In this winter vanlife travel vlog we take our tiny T4 campervan to the Croatian coast, to the region of Istria. We visit the world's smallest Town, Hum, and the abandoned village of Kotli, before heading to Pula - a city on the coast famous for it's ancient ruins. After exploring the Pula Arena (a 2000 year old Roman amphitheater), we went in search of what turned out to be one of the best free park up spots yet, located right next to the water. Here, we share our favourite new gadget (Samsung The Freestyle) which makes living full time in our self-built campervan so much more fun!
We end our time at the gorgeous city of Rovinj, where we explored the beautiful old town and ended our day with the best place to watch sunset in the city!

If you are on your way to Dubrovnik (which I suppose you are), but maybe still near Istria, it would be great if you spared some time and visited some of the islands. Would recommend island Cres, there is a nice town of Cres, then there is a little place Lubenice, and few hidden gems, like place near town Cres - Valun. If you are past that point, island Hvar would be next on the list. Brac and Vis are also good, but Hvar with old town is something special. Island Pag is something special, with barren rocky surface without a tree to see, looks like surface of the moon. Old town Pag is also beatuful, and island is famous for cheese and lamb. North of island Pag (north of Senj) there is a town called Otočac which I mention here just as orientation point to find pizza place in village Sinac, called "Ruspante". I promise you that trip from Rovinj to pizzeria Ruspante near Otočac is inself worth the trip. Oh yes, If you are by any chance still in Istria, please visit Motovun and old town Labin (there is also very good pizza place there, called Rumore). If you want to go all in, old town Primosten is very nice and interesting (if you find local vinery there that fills red vine in plastic Coca cola bottles for locals, definitely buy some), then there is old town Trogir (crazy old and beautiful). I assume you will visit Split. Next to Split is small town Solin, I beg you to eat at place called "Street Food 21210" - very affordable and food is next level.

Ohhh, Croatia has the BEST light of any place I've been in the world. Every sunset is mesmerizing, and the golden hour actually makes everything sparkle like it's made of gold. I wasn't able to capture it in most of my photos, but I'm so terribly glad you did! It brings me back to watching the sunset in Zadar by the Greeting to the Sun ❤️❤️❤️

Hiya just watched your Istria vid I was in Pula & Hum I think a couple of years ago I have also bean to Zadar I had a 2 week tour of the Balkans booked but it was just as Covid struck so my flights got cancelled I was going to fly to Zadar and fly back from Sofia might do it next year I don't have the holidays left at work for a 2 weeker this year oh and just flew back from Bratislava this morning which is a small but cool city keep looking your dreams

My parents married In Pula in 1946, with my father’s fellow army officers holding an archway of swords in front of the big church arch door, (my Mother was working in Trieste and father posted in army there)when we went on holiday on early 80’s when Yugoslavia was still communist the (catholic) church was practically falling down, ‘wonder of it is still there. There was another church just down the slope on the main little street. The passage way down to the sea from Rovinj old town is called the Passage of the Holy Cross as that's where the casket with the remains of St Eufemia washed up several centuries ago. The casket is in the church you got locked out of, the skeleton is missing its left hand as that's in a church in Venice! Someone thought it a good idea to take it there?! The Venetian Republic controlled Istria for 3 centuries and most of Venice is built from Istrian stone. And in summer that area where you sat is packed with young people swimming and sunbathing and quite a few alcoholic beverages are consumed!

Hauser, the famous Cellist does concerts in the Pula amphitheatre. Also, on the Hauser KZbin or the 2 CELLOS channels, you can watch those concerts. At night, all lit up & full of people - the amphitheatre is magical.
