@trailtalkmtb6603
@trailtalkmtb6603 3 жыл бұрын
@@chefgav1 I rate Merida highly in Australia but else where in the world the value isnt as good. It's pretty comparable with polygon. The geo on the siskiu D and T are better than the one twenty and one forty. But merida hardtails and ebikes are killing it at the moment. Having worked at a Merida dealer I can say their warranty isnt anything special.
@trailtalkmtb6603
@trailtalkmtb6603 3 жыл бұрын
@@chefgav1 I'm very aware of the club price. Used to work at 99. However as this is a global buyers guide I cant use individual club or special prices on every bike as that would be very hard to find globally. So it's best to keep it retail or close to retail. The wholesaler in Australia gets a lot better rate than elsewhere on Merida.

I'd just like to say that I greatly appreciate the fact that you obviously know what you are talking about and that your presentation style is to the point and unpretentious. Very nice video! I like how you broke your decisions down. For those of us who are newish it helps alot. There are so many brands these days and add in the decision to buy online for value or pay more for convenience from a local shop. It can get overwhelming. In my area there is just 2 small bike shops one with a very limited selection.

Totally agree the list, I just bought a YT IZZO, it will be delivered in July and it is really the best value for the money. I live in the Santa Cruz area of CA and lots of riders have Santa Cruz bikes but it seems like it’s more of “keeping up with the Jones” and trying to fit in. I bought a Marin hawk hill 2 last year and it has been great, bought a 2018 for only $1500 which was just an incredible deal.

Super cool list. Commencal owner here, glad to hear them getting a positive response. I picked up an XL Clash Origin 2019 for $1999.99, and aside from adding a 210 OneUp dropper post, it's been the perfect bike for me. Trail rides with friends, park days, shuttle laps, it eats it all up, and for right under 2k, the value is mindblowing. Really enjoyed the content!

@Mikem0
@Mikem0 4 жыл бұрын
They can say what they want - I'm on the opposite side of the salary spectrum of a dentist, I saved up and bought an expensive Santa Cruz bike. Their service is top notch, lifetime warranty, free bearings. I run the bike hard and it's performed flawlessly. Meanwhile my "S tier" 2018 YT Capra Comp was a nightmare. The damper on the Lyrik failed within 25 miles, had to send the bike back. Got the bike back 3 weeks later and the dropper post failed shortly after - that was taken care of quicker via getting a new post shipped to me. Later after a bunch of Facebook posts started popping up about the underside of the chainstays cracking on the aluminum Capras - sure enough mine was developing cracks from the holes. I ended up selling it to buy the SC (yes the new owner was made aware of the cracks.) YT's customer service was great and I love their bikes but I got a lemon of a bike.

So I bought a used Santa Cruz blur carbon c for about $1000 less than the retail price and so far it’s been nice the only thing I’ve had to do was switch out the chain I also might have to replace a chain ring as I idiotically tried to fix a small problem and broke a tooth on it but it still has been working fine on that speed

The things that never seem to get calculated in to the value equation, things like warranty, not just in claim but how well they stand behind it and how easy is it to use, also included things like Santa Cruz does lifetime pivot bearings, also support from your local shop, this value will vary depending on how much you can wrench on your own bike and if you already own the needed tools.

Bought a mountain bike back in 2014. I ended up experimenting with several brands including giant and cannondale and ended up going with the cannondale trigger since it felt the best out of the ones i’ve tried. Still riding the bike to this day. Shame the company is so low on the tier list. I’d think otherwise from my experience with them. That being said, i have no idea how mtb companies are operating today. I’ve been out of the loop for awhile now when it comes to mtb culture.

I prefer the Rift Zone 3 but for a first bike don't be too concern as long as you have good tyres, brakes and your suspension is setup properly you wont notice many of the creature comforts more expensive bikes offer :)

Hi David, It's been tough to get a hold of one! I might just end up selling my alpine trail and get one. I've had a brief ride and it's definitely very capable given its travel, which is why I can see it replacing my alpine trail as a true all rounder.

Hey mate, I am in the market for a mid range trail/ all mountain bike in Oz. YOu've mentioned YT as one of the best value bike in your video.....the cheapest dual suspension is AUD$4,800- ?? It is certainly in the expensive side of the spectrum. What bike do you recommend??

Great video. One parameter that is missing in the comparisons, however, is frame quality. Not something that the manufacturer publishes however, so no dig on you, TTMTB :-) And by frame quality I mean voids in the carbon, strength of welds, frame failure rates, QC information, BB shell and head tube alignment tolerances, etc. Also you forgot Surly :-)

Can you test different tyres like xc/trail vs enduro/dh for lap times on a local loop and opinion of grip, rolling resistance, etc. I just put a rekon on the rear and could not believe how fast my bike is now compared to the rear dhr2! You could do a vid about must own tools for upcoming mtb enthusiasts You could do a vid about the benefits of full sus compared to hard tail for beginners

Not long ago Giant, Merida & Canyon have near identical price to specs ratio, but recently Giant has really upped the price on their bikes while Canyon & Merida basically stayed the same.
@Version-ru1mj
@Version-ru1mj 2 жыл бұрын
Recently, Giant is very bad for value/quality ratio in Europe. Only a basic Giant Talon 4 with xct forks, mechanical breaks and a tourney derailluer is 700 euros. While a Merida big nine 60 which has an altus 9x, rock shox coil spring, better drivetrain, hub, bottom bracket, hydraulic breaks(shimano), chain only costs 730 euros. I must add that the Giant Talon 4 which costs 700 euros is the new 2022 version and the Merida big nine 60 is the 2021 version. Giant talon 4 2022 still remained with basic components although they changed from shimano to microshift which is not a huge deal to make the 2021 version which had a cost of 470 euro and make it 700. Crazy.
