Do you think the XT4 is definitely an upgrade of the XT3 or would you keep working with it?
@PaulStrople4 жыл бұрын
José Ma. Alonso Cervantes The X-T4 solves the two “issues” that people had with the X-T3. A La IBIS, and longer battery life. Flippy screen is nice, but not enough of a reason to “upgrade” For me, I’d continue to use the X-T3. I have a battery grip, so I never even think about battery life. It lasts forever. Also, I come mostly from a professional cinema background... and I’ve never ever used IBIS. So, not having it is a complete non-issue for me. All that said though, think about what you need (not want... need), and go with whichever of the two cameras meets your needs better. Hope this helps! Cheers!

For your first prime, choose versatility over bokeh, resist the temptation to get a long portrait lens (niche) and pick an everyday lens, you'll get more hours of joy out of it. 16, 23, 35 are all great primes. 27 is a gem for portability.
@cblandblueyonder4 жыл бұрын
problemat1que I think that’s right. I had a Yashica T5 with a 35mm which I got some great shots with and I now have an X100T with a 23mm (35mm equiv). Different people have different preferences but it’s interesting how you can get comfortable with a prime and “get to know it”.

problemat1que thanks for your advice! I was tempted by the 56mm but ive decided to go for either a 23 or a 35mm but im struggling decide between them!
@problemat1que4 жыл бұрын
@@SSC1995 23 is good for everyday, groups, and landscape. 35 is more for small groups of 2 or 3 people, single waist-level portrait in a pinch. I prefer 23 + get a full-fledged portrait lens later. Don't forget cheap 50mm or 85mm options (XF, Viltrox, adapted Canon), since portrait is often a slower-paced genre you may not need native AF performance.
@cblandblueyonder4 жыл бұрын
problemat1que yep, 23mm is a very good all round lens, at least to me. Dedicated portrait or telephoto is of course something else. But you can take a landscape or a portrait and it will make a decent job of either.

I have the original XT-1 and I'm due to update. In serious doubt between X-T3 and X-T4. I understood it's exactly the same sensor etc. but what really bothered me with the XT-1 is battery life, continuously carrying three additional batteries. I read/heard that the X-T3 still uses that same battery, but the X-T4 has more battery capacity. So I'm leaning towards the X-T4, even though it's 500-600 euro more expensive.

I couldn't agree more with your statement starting at 9:40. I too have grown out of love with the X-Trans technology. Back in the early days I LOVED the X-Trans (16 and 24mp versions) and how it rendered images, but now it has become more a frustration in post for general work where I don't need that classic fine artistic look. I stopped buying Fujis after the X-Trans III sensor models and am now looking to sell off all my Fuji X except for the X-Pro 2 and a couple lenses, I just cant let go of that amazing gorgeous camera. Being that I am also an ex Nikon shooter and still have a bunch of F glass, the Z system has my deep interest for many reasons, most notably the constant ergo's across all models, IBIS and a workhorse bayer BSI FF sensor that would give my old Nikkor glass new life. I love Fujifilm and what it gave me but Im at the point where practicality and consistency is important.

When I dove into FUJIFILM system this past year. I almost ended up with the XT3 (LOVE the design and specs!!!)... but there were 3 things that stopped me. 1.) the lack of IBIS (don't want to carry a gimbal everywhere) I know I can record in slow-motion to stabilize the footage, but I can't shoot everything in slow-mo. Besides, I'm coming from a Sony a7s that doesn't have IBIS either, and you won't believe how much DATA I have thrown away do to shaky footage (shaky stills as well!). 2.) That GRIP (or Lack of). Not a comfortable camera to hold when bigger lenses are mounted. I want my grip to do 1 hand shooting and when shooting in selfie mode. 3.) 10 Bit files are too HUGE and heavy to work with the current mac system that I have now. If I got the XT3, I would have had to invest in Storage and Upgraded my mac! So, I ended up getting the X-H1 (for $300 less= got a couple of lenses with that savings). Better built, IBIS, Grip gives confidence I won't drop it when shooting 1 handed, and the small 8 bit files are still good enough for me ;) Thanks guys for sharing such a nice video! I'll be sure to take a look at the video comparing the sensor tech you mentioned at the end! CHEERS!
@barrymayes67123 жыл бұрын
I love your reviews. The great thing about the x-trans sensor is the JPEG files. You can even pull back the highlights. Can’t do this with Nikon or Canon JPEGS. I am a wedding reportage photographer and just use Fuji JPEGs. I no longer spend ages at a computer editing RAW files. I’ve just bought a Leica Q2. The JPEG’s are nowhere near as versatile as x-trans JPEGS. Indeed, the Leica Raw files cannot pull detail out of overexposed highlights. X-trans JPEGs is the way to go to free up precious time. IMO

Great video. I really love your content and the way you give honest and unbiased opinions as working photographers. Having been a professional photographer for over 30 years and moving from Nikon D800’s (full frame) to X-T2 3 years ago and just this month upgraded to X-T3... I know, I didn’t get the X-T4!!! It has been an absolute pleasure to work with. I have never felt that I was missing out and truly do not understand any hate for APSC sensors. In my line of work I haven’t noticed any issues... With one caveat, the out of focus areas generated from the sensor can often create some truly mad looking backgrounds... weird, swirly areas, most noticeable when using longer lenses. For me this is it’s biggest problem. I really notice them, however, in all the 3 years I have shot with Fuji I have never, not once, had a client, designers, creative directors or web builders ever mention it! I love this system and I can’t see a future when I would consider changing.

