Even though I love them, watches are the worst money investment ever, specially the ones that devalue after you purchase them. Watches are not like cell phones or TV's that can improve your day to day life, watches are all about vanity and material possession at its finest. So IMHO any good quality watch over $200 is just money wasted and luxury possession; there's no "good money for value" when it comes to those watches. But that being said there's no other accessory that gives me the confidence and happiness that a watch does.

It’s hard to beat the Ball Trainmaster Cannonball for value for an introductory luxury watch. There are quite a few costing several thousand more than this watch that do not have the build quality, complications and ruggedness of this particular Ball watch brand.

Wow man- congrats! One of the best watch suggestions I've ever seen :) Wish Glycine and Certina were also there, though- which of their models would you choose?
@TopTierTicker Жыл бұрын
Ahhh man, I wish I included Glycine now, I love their watches. Glycine is super tough, because they have some seriously good value pieces. If you could find an automatic combat sub for a decent price I'd probably say that. Although the Airman is just so iconic it's tough not to include that too. I'm not too clued up on Certina, it's one of the only brands I don't really follow. What's your suggestion? I appreciate the kind words man, I'm glad you enjoyed my video :)
@emperor4677 Жыл бұрын
@@TopTierTicker Well that might be long xD Certina is probably not very well known in America, as it's concentrated primary here in Eastern Europe and some other countries, which are neither 1st, nor 3rd world(I think many of South American ones + Mexico). But it has much better heritage than Tissot or even Hamilton as their development of DS shock system and being among the first in dive watch frontier. Also they have one of the best bracelets for the money, some with quick diver adjustment and also a cool turtle logo on the back :) Buying Hamilton Khaki or Certina here feels more like buying an Oris or even Longines. So personally for me it's probably the very best value brand occupying the price bracket of Tissot. As I don't like the PRX(probably because I don't like vintage designs) I think that Tissot is not very high quality or prestige so as you mentioned their lower end is incredible value, but the more expensive stuff for me is not that great. We have the Le Locle, which many consider best value 500$ watch, but I've seen it in person and their is no X factor- just specs... the same for Visodate, as for the Gentlemen although it uses the silicon movement, for me it also lacks X factor, pretty boring watch and a little expensive- newer models with open hearth actually look good, but become too expensive. I really like their Seastar line... they have the X factor, great finishing and great price, but are too big. Some of the cheaper good value watched include the quartz XL line(a little big and too simplistic) and PR100(for the cheapest watch, which looks good for many occasions and will last a lifetime). Also in the past they had Tissot Automatics 3 with ETA 2836 and metal bracelet for very little money. They are the primary competitor of Certina. And as of Certina they start with a little higher price tag, and their lower end is plain and lacks X factor, but their mid and high end is superb. They have more modern, sporty designs, also looking great for office(making them very popular, just like to some extend Tag Heuer, but much better value). They had great models in the past, but discontinued them like Certina DS-1(reviewed by Geckota) or Certina DS-4(suggested by The Time Teller). In their current line I think the best ones are from the DS Action Diver series- they have 44mm and newer 38mm models, some of which in Titanium(as reviewed by Brave Beaters! Most are automatic, some are quartz(I have an older quartz model with ceramic bezel insert, which got for a bargain). This series had many iterations and it's here to stay, so I would say it's their most iconic. In the past they also had great quartz chronographs with 10+ jewels inside them(Certina DS-2 chronograph). For best value I would definitely say DS First Ceramic :) Also to note another great swiss brand, perhaps not very popular in US- Candino. They save money from marketing, and perhaps a minus is that their designs look either like fashion ones or too classic. But they make some astounding deals like 120$ brand new, swiss made, sapphire, classic watch, with leather strap better than Tissot ones, textured dial with no dust(great QA) and luxury packaging: Candino Timeless C4487

@@emperor4677 Interesting, thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. Interesting what you say about the watches lacking X factor, I absolutely agree. Some of the 'best value' pieces often lack any personality. I agree with the visodate too, not a watch for me. I'll definitely be looking into Certina a bit more, I'll try and get one in for review soon and do a deep dive into the brand for a video, and hopefully share the knowledge on here with other enthusiasts. I'll take a look at Candino now. Not a brand I've heard of but, they sound interesting. :)

Don't have anything particularly fancy but have got a number of watches. Had a Nite with tritium tubes. Had to get it serviced several times. Couldn't deal with humidity. When a watch repairer opened back was surprised to see it was rusting inside. Replaced rubber bracelet several times within couple years. They use a very basic Thai manufactured i.e. cheap as chips movement. Plus the thing they sold it on - the illumination- faded within 5 yrs. Always a bit wary of smaller trendy brands. That was a fail. Got several Seikos that have just had serviced including a green dial Sarb Alpinist. Still looks amazing several years on. Have a cheapish Swatch that gave up the ghost. A Timex whose back keeps falling off despite returning it to the dealer twice. Had a Seiko diver for over 20 years which worked fine apart from scratched glass. Gave it away. Now run a basic Casio G Shock which is hellish to change time zones. Unnecessarily so. Again had to take to dealer to reset to country of origin time zone. Would love an Omega Speedmaster and could get one tomorrow. Problem I see is that all watches have failings and if one wants a regular reliable watch that keeps time, doesn't need winding and takes a beating then the G Shock is hard to beat. Much as I love the fancier brands and ogle them.

I picked up one of those 90s Oris pointer dates last month for about £850, totally agree that the older models offer the best value. The same beautiful design but the addition of a guilloche texture dial, applied indices and a two tone case and bracelet, for almost half the price of the current models!

Exactly mate! You can even find them cheaper if you go with a smaller size (34mm), probably too small for most but I like the petite look. Enjoy your pointer date Ross, you have a great watch there my friend 🙏

@TopTierTicker hi sorry to come back again. I've just had a very quick look at the site, how come the watches are so cheap? Aren't they genuine?
@TopTierTicker Жыл бұрын
Chrono24 is the best marketplace for watches. It features dealers and private sellers from all over the world. Chrono24 charges less fees than places like ebay so sellers can sell watches for cheaper. And there's also more competition so prices tend to be less. Just like anywhere, there will be fakes and frankenwatches. That's why you have to make sure that the seller has lots of positive feedback, so you know they are trusted. Always do your due diligence when purchasing an expensive watch. Inspect every photo, double check all the details. Ask questions if needs be. But yes, chrono24 is a great place to buy watches. I've bought a few off the website myself

I don't think you can go wrong with a 1980's Rolex Air-King-Date. You can pick them up for less than £3k. An extra £400 or so will get you a full service by a Rolex authorised watchmaker and you'll be good for the next fifteen years. Maybe too small for some, but I never liked big watches myself. A bonus is that this model has never been copied/faked, so there's never any doubt about originality. It wears nicely too, with its small(ish) size and plastic crystal's light weight.

I actually love the 34mm air kings, and that's definitely a sweet spot in the rolex market, especially the 14000 models. But because of their size, they aren't universally the best value
