talking about hardware performance, not software trickery. DLSS, FRS, and the like don't impress me. During Black Friday 2022 I bought a 6800XT for my 13700K build -- at that time the 6950XT was around $300 more than the 6800XT. I play FF14 on a 144Hz 4K display with all the settings maxed, and on this system I get 95-110 FPS consistently with no stutters or glitches. Turning down the less critical settings yields 130-140FPS, so the 6800XT would still be the right choice for me even with the narrowed price gap. Had AMD given the 69xx cards a bit of a VRAM bump, say to 20GB, the 6950XT might be the better long-term option, but with the same buffer size as the 6800XT it offers no such advantage.

Thanks to that "new" prices you're starting to find RX 6800 and 6800 XT between 300 and 400 $ or €, new 6800 goes below 500 $/€ also sometimes, not as fast but it can have better FPS/price and good enough energy efficiency. Good enough for some 4k, very quality and FSR 1440p and fast 1080p both of them while getting even more than RTX 4070. Having to choose new, RTX 4070 altought not as good in some ratios is close enough and much more new technology. But better wait for deceiving 4060/ti and rx 7600 to see what performance are going to deliver at half the price (or not). Any 6800 XT used below 400$ is better value than anything is coming in following months for sure.

The rx 6800 is a great card for 2160p for the most part and not often do I drop my resolution to 1440p. Unless FSR quality counts as 1440p. In my eye if it looks 4k it's 4k.

There is a problem with comparing pure price/performance ratios like this. Sure. There less powerful card might give you more frames per dollar, but if those frames are under 60fps at the resolution you want to play at, then it kinda doesn't matter. I think it is worth paying a slight premium to get 60+ fps at 1440p rather than save $100 and only get 48fps at 1440p or have to scale back to 1080p. It basically comes down to paying for a good experience over saving money to suffer through a stuttering mess.

What about 6900XT? I bought one a few months after launch (reference design), and almost immediately cranked the max TDP from 300W to 350W using MorePowerTool, and have it like that ever since. I think it was a good choice, even though it's a hard compromise with raytracing, very decent otherwise. For some reason people in 2023 tend to analyze using either 6800XT or straight up 6950 (which is technically the slightly factory overclocked 6900), but almost never include 6900. @danielowentech Жыл бұрын
My process involves running a set of GPUs through a series of benchmarks and recording the results, and then using that footage to make the comparisons for the next month or so. For the RTX 4070 launch I tested the 4070, 4070 Ti, 3070, 3070 Ti, 3080 12GB, 6800 XT, and 6950 XT. I did not have time to test the 7900 XT. So that head to head is going to happen, but will need to wait for when I retest my higher-tier GPUs. I was going to do that next, but now (according to rumors at least) it is looking like my next batch of testing may need to focus on competitors to the 4060 Ti and 7600. The problem with GPU testing is that the only metric that holds any real comparable value is rasterization. The rest of the metrics are not consistent across game titles. Not every game has DLSS available. Not every title has FSR available. If they did, then the metrics would hold even some value. The more a reviewer focuses on these, the less you can hold their opinion with regard.

Raytracing is the future, I don't care what people say - whether it's hardware raytracing or some kind of Lumen-esque custom realtime global illumination solution, it's just the future, period. It looks awesome, and it's where game rendering is going. I'd like to get an RX 7900XTX or something but I feel like if I'm going to get another AMD GPU that maybe I should wait until the RX 8000 series, because the 7000 series are way too chonky and power hungry IMO. Ray tracing is the future because it is more efficient for developers to implement. That isn't to say that you can't get just as good visuals in raster.. it just take an unnecessary amount of raster to run that level of lighting. I absolutely agree that no matter what you think of it or no matter how it's implemented.. it's the future. Personally, I don't value "better lighting" there are no visuals that increase or decrease immersion for me. It is literally all about the physics, mechanics and gameplay that get me immersed. Games will look much better when RT is matured but in the meantime, is seems pointless to worry about too much.

What I've noticed with all major GPU reviews is that everyone tests with ultra settings, which makes it hard for people to choose a GPU correctly. In reviews you see all these cards on ultra barely getting 30-50fps in some games, but if someone actually wants to play that game, they will have a 144hz/165hz monitor, and optimize the settings to reach at least 120fps to have an actually smooth playable game. So while these reviews can show a numberical difference between video cards, its really hard for the user to extrapolate what performance they will actually get or need.

Hey dude can you share your fan curve for the rx 6950xt and is quite?

Tnx Daniel San! Your comparisons videos are great. I just ordered a 6950xt Merc like you have. I hope it's a good enough upgrade from a 3080 and i already know DLSS will be missed badly. But i hope the raw power of the 6950xt will make up the loss. In Sweden the 6950xt can be had for 630 euro right now on sale, is the us price you are quoting with or without tax? Have a great weekend!

I have a 3080 10gb and don't know which card to upgrade too. Everything seems like a sidegrade or too expensive.

Sidegrade i did too, from 3080 to 6900xt but my watt consumption is half in most of the games i play :D

Save your money! Just wait for next years cards or wait for prices to go down. 3080 is perfect for everything at 1440p. A few games have vram issues at 4k but 3080s performance is still mad.

I went with an 11700k and 6950 xt on a gigabyte z590 UD and its been rock solid with a budget 240mm ID-cooling AIO that i upgraded with 2 noctua fans. Fortnite 1440p ultra with raytracing i get 70-80fps. GPU 85c CPU 70c

don't forget that the 6950xt sucks A LOT more juice, so you might be up for a PSU upgrade not to mention the extra KW's per year you'll be paying on the bills that's the problem with the 6950, it's a bit like your 6800xt without power limits, they've just pushed the same gen harder by juicing it up

Still bitter slightly that they lowered the 6800xt just after I got the 6800, probably would have still got mine due to heat issues in my case, but would have liked the option

hi Daniel, can you make a 6800xt vs 6900xt comparison? in my region 6950xt is not available and the 6900xt is a bit pricey i want to know if its worth getting over the 6800xt , i currently have 3070ti and want to have a gpu that i can set on for a while and 16gb vram is the way to go here so what do you recommend ?

@@danielowentech so your saying its a 5% to 7% performance?, and do you think selling my 3070ti for a 6800XT is worth it or not?
