Ash I understand what you mean and one piece of advice to deal with that is not to be too slow when you are on the roundabout. Driving too slowly could invite vehicles behind to get beside you, be sure to check the mirrors exiting and perhaps a quick shoulder check will help reassure you.

I passed my test today. Thank you for your videos. It would be beneficial for applicants like me for a video with different roundabouts, like a roundabout with left lane only to go left and right lane to go straight and right. On my last test I exited into right lane on going straight, when I was supposed to take left lane on exiting. I think there will a lot out there like me who don’t know that. Thank you once again for all good videos.

I'm a Canadian who has done 3 extensive driving trips through the UK. These videos are invaluable for those of us who have a more limited exposure to roundabouts. I watched a number of these before taking delivery of my hire car and was very happy that I did. ( I owned standard transmission cars for the last 50 years but always hire an automatic transmission car for UK driving and was glad that I did. ) One thing that I learned was to never enter a roundabout on the outside lane when there was a car approaching even if it was on the inside lane because you just know that the other car has to exit and you need to just stay out of the way. One thing that could use some more explanation is that at 2:36 the driver exits the roundabout directly from the inside lane potentially cutting off any vehicle that may have been in the outside lane. I assume that is normal. I would have expected him to have changed lanes first ( even though the distance from entering to exiting was short ). Presumably if there was a vehicle to your left, you would have yielded the right of way ?
@DaneTygheletsdrive4 жыл бұрын
What I did at 2.36 is completely normal, I am basically changing lanes and exiting the roundabout at the same time, the left lane in this case is for turning left but I checked my mirrors to ensure that it was safe.

I got my Driving License in Ireland but learned to drive in the UK, The Round about rules in Ireland are inconsistent and actually increase your risk of an accident. Let me explain. In the UK you only enter the left lane if you are taking the next exit. So for first exit you take left lane for second you take right but indicate and move to left immediately after first turn. for Third you stay in right lane until immediately after second indicate and move to left and if you want to double back you stay in right lane then indicate and move to left lane after third exit. Really easy and consistent. on Roundabouts with multiple lanes its really easy too. on a 4 lane roundabout counting from left to right First exit Lane 1. Second exit Lane 2 then move to lane 1 after first exit. for 3rd exit lane 3 moving to lane 2 after first exit and lane 1 after second exit easy consistent everyone doing the same thing no risk of an accident. I live in a border town and it is frightening when both rules are applied, I noted in our video you crossed lane 1 and just about made your exit, if someone was in lane 1, taking their second exit, when you did that move there would have been an accident, watch again see for your self. One last frightening thing about Irish roundabouts are road signs blocking your view to your right approaching roundabouts, its everywhere so I not picking on one specific town but in Dundalk it is bad, I am actually really surprised there are not more accidents on roundabouts, as the rules are different for each derestriction. turn 1 and 2 are exactly the same turn 3 different that is what caused accidents

PASSED, FIRST TRY. A huge thank you to Dane Tyghe (Let’s Drive) for his amazing driving training preparation videos, which were instrumental in helping me pass my driving test this morning! I also want to acknowledge the invaluable resources from ADM Driving School that greatly aided my preparation. Special thanks to my instructors, Anton and Gabby, who took my driving skills to the next level. After my first instructor (with whom I did 12 lessons) refused to hire me his car, I was fortunate to connect with Anton and Gabby, who truly made a difference. Grateful as well to FlexiDrive, which enabled me to hire Gabby’s car just a day before the test. For learners: stay confident and don’t let fear take over-you’ve got this! My test went well overall, though I made a few mistakes in Observation Moving Off and Reverse Around the Corner (Competency and Observation). I was careful not to touch the kerb while reversing, and even adjusted to improve. Always observe carefully, maintain proper positioning, and keep a steady speed. Lastly, I prayed for God’s guidance before starting, and it brought me peace. Good luck to everyone preparing-you can do it! 🚗✨😂

12 O'Clock to approach the roundabout in good timing. Stop look around and behind. Signal and go to the lane you want to go on? When leaving the left or right lane? In the right way and the Mini Roundabout. Keep to the right when turning at it. But to be careful and watch out for anyone coming. Especially the people and cyclists all the time to. The Blind Roundabout which is more harder then the other ones. But to be more careful and SPOT. To go by how to approach and leave it. In the correct way. So that'll be good.

Regarding the 12 o clock rule would you take the inside lane on every roundabout if 2nd exit is past 12
@waqasahmed-si6kr7 жыл бұрын
If a car is already on the roundabout and you know that there is suitable gap as the roundabout is big. Still should we be processing despite the fact the other car is on your right side?
@DaneTygheletsdrive6 жыл бұрын
Yes it should be fine providing you move off quickly enough and don't obstruct the other vehicle
@cobaltutopia6 жыл бұрын
When you're coming up to the roundabout and you're in 2nd gear and you're not sure if you're going to stop and you're still slowing down do you put your clutch in, brake and go into first ready to move off, or do you go into first and engage it straight away anticipating you'll come to a stop? I've been taught cruising is dangerous as there's no engine breaking but if you're coming to a stop and moving slowly is it okay to coast and change into first to anticipate a stop? Then if you haven't stop I guess you apply more revs and try to get it into second before you have to steer round the roundabout . Sorry for the essay it's just some struggles I've been having!
@DaneTygheletsdrive6 жыл бұрын
There's absolutely nothing wrong with rolling into first gear in the situation you described, sometimes you its the best option as it gives you time to assess and decide. Coasting is not a problem if you are in first gear or reverse gear.
@myapinion75325 жыл бұрын
I'm being taught to go straight from 4th to 2nd gear coming up to a roundabout or junction, rather than coming 'down the gears'. I keep getting into a pickle going straight across 4th to second, get totally stuck sometimes, where the car comes to a halt, as obviously not in any gear. Happened one day actually on a roundabout as l ran out of momentum trying to get the chuffing thing into 2nd. It just wouldn't go.

are you able to enter the roundabout if you want to enter the outside lane but somebody is on the inside lane?
@mariiaandriiash80702 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the tips👍 In your video, I see many cars driving on the white circle in the middle of the small roundabout. I wonder if you get grades in case you cross that white circle?
@DaneTygheletsdrive2 жыл бұрын
It's fine to drive over the white thing if you've no other options.