6:14 OMG! What a weird experience - I’m just sitting here, minding my own business watching the latest Andrew & Denae video, when “OMG IT’S MY CAT!” Showed it to my wife; “Why is our bedroom in this KZbin video????” 🤣 That’s my thread/my video screen grabs you’re scrolling through for the flashing green EVF section - I feel famous! haha. For the record, after talking to Fujifilm, they recommended I return that camera, which I did. The green flickers and stuttering EVF happened all the time on that body. It was really annoying. The vendor was having sourcing issues and couldn’t give me another, so I was X-T3-less for a while, though I eventually decided to give it another shot, and purchased another X-T3 earlier this year. I’ve only had the green flash happen a few times on this one, so there was definitely something up with that particular body that made it occur more frequently. Watching this video now as I haven’t been 100% happy with the X-T3 lately, and considering jumping (back) to a Z6, but can’t decide what to do. I think it’s the lenses I haven’t been happy with more than the camera, but I can’t quite seem to find the setup that works quite right for me. Fuji has amazing/fun primes, but most of my photography lately is travel, and I don’t always have the time to swap lenses around all the time, and I don’t really get along with Fuji’s zooms, apart from the 50-140mm. Nikon has the awesome 300mm PF, which is really great for having a lot of reach while hiking, and something no one else really offers at the moment, and the 24-70mm ‘kit lens’ that was sharper than all of the 16-55mm’s I’ve personally had my hands on, but doesn’t really have anything compelling for hikeable telephoto in between. Oh well, the search for the elusive perfect kit continues! Thanks for the video, as usual. :)

I honestly wish Fuji had third party lens support, or at least developed some interesting competitors to popular lenses like the Sigma f/1.8 zooms. If Fuji ever comes up with a native 18-35 range with f/1.8, I would be totally sold. That and the potential overheating in 4K. I haven't seen any full comprehensive tests so I've no idea if it's a legit issue or not.

Ooh I saw a Land Rover, I like & own a Land Rover. Now to Fuji. So I've owned X-T1, X-T2 X-Pro2, X-E1 & still own the X-E3 & X-H1 & apart from the Pro 2 I've loved them all. Anyway during lockdown I came across a budget priced second hand X-T3. Guess what, I bought it & Guess what I love it, its by far my fave Fuji so far, I'm not bothered about the X-T4 but I will be interested in what the X-H2 has to bring to the table. In the meantime, my X-E3 which I love as a walk about will probably go as the T3 does it all for me. 👍

Hey guys, nice vid! Three quick observations: 1) I think you're giving Fuji too much credit when it comes to firmware updates on the X-T3. To this point, the company appears to have completely abandoned users of their best selling body ever, excluding the X-T3 from the improvements found in the X-Pro3, X-T30 and X-T4 despite almost identical hardware in the latter. I would have actually listed firmware in the negatives. 2) Thank you for bringing up the design of the joystick. I feel the exact same way but rarely see this mentioned. 3) I get where you're coming from with your QC concerns but, looking at your camera bodies, I'm wondering if your experience would improve if you didn't store your cameras in a rock tumbler. If that's a non-starter, maybe at least unplug the tumbler. :-)

Great to hear about that. I'm also a xt20 user here, and would really love to upgrade... But I'm not that sure as I've never tried another camera from fuji. What I care about the most is the quality in the final image and the noise. Do you see an improvement in the images from the xt3? Especially in the low light situation or the shadows of the image, there is where I see my xt20 is not that good
@problemat1que4 жыл бұрын
@@geanny1998 the upgrades are in autofocus and usability. If you shoot high iso or high dynamic range, you will see very little difference in the image. But you will get more keepers out of the autofocus which performs better in the dark.

Hit all the points on the head! A great camera bar none. I did get rid of my x-t3 for a x-t4 for the battery life and IBIS. Still a good value though. I really appreciate your thoughts on x-trans. They didn’t adopt x-trans on the GFX line so I’d wish they drop it for the X line as well. It’s a disadvantage when it comes to raw processing. Artifacts and worms unless you use a few raw processors like C1.

For switcher, you think this is still a good choice? I will only be using it mainly for photography and may do video from time to time.

i was considering this camera since it released, but i can't get over how good a nikon feels in the hands. I picked up an xt-3 demo and it felt like it would fall out of my hands. the grip needs to be deeper.

I was looking at this camera, but the Fuji zooms are just too dang expensive. Like full frame expensive. With all the new Tamron and Sigma glass, it's tough to justify slower APSC glass at the same or higher prices.

Thank you for your videos and all the work you put in them. A question - I own a X-H1 and X-T20 that I love but for event and portrait work the eye auto-focus is not that great. How much better is the eye auto-focus on the X-T3?

There is a reason why Fuji chose APS-C and Medium Format There is a reason and they nailed it :)

The green flicker is the only issue I’ve had with the camera as well. Any ideas of what causes it?
@AndrewGoodCamera4 жыл бұрын
No.. it did seem to improve after the first or second firmware release I noticed. Before that the green flicker would last longer and it actually was more invasive. but the last time I did a serious look to try to figure out the problem was and if others have had it as well I came up without a lot of information. But that's been a while. I should probably do some more digging