2nd time I failed 4 grade 2 for roundabout as taking time to enter roundabout last time 3rd grade as so quick to enter roundabout. Examiner should think slower is not issue as 2 years N permits and driver can develop skill over the perio of time . All Lerner not Irish native and lot of Lerner driver do not have any one to sit as copassenger

Hey Dane, Love this video . Watched it lots making notes. It really helps. QUESTION: At 3.28 you take a roundabout that has an exception to the 12 o'clock rule wherein you go straight through but use right hand lane, you don't seem to indicate on approach and on the roundabout, until you need to indicate left. Probably my ignorance as a learner showing here: Are we meant to indicate on approach? THANK YOU SO MUCH :D

If I'm going straight I don't indicate on the approach

I always got told braking and changing gear at the same time was a big no-no ( 'dragging' the clutch)
@DaneTygheletsdrive5 жыл бұрын
Whoever told me you that either hasn't a clue about driving, was playing a joke on you or maybe, like the other comment suggests, was referring to some form of "advanced driving". If you are driving down a steep hill and you need to change down gears, then you must brake as you are going down the gears. If you don't, due to some ridiculous conspiracy theories, you could end up in hospital.
@johno45215 жыл бұрын
@@DaneTygheletsdrive Or be in the correct gear before the hill... I am not referring to the practice of 'heeling and toeing' here, which is a technique used in racing or track and has no place on the public road. By not 'dragging the clutch' I mean matching the engine speed to the lower gear by dabbing the accelerator mid-downchange, for which you must momentarily take your foot off the brake.
@DaneTygheletsdrive5 жыл бұрын
Yes possibly but in order to do that you'll have to use the clutch and brake together in order to get down the gears. Unless you are contemplating driving around in 2nd gear everywhere. You seem very confused about how to drive properly and safely on the approach to a junction, I would suggest you get professional driving lessons - it sounds like you really need them
@johno45215 жыл бұрын
@@DaneTygheletsdrive If you change into the correct gear for the beginning of the hill (or any hazard) why would you NEED to be on the brake at the same time??! Its about reading the road ahead, why be changing gear half way down the hill?

Hi Dane! Is it important to always stop at the line with the yield sign near the roundabouts? I tend to stop at the line even when it's empty, is that a bad practice? Thanks!
@DaneTygheletsdrive Жыл бұрын
That is very bad practice, roundabouts are designed to keep traffic moving so if its safe just keep going.

Thank you very much sir. Very helpful video and you explain very nicely. Thanks. Sir one of my question. If I missed and road speed sign then could I follow examiner’s navigator speed limit that shows ? Or shall I drive minimum like 20 mph? If I confused it’s 20 or 30 mph speed limit zone ? Plz sir reply me. I’m very confused.

Hi Dane, I have a question about mini roundabouts. I drive through one similar to the one here at 6 minutes 30 seconds in. So there’s 3 exits. If I’m approaching, and the traffic on my right is at a standstill, giving way to traffic on their right (on my left) and that traffic to my left keeps coming, is it ok to slowly move in as the traffic to my left should be yielding to me? Hope I’ve gotten that visual across

Do you have any videos on going down through the gears when approaching a roundabout? I’m always either chugging or slow down way too soon..

If it touched it then it shouldn’t be. If your wheel actually fully got onto the kerb then yes .

There is no automatic fail from hitting the kerb, it depends on how you hit it.

Hi Dane. At 6:43 a black car is approaching on the right, but he’s turning left. Seeing as he was turning left, and the blue car behind him wouldn’t be able to enter the roundabout until the black car exits left, could you have, because you would have had time. Or were you just being extra cautious? I hope that makes sense. Thanks.

I could have went yes but it was 50 50 and I suppose I was just conscious that they could pick up speed on the downhill.

Not really sure I understand what you are asking but I'll try. You should stop and apply the handbrake if you think that someone else (person walking) is close by but if it is cars you should be okay as long as you see each other. It depends on the situation as every time is different.

@DaneTygheletsdrive2 жыл бұрын
If I signal right then the 2nd exit is right, if the 2nd exit is straight then no signal on the approach. You need to study the 12 o clock rule because it appears that you don't understand it, it's clearly explained in the video.

Hi Dane, thanks for your video's. When driving an automatic, is neutral and hand break on always best practice at traffic lights and in stopped traffic? Thank you 🙏
@DaneTygheletsdrive3 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. For an automatic handbrake first then wait in drive usually but you could wait in neutral if stopping a long time or if you're further back in the queue.

We should demond government make rule for straight 2nd exit always outer lane like 1st exit . 1,3,4 no issue as always same rule with 12 clock rule only rule changes for 2nd exit and some time road marking cover with front vehicle, if government always apply default rule for 2nd straight exit then more safer , Safety should more preference than slowness of traffic

If your going straight on a roundabout, you dont have to indicate do you? And before entering a roundabout coming up towards the 2 lanes; should you indicate what lane your going into? If going straight
@DaneTygheletsdrive4 жыл бұрын
If going straight you must indicate on the exit - after you pass the first exit. Should be no need to indicate what lane you are going to be in beforehand - could be misleading.
